      Does anyone else find it a little fishy that they "currently have a year of content planned [for ffxi]", and the new MMO comes out... in a year?? >_> {Hmm.}

        ...I just realized something.

Does this mean that "tech demo" of the Crystal Engine or whatever that got released a few years back with the Hume chick in it might be more then just a tech demo?

I mean SE has lied to us before when they said their next MMO wouldn't be an FF title, maybe they were fibbing on the tech demo part as well.

Needless to say, i will be eagerly awaiting this game. FFXI has a style and feel to it no other MMO I've played could match, and if we can play in an improved version of a world featuring the same style and feel then I'm all for it.

No, I don't find it fishy. A year of content planned is pretty normal. That doesn't mean they won't eventually have more content. It just means that is all they have NOW.

Re: The *ahem* OFFICIAL "FINAL FANTASY XIV Online" Thread of Ultimate Anticipation!

You know Ziero I completely forgot about that until I saw the picture on the wiki for ffxiv. The back ground is similar to the homepage scrolling art, but that might just because they loved the organic windurst like look. But I would not pull it past them to stack lies. Alot of my favorite game designers lie to the auidence Kojima made a pasttime of throwing off auidences. Or maybe they were developing a different game and then realized something about the players or the company itself. Silent Hill 4 was originally going to leave out the title Silent Hill but they knew it would draw in more player with it. So adding Final fantasy might be a ploy that which they used and has worked. I watched spirits within originally only because of the name. But maybe at the time they were only focused on the engine and when they named rapture they didnt even have a story just the engine.

There are alot of questions left by all the info we gained (or lack there of), but I think an important topic that really wont be discussed much is the replacement for POL. Originally POL was going to be the future of all online entertianment and games when it launched from SE but it was only used for FMO and FFXI and displaying ads nad homepage updates. So are they going to have it so the game can standsalone launch? I actually did like some of the features POL had like the chat rooms, but no one really used it but yet a community still formed so a standalone launcher would be cool I guess but this brings up the fact of billing and payment. I wouldn't mind setting up my billing through a ssl with web application and getting emails of "You have been billed for.." but that takes some of the simplicity of seeing the notification right before you go play to confirm that the user is aware.

Yea the "this is just a tech demo" lie is probably because they simply leaked it and didnt want to come clean just yet then.

Pretty damn sure FF7's "tech demo" is also something more than just that.

And, tazirai was way ahead of me, i wanted to clarify that the tech demo they mentioned was prolly the one in taz's post, and not FF7's.

PoL Had so little use, and caused so many issues, it's only natural that it would be killed for the new game. SE has already created it's replacement and it's in use by the FFXI community today. Something that doesn't need updates or fixs, can be infinitely expanded and can be accessed anywhere, with your PC or PS3.

Speaking of them, do you suppose they'll continue to cover FFXI after 14 is out, one or the other, or both?

I am really looking forward to this title. I am a big fan of good GFX's, stories and content. if they can deliver on that I will be content, and drop my FFXI account. However, It better be delivered to XB360 ASAP!! GDMFSOB. dont make me try to play on my PC SE.

Re: The *ahem* OFFICIAL "FINAL FANTASY XIV Online" Thread of Ultimate Anticipation!

I'm not missing out on experience this day 1 worldwide!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is worth buying a ps3 for. $400 is nothing compared to a $800 computer. :p

Growth is not based on experience.

Job system will be very different from FFXI

                                Q. How important are the weapons?

                                A. Weapons are very important and have a heavy influence on your character and how they succeed in the game world. Square Enix says to look closely at the official FFXIV logo for hints and hidden meanings about how the game will work.

                                Q. Anything else about the weapons?

                                A. The team let slip to us that choosing weapons for specific tasks one day versus another could affect how your character develops.

                                Q. Are Chocobos back?

                                A. Yes, they will return. But Square Enix has told IGN that it is looking at using them in a completely different way than they were used in Final Fantasy XI (where they were used as riding steeds).

                                Q. When is it coming out and when is the beta?

                                A. The game will come out in 2010, and after Final Fantasy XIII which is scheduled for spring of the same year. Beta plans are still being finalized, but that the plan is to have a longer beta period than that of FFXI (which had a beta of about 3-4 months).

IGN: E3 2009: Final Fantasy XIV - What We Know

I'm guessing there will be mounted combat. and the growth system reminds me of the original Final Fantasy II, it's system
was different from other FF games. This is very very interesting! But if weapons are important, what about armor and magic?
