Re: E3 Square Enix Press Conference about FFXIV

I'd much prefer a customizable UI. WoW/LotRO/SWG wtfe you want to call it system, but I much preferred having my slots and bars I could stick around, keep those I needed up, etc. I hate the way the system is at the moment. I hate digging through menus and/or setting up macros that are laggy and don't work so well to begin with. And they're terribly limited.

Clickable Macros would even work, as Aerex said. But the key-pressing or R1+X, etc is drab. And having user made interfaces to download is always nice. There were a few pretty ones done in LotRO. I just don't use them because I'm lazy. (See User Title)

As to names, for those that like their name, that'd be good. But I'm actually really sick of Telera, and am going to move on to some other names I have come XIV. I'll probably do a total change from the ground up. Race, name, probably even main jobs depending on what they do to them. Summoner is fun, but it's a pain in the ass to get them all and I really can't be bothered to ever do it again if it's a similar method.

As I said in the other thread, the mention of solo/short time play being catered to and acknowledged is a definite plus for me. Advancement outside of experience is also extremely intriguing. And I know it sounds odd, but I'd also like to know if they're going to keep charging for alts. I find that kind of stupid, to be honest. Yes, I know we can change jobs and blah blah, but some of us like having more than one character, and tacking on more fee to the fee for them is silly. $15/month gets me 7 slots on every server in the damn game on LotRO. Surely SE can move past the 'moar fee for moar character' thing this time. I'm an altoholic. I can't help it.

I hope they do away with so much reliance on gear to the point that you have to carry around a million staves, 2-3 sets of armor, etc. And if they don't, then give us huge ass inventories, please. I like talking to the cute gobbies in Jeuno, but doing quests and farming fame just so I don't have to have mules is a bit asinine. And I don't even have that many jobs I keep gear for.

I agree with the part about the inventory. The one thing that turns me off of FFXI at times is the tiny-ass inventory I've got. I mean, at first, 30 inventory slots, plus your mog house sounds good, but htat fills up pretty fast if you plan on leveling more that one job.

Also... your avatar, it wouldn't happen to be the goddess from Mabinogi, would it?

Re: E3 Square Enix Press Conference about FFXIV

I have no clue. Someone found and made it for me as part of a set for a long-dead RP forum. I would ask him, but I lost contact with him about the same time.

What killed me about inventories was they went on and on about PS2 'limitations' keeping them from adding a large number of slots for everyone, and then when the Tokens come around, surprise! Suddenly they're capable of adding up to 80 storage to everyone in the game. And they had to be sure they could theoretically handle everyone in the game having it before they could use it. So in short, it was all bullshit. That and the whole $10 for storage sat ill on me. Call it incentive, but I found it a bit underhanded. I play on consoles, I don't need the token. I haven't used the LS Beta site in ages, and I can assure you I don't use the same password for anything I have, so it's a useless bauble for me. There's also the issue of the account being in my brother's name. Back when we first got the game, he was going to play it. A few days in and he wasn't interested, and they were using my PS2 anyway, so he gave the HDD to me. So I'm not that sure I could even get a token, and if I ever had issues, I could never get them resolved. And I am oh-so-very-not into restarting on this game. But that's a massive derail.

PS3 won't be giving any 'limitations' for many, many years to come. There is no reason whatsoever for us to start off with a pithy amount of inventory and have to grind to get it to anything approaching acceptable. This is doubly true if they're going to put so much weight on our 'weapons' and the development changes they bring. It sounds to me like we're going to be toting an awful lot of the bastards around. I just hope it's nothing like Legendary Weapons on LotRO. That's such a lottery crapshoot it isn't even funny. Oh and apparently all Hunters are rich and I missed the memo. Or so everyone thinks. Any Hunter weapon is 4x everyone else's. x_x

Re: E3 Square Enix Press Conference about FFXIV

I don't play FFXI anymore, so pardon me if I missed something, but...

What is the maximum inventory space?
What is the maximum size of a mog safe?
What is the maximum capacity of storage?
What is the maximum amount a mod locker can hold?
How many items you you store in a satchel?

I believe the answer to all of the above is 80, right? That means the PS2 limitations are very real. You can't have a single stuff option greater than 80. Granted I don't think the PS3 will cause any problems for a long time(if it ever causes any problems), but I don't think dismissing the PS2 limitations as bullshit is a good idea.

I know I'd be really pissed off if some tardshit took my name to try to act like they were me. Or just to cockblock me from having my name. Would be stupid.

Nothing wrong of course if you want to change your name to something else, but for those of us who do not want to change at all, I appreciate SE doing this to protect against people being dicks. You know, because this is online and people suck.
There are also ways to confirm its not that person, though. Forums, community LS sites.

I don't know if I would pick the same name or races again, much less the same names. I suppose that's because I come to see my MMO characters as their own people after a time. Foobar and Kitten are of Vana'diel, not Erozea. Of course, it will be weird to be in the FFXIV LBR linkshell and still be addressed as Foobar or Kitten.

Yeah that's the thing, even for the people we know in WoW who had to choose different names, we still call them by their FFXI names. It's just habit. Though at this point, we also call a lot of people by their first names.

                    • Re: E3 Square Enix Press Conference about FFXIV

It isn't the fact that the 80 is the top that is the problem. I'm well aware of and noticed the number. Is the fact that they can apparently keep adding groups of 80 without issue, and yet still claim limitations. Sure one method may cap, but there's always another. They don't have to add stupid arbitrary nonsense to it (real-life baubles, Imperial Currency) to it, they just do it because they can. They could do just like plenty of MMOs, simply add another 'box' of 80 one day, wipe their hands off, and keep going on the next task. The only hard part I can see is coming up with some suitably quirky name, since they seem to be fond of those. Solution: Mog Safe 1. Mog Safe 2. Mog Safe 3. etc. I'm sorry, but I don't see the limitation there if they're capable of still adding method on top of method. 80 might be a hard cap for an individual setting, but that's it. And to me that doesn't count as a limitation. So instead of the stupid quests and real life item whoring, just give us sufficient inventories from the start. We've all got better things to grind and achieve than space enough to store our gear. And if it turns out it's not enough, don't try coming up with a stupid quest or name, just add a second 'set'.

The only limitations we're ever going to run into is if they drag the 360 into this. Graphically if you need the game to look any better than a PS3 can make it, then I really can't empathize. There's only so far I can accept the 'graphics' obsession before I start shaking my head. The PS3's capabilities is about the limit of my tolerance for the babble on graphical 'limitations'.

Yes that was certainly an unexpected surprise when we finished the FFXI beta. I scored 4 beta invites, two were PS2. I still have one sealed kit that they sent me.........god only knows why! LOL But I'm always content to just be able to play just the game, I really don't expect compensation. I've beta'd games where you get some cute little in game item as a thank you but a $100 thank you like SE did....that was just WOW!

As far as FFXIV goes, if the Square Enix gods would like to save this granny $60 and give me the game as a beta testing gift, it would be GREATLY appreciated! (Especially after hubby got the shaft with his pension recently.)

I had read differently, based on quotes from Balfree and TheGrandMom in the E3 2009 thread. What I read was:

XIV will keep the fantasy theme and art style of XI while adding more elements of high technology, but not to the extent of XIII.

And the new logo was a hint towards the new battle system and not character growth, they stated plainly characters will grow through weapon choices.

I'll go pull up the posts I'm referencing in case I'm wrong.

It'll probably result in a world similar to FFXII. I was going to say FFIV at first (Space ships, giant mechs, etc.) but IV still seems abit closer to fantasy than sci-fi.

Do the same thing Bungie does. Bundle your entry code to the Beta with another game (maybe FF 13 depending on the timing of both releases? FFXIV would have to be Q4 2010 though for this to work) or for the first X many people who pre-order FF XIV (I like the latter option)

It's highly likely they will do it that way Mal. It makes perfect sense since you know that they won't release both games at the same time. So if 13 is scheduled to be released in April 2010 and 14 is coming out the same year it will probably be in the fall, at least 6 months after 13. So in that 6 months they can absolutely do a beta test. Then Sept/Oct-ish they will release the game in time for the Christmas rush. Doing that way ensures a spike in sales for 13 and hopefully beta testers get hooked and thats a win for 14's release.
