well they just said the beta will be longer, so based on that, I think the beta will start sooner this year, and will continue through FFXIII's release window, and then finally end up with a release sometime next summer.

anyways me and others were discussing about having 1 nation instead of 3. People agree this would offer MORE missions/quests for all players without needing to change nations. This would also bring the community together instead o having something like Conquest conflicting with people's benefits (paying to set your homepoint or paying extra to outpost warp because your nation doesn't control that zone? Ridiculous!) competition should remain isolated from the PVE experience and not effect or penalize players while rewarding others.

      Q4 makes the most sense.

XIII is out in Q2, so if they start the beta then and end no later than the beginning of Q4 that leaves with 2~2.5 months to rev up development and shipping to retailers just in time for the holidays.

In fact, I would launch it maybe the week after FFXI's Christmas event starts. Let people get into the holiday spirit and then move on to the real present

I wouldn't pay for 2 copies of it either, so it would bring unhappyness to our household. Even if they allowed multiple characters (do beta's normally? I've never beta'd a MMO) neither of us would want to wait while the other got to play. lol

Pre-order it twice at Gamestop or similar place, use the beta keys and then cancel your pre-orders and get your money back.

Also, for a normal MMO beta you can make multiple characters, but given that in FFXI you actually have to pay to have additional characters if XIV is made to work similarly then you may only get to make one character per account.

You could share a character, as said earlier, for instance some RPGs my husband and I take turns while discussing strategy and how to do stuff, and it is actually quite fun and brings us closer together. There are a few games where we do that with when both of us want to play, and it really is very fun when you are both engaged and focussed on the same thing, then your character would become sort of an amalgamation of who the two of you are together then. (I know, it sounds sappy but it is really great).

              hey that brings up a scary story. someone from Texas I used to be friends on FFXI, beat their child because they took over their character while they were gone, but that wasn't the reason they were hit, it's because they accidentally got aggroed by an IT mob and lost XP. -_-;

but on the brighter side of the news, I wonder if FFXIV will have an ongoing thing like Campaign, except anyone from any level (well at least 10 and up) can participate in? that would be neat and would add a extra way to get XP/points. but this time they should allow skilling up in those events as well.

                *cough* anyway.....

yeah sharing a character would work, I honestly hope to get into beta myself, I am a sucker for that kind of thing, looking for bugs and stuff, and since I only got into FFXI's beta in the last month -.- I would really like to get into this one and go on a bug hunt with companions ^.^

<total off topic response so don't read it if its going to bother you>

I had this couple in my ls that I tried to turn into Child Services. First they were in the ls for a while and not on vent. We knew they had kids because they'd talk about them. It would be 10pm their time and they'd say "God damn it brb, gotta feed the f**king brats" So I'm thinking TEN PM AT NIGHT!? And one of their kids was between 1 and 2 and I believe the eldest was 7. There was a middle kid in there so they had 3. So I had kind of an attitude towards them just from those type of comments in ls chat. Some people just shrugged it off and didn't think it was anything big but that stuff rubs me the wrong way. You have to give respect if you want to receive it and they didn't respect their kids and bitched that they were brats all the time. (Fyi, get off the god damn game and pay some attention to them!) Then the couple came on vent........

They had their mics set up to pick up their voices so whenever there were noises in the background (i.e. kids) you could hear them. The pleading "Mommy I'm hungry..." had me in tears and I had to log off vent. You could hear them beating their kids because the kids wanted attention and interrupted their gaming time. Screaming...my god the screaming that they did to those kids just because the kids acted like....well.....KIDS! We begged them to go to the push to talk setup so we didn't hear all that shit but they didn't or couldn't or whatever. If they went afk, their kids would pick up the mic and scream into it with the mic nearly in their mouths. Anyone that uses vent understands how irritating it is when someone has the mic so close to their mouth and they yells or something. Once they said afk getting food for the kids and they were gone for an hour. We could hear all the background noise and could hear the kids home. Later we found out that they went out and ate and then brought the kids some food home......they left a SEVEN YEAR OLD CHILD in charge of 2 younger kids.

I tried my hardest to gather info on them. We knew what state they lived in and a general area but thats about it. I contacted Social Services in a couple of cities in that area but I just didn't have the information to get help to those kids. I still see the husband in game but not the wife anymore. I once had a long talk with her privately on vent and found out some interesting details about their relationship. I could tell she was not happy in her marriage and had thought about leaving. She claimed that he abused them and was using drugs. I damn near got her phone number but she decided not to in the end.

                  </end of off topic response>

I know a group of people that were on my server for FFXI have decided to start up a forum and invite old FFXI friends to join it. They are going to post all the info the comes up about the game, especially ways to get in the beta. Then they all want to static with one another in beta and in the final release. It's really a great idea. We used to have sub sections for private forums in the Server section. Maybe if you guys bug Ping he could set something up like that so you all could make a sub forum for a DIV group. I haven't heard a peep out of him about making a FFXIV site so this might be an alternate option.

If the beta did come packaged that way that's probably how we'd end up doing it. I'd just have to tackle him if he played too long - and then work reeeaaaly hard to remember to let him have a turn I just like running around beside him in a new area, ya know?

Why haven't they mandated licenses for parents yet? I swear you shouldn't be allowed to have kids unless you can prove you are fit to take care of them. I sincerely hope the neighboors of those negligent monsters do something for those children before they grow up emotionally unstable (may already be too late)

oh wow that is a tough story...

but yea, that would be really kewl, even if I might not get in the beta, it would be great to hear from these beta groups the
details of the gameplay and everything, even though it would technically be NDA, if it's a private forum then it's safe and legal.

I guess the beta won't start until Q4 this year maybe, but I've been trying to decide when to get a ps3 because my xbox360
might melt soon (it showing the first signs), and I could knock off a portion of the ps3 price just trading in the used xbox360
and the games, and the harddrive. plus I wouldn't have to worry about paying for Gold just to play normal online games
on ps3 (too bad Ninja Gaiden Sigma isn't until the Fall, that is gonna have online co-op for some missions. but King of Fighters XII is next month, maybe I'll get good with Athena and join a clan.)

the alternative, is to just wait it out, if the xbox360 gets rrod like my other 5 xbox360s, then I'll just use the store warranty
again to get a new refurbished one. They last for a least a month or three. then I'll just pay for Gold and KOFXII and
that would just make me pay 110 instead of 400 for a ps3, then 30 for a wired controller, then 60 for a game.

the other thing is even if the beta isn't until much later, I don't think I can continue with FFXI after august. it's just like
I just hate playonline and the only way to cancel content ID is through the game itself. and if my system melts again
then depending on the situation, I may not be able to cancel it while still being billed for months I don't play.

The other thing I fear is that for some stupid reason if I lost the warranty receipt I would have to buy a xbox360 full price.
I hear ps3's are more reliable so maybe I should make the switch soon. but at the sametime, there might be a price drop
later on. well unlikely, but maybe I should just wait it out and keep xbox360 until the Fall season. it will be a shame though since I won't be able to chat with my FFXI friends until FFXIV is released.

FFXIV is gonna be such an indescribable bundle of entertainment!!!! and the funny thing is that we haven't been officially
waiting for it until this month. so practically, we only have to wait about a year for it compared to the 3-5 years FF games are released. We are practically getting two brand new FFs next year! totally unheard of.

too bad xbox360 won't get it until much later, but oh well, it's MS's fault for not coming up with a system of rules that mmorpgs can smoothly pass through (they only have a set of rules based on interaction with customers for online games in general.)
Or maybe Sony paying for a timed exclusive is true, but either way, x360 is really missing out on the most important launch in Final Fantasy history!
