  • Re: The *ahem* OFFICIAL "FINAL FANTASY XIV Online" Thread of Ultimate Anticipation!

    The thing is, Abjuration armor is still better than a lot of the stuff that's come since. It's pretty god damned sad when Adaman/Armada is better than Ares for a WAR or DRK even though Zilart was the 1st "expansion" (the devs consider it the other half of the original game)
    <Hmm.>

    Adaman Hauberk Set Summary

    * Defense +160
    * HP -20
    * MP -20
    * STR +10
    * DEX +10
    * VIT -10
    * INT -10
    * MND -10
    * Accuracy +33
    * Attack +44
    * Evasion -31

    Ares's Cuirass Set Summary

    * Defense +158
    * HP +10%
    * MP +10%
    * STR +22
    * DEX +6
    * VIT +19
    * AGI +3
    * INT -3
    * MND -3
    * Accuracy +29
    * Attack +43
    * Evasion -19
    * Double Attack +2%
    * Adds Refresh Effect
    * Set: Enhances "Double Attack" Effect (+5%) Verification Needed

    I'm not seeing what you're seeing. Moreover, you're not gimp for not having either one, and as long as there are "clone" sets there will likely be one that's marginally better than the other.

    I don't see the problem.

      The Adaman Body at the very least is far better than Ares. Looking over them again it's actually best to mix and match some of the pieces.

      Head: Ares, no contest. Higher Acc & Atk values even over Armada

      Body: Adaman/Armada wins here for the big boost to STR DEX ATK and ACC

      Hands: Ares wins again

      Legs: Tough Call. Adaman/Armada is better for TP but the Ares is nuts for WS.

      Feet: Ares...

      Okay, so maybe it was just the body (could have sworn the rest of the set was better) but Zilart still has Kirin's Osode and Byakko's Haidate, not to mention crimson gauntelts and seiryu's kote etc. Relic weapons are also a part of Zilart. And last I checked, Zenith & Koenig were still pretty good sets (though maybe not the best anymore) and a lot of RDM drool over Dalmatica. Oh and then there's Ridll, D-ring, Black Belt... all of which are horribly time consuming thanks to the retardedness of Kings.

      Salvage is also pretty god damned time consuming, but over a long period of time, and only really because of horrible drop rates. The actual event is too bad (just under 2 hours IIRC?)

        Uhuh. And the other expansions have plenty of terrific offerings too.

        ...what's your point?

        There's nothing wrong with earlier expansions' content not being obsoleted. That's a good thing as BBQ pointed out. Imagine that, say, ToAU had eclipsed everything RoZ and CoP had to offer. You'd likely not see the end of those plots any time soon. Who'd waste their times?

          My point was a lot of the best stuff comes from the older, more time-consuming events while the newer, generally shorter stuff isn't always quite as good. I'd like to see more challenging, rewarding, and accessible content in XIV as opposed to things that just take a long time to do. Generally if any one event takes more than 2 hours straight it's over kill. But that's just me; I like to get on and do a bunch of different things rather than sit there for 3 hours or more like a drone working at the same stupid task.

            If you drop the "older" and "newer", I think you're right. Salvage and high tier ZNMs are new, but also very time consuming, and their gear drops are awesome. Assault, Nyzul, Campaign, and lower tier ZNMs are new, and not as time consuming, and their gear is not as good.

            Overall the pattern is more effort -> more reward. That's pretty obviously intentional. Relic and mythic weapons > salvage, hard-to-get abjs, Odin drops, PW and other high tier ZNMs, AV, world pop HNMs > Kirin, JoL, DL, homam, nashira > lower tier sky, sea, ZNM drops, Nyzul > relic, af+1 > campaign points, assault points, therion ichor items > conquest points and IS items. (Crafted items can fit anywhere other than the very top couple of tiers, depending mainly on ingredient rarity.) The main thing that violates the hierarchy of difficulty/quality is Kirin, who is not as hard as he was originally designed to be because of merits and other gear, but some of his drops are still pretty good (if you don't have them already).

            Personally, I think that pattern is much better than WoW's "newer gear is always better" system - there's a lot of content in WoW that is effectively dead because it's just not worth putting in the effort to get epic gear from the original game when you can get so much better from a later expansion. Ironically, your complaint seems to be that it *is* worth doing old content even though there are newer expansions.

            Theoretically, you don't need to do original Dynamis at all except to get DL drops and a few rare/ex pieces for relics. All the same relic armor drops in CoP zones which are 2 hours max, plus you also get accessories and relic-1.

            In practice, I don't know any shells that do CoP exclusively because you get fewer coins per glass and can never take more than 36 people (18 to tav, which would have to be a significant part of your schedule if you never do northlands). But if you really don't like 3+ hour dynamises, you could start a shell that did that.

            Meanwhile, Limbus, Einherjar, Salvage, and Nyzul are all under 2 hours (or much shorter), and the only long event in sky is Kirin, and that's because half the players keep getting teleported to the wrong place. I haven't done sea in a long time, but I don't think there are any fights there that have to be long. ZNMs ditto. And campaign takes as much time as you want it to take. In other words, the vast majority of content is already what you want and the *only* exceptions are classic Dynamis and world HNM pop windows.
            Defeated: Maat, Divine Might, Fenrir, Kirin, Cactrot Rapido, Xolotl, Diabolos Prime, Kurrea, 9/10 Dynamis Bosses (missing Tav), Promathia, Proto-Ultima, Proto-Omega, 4 Jailers, Apocalypse Nigh, 6/6 Nyzul Bosses
            RDM90, PLD90, DRG90, COR90, SCH90, BLU54
            All Nations Rank 10, ZMs & PMs Complete, AUMs Complete, Captain, Nyzul Floor 100 (5 Weapons, 4 WS), Medal of Altana, WotG Mission 15, 1/3 Addons Complete, 9/9 Abyssea Main Quests, 6/6 Caturae

              I do think SE factored in that they wanted people to do the missions for access and make the gear effective so people didn't suddenly stop doing ZM or CoP runs or work to gain Salvage/Nyzul access.

              You might say its too much for one LS to do, well, I find it disturbing that an LS these days would consider doing all of it. There really aren't as many specialized endgame shells as there should be. Perhaps out of fear people will leave once they get what they need, but that's always going to be the case with any kind of endgame LS. So do things that will make people reconsider that behavior, show them they matter. It may not work, but knowing how to boost morale will gain loyalty as much, if not more, than a point system will.

              There's so much tank, support and healer turnover in endgame because people often show these players that they are tools and nothing more. If that's how you're going to treat them, then they are going to take what they need and leave.

                I don't disagree with this philosophy. What I take issue with is people being barred from even participating in some events due to time constraints. The person who can dedicate more time should come out on top faster, but just because you can't play for X amount of time shouldn't be a reason you can't even attempt something.

                This is precisely why I finally had to just quit BRD and get rid of all my gear for it.

                This is yet another problem with the relic quest itself though. It's still a retarded long grind, but you can take your pick of grinding for money to buy currency or spamming dynamis runs for it. Either way is overkill in terms of time invested. I like a good hardcore challenge, but I don't care to toil away at the same god damn thing for hours on end every day for a seemingly indefinite time period. Dynamis isn't even fun for Christ sake. At least Assault and Salvage can be entertaining.

                        Yes and it's preventing hundreds maybe up to thousands of people from playing.
