People people people, we have too many months between now and the first time we get to see some gameplay to be doing this much speculation. I realize everyone has a wish list and we all want to see some better stuff from FFXIV, but let's not fight over something that may not even be true. It's just going to lead to someone 9 months from now saying "I told you so".

Every face in that picture is based on an FFXI model, in fact the whole reason they stuck with the FFXI races was for familiarity, and using faces based off the original models goes along with that. Her ears and face *do* look just like every other elf chick. All elvaan have "hume-like" faces because it's not the face that makes them unique, it's the ears, hair and body type.

The only exception is the kid with horns.

This is the closest match I could find, and the ears still look nothing like each other.

But remember you are comparing 2 different forms to one another. The first is a digital representation of the character and the second is probably a hand drawn representation. The artist has put lighting effects into play with the ears. The translucency of the ears and a bit of their shape is the only difference I can see. Both have similar hairstyles and facial structures but the artists rendition has a high necked clothing on so we can't really compare neck length between the two. (Let's face it female Elvaan have Dhamel necks!)

EDIT: So I went to the OP and examined the complete artist's rendition. Here is a link to it:

Now, I'd like to point out 2 things. First take a good look of the "big eared girl" that Dak was pointing out. Note the placement of the ears on her head. Now look to the far right of the picture and note the very Elvaan looking gentleman sitting there. Note that his ears seem to be flatter to his head and angled back. Compare the girl and that man now. They seem to be 2 different races. Also if you look to the far left, you'll see what seems to be a child with ears that stick out. The child doesn't seem to be a Taru type race either since he seems too large, ears too small, and neck too long. But as I said before, the artist is drawing his perspective and therefore it could just be that his eye interprets things differently.

Are you blind? They're pretty damned similar, and as BBQ said 1 is a 3D CGI rendition and the other is what looks like a water painting. Despite that however they are still very similar.

Look at the other Elvaans in the mural. Compared to Elvaans within the mural, and to those existing outside, they do not look anything alike.

Artist have a way of hiding things in plain site. And us bickering over these pictures like blurred bigfoot pics is what they want.

I agree. I think the supposed Elvaan female in questioning is in fact.. another race! Yes.. it's less detailed. For what reason? To create speculation and also for skeptics to say otherwise.

Now.. some of you may be saying "Well Pwn.. there's obvious races in the pic with the same minor painted detail so the artist hiding something is totally irrelevant.. and that that Elvaan female just matches most of all the background races."

but that's what they want you to think.. I rest my case!

SE said there would be differences between them (FFXI vs XIV), but I honestly think we're splitting hairs here.

Well for adding new races, I don't think really they would. It would be cool for them to but when they want races to be specific to an area that usually takes them off the player character possiblity. For instance even though you can go to Kazham the Mithra home land not one male in sight. So I hope they add the opposite sexs (if galkas have their tails in the front now). What would also be cool if you could get mix breeds as a race who have less pluses but more racial gear options.

Kazham is not the Mithran homeland -.- do people not read story?

Mithran homeland is further South then the Island Kazham is on.

When (if?) they make a new expansion, they might add the far south area that will contain the Mithran homeland, and I am sure there you will see plenty of (or atleast a hand full) of male Mithra.


If you look at just the pic, and nothing else, the 2 other Elvaan in the pic, do not match the "Elvaan" in question, they look similar but the ears are different (even with the lighting) but its not a Viera nether

Viera? no she is not -.- Evaan? not sure......

We have her on the left, a Mithra in the middle and the Evaan on the right, and a pic of a Viera below.

I'd still like to think its a Viera though. The ears match more of a Viera, than a Mithra, sure they aren't in the same place, but they are changing the galka as well. (Tailess, and better porpotioned)

Those are distinctly cat ears. The shape and length are both all wrong for rabbit ears.

I'll say it again; the races in FF XIV will resemble the ones in XI but will have key differences in their appearance & histories. They'll all probably have different names too.

I really can't see them doing anything to Hume but so far here's what we have;

Galka: Longer, more realistic legs and no tail

Taru: Going by the artwork, it seems they won't have the darkened noses anymore. They're slimmer too

Elvaan: The ears do look a little different and I don't think they're quit as tanned. They look more LotR-ish

Mithra: It looks like they no longer have the "face paint" or w/e those streaks were, and again no darkened noses.


Also, is it my imagination, or is the 1 mithra in the middle sitting at the table look masculine ? Two of my friends argued with me until they were blue in the face but to me it looks like that very well could be a man. The face & hair just don't look as feminine as the other two. If not for the stupid plant obstructing the view of the chest, we could ascertain right away. (the shoulders seem broader too but that could just be the angle)

Can we just blame genetics? Jesus. She's just like the pic of the elvaan that was posted some posts ago, but the ears are thinner is all.

About the ear position... my dog's ears sometimes point up, sometimes point straight out, he can move his ears! Wish I could do that to impress all the ladies. Or gross them out.

I see Elvaan and I see Mithra in that pic. No Viera to be found.
