re: E3 2009: FINAL FANTASY XIV Online Coming in 2010

In reference to many people wanting more limitied time friendly play and a few references to WoW being "solo focused": Its really not, yes getting to level cap can easily be done solo, Instanced dungeons are available at all levels of play and do require a full party to complete and are often a lot of fun. Basically, the difference in soloability between FFXI and WoW is the grind to level cap. Even then, when the last WoW expansion hit I had a LOT of fun questing and levelling with friends. But, if you want to do just about anything at cap, you have to do it with a group. You can solo for money and daily quests, but anything thats considered endgame must be done with a group. For pvp arena fights you have to have a small group of good players using vent to win. For PVE you're looking at 10 or 25 people working well together often for several hours a week to see progression. Thats something I think I would enjoy more in this new FF MMO. Hell, it took me two years to hit 75 in FFXI. Part of that was me wanting some of the best gear I could get, since as a DD unless you're geared to the teeth you're gonna have more than a little trouble getting parties and left waiting potentially for hours.

Level grind I can deal with, raids/instances requiring groups I'm all for, but I'd really like to see the ability to do the storyline missions/quests with solo or low-man. I've missed out on so much of the FFXI content because I don't have large chunks of time to find a group to do them (and now no one seems to be interested in doing them anymore).

      Thanks Yyg!

More on topic it seems like every FFXIV video on youtube other than the one Murphie linked is a rickroll or some other sort of troll. It's annoying.

Well, I for one am incredibly excited. I'm surprised by how much.

And FFXI will be fine. Will it lose subscribers? Sure. But EQ is still going, and look at how old it is. EQ2 certainly pulled some veteran EQ players away. Some never left. Some went back. Some played both. Many went to WoW or other games. FFXI will likely experience a population decrease, but there are a lot of servers, and they can always be consolidated a bit to keep populations up. There is still a lot of content in FFXI worth exploring, so there's no reason to think that it will just die.

I want to say SOE did this thing where you had a subscription to both EQ and EQ2 or some other SOE game for one price (not the base line price for one game, but some sort of prorated shit). Or maybe I'm crazy. I don't know. But maybe SE would do something like that eventually.

EDIT: Now! The important question. Who is creating Dreams in Eorzea so I can still post with all of you fine folks?

No matter how easy or less painful EXP is made, I think we all know its going to be a grind no matter what. Grouping for EXP or soloing it - either works for me.

As far and endgame content goes, I want less emphasis on content that may need an alliance or more than one alliance to progress. Of course, its really all about finding the right group to do that with. Problem is with FFXI's server structure, you're at the mercy of whatever your server currently has.

DC Universe Online is going to evolve past that problem and I hope SoE is sharing their notes with SE on this one. DCU players will be able to team up with any friend from any server seamlessly. Slow night on the Earth Prime server? Let's try the Earth 2 Server or the Earth X server. No silly fees to transfer, its just part of the game. Or as DC would rationalize it, a "multiverse."

Would do wonders for endgame guilds. It would make finding groups so much easier, in addition to make community standing mean a lot more.

see I knew "Rapture" would be called Final Fantasy XIV Online otherwise it wouldn't get half as much attention in the world if it was called something else. I'm so glad Square Enix is smart enough to realize that marketing fact. :D

I disagree with transferring characters. This is a new mmorpg, it's definitely not Vana'diel, people should start from scratch like everyone else. Yes, they seem to brought back the FFXI races in some form. They might not even be called what we know them as. Yet even if they still are called the same, each FF is it's own universe. FFXIV would benefit more this way and would feel more refreshing instead of treated as a "FFXI super expansion".

They already said in interviews that FFXI will continue as long as enough people play it. But eventually like all mmorpgs, it will reach its end and the next FF mmorpg will fully take over as the next most popular FF mmorpg for years to come.

hopefully the combat system is basically the same. yes the job system needs to be improved and make every single one feel fun and useful in several ways.

I'm SOOOO GLAD that Yoshida is the artist for this FF. I think the atmosphere will feel like a Vagrant Story/Tactics mmorpg,
which is great cause everytime I look at FFXII's intro with the people in the markets, I always imagined a mmorpg like that,
and Yoshida's attention to detail, magic, clothes and more is just so unique and beautiful in its own fantasy way.

This gets me excited to what the towns will be like. I dunno about the Nations system. personally I think the community
should be more unified this time somehow, but I think there will be separate nations/factions like before.

I wonder how the towns will be like? looking at the painting FINAL FANTASY XIV the art has left me speechless
at how wonderful and magnificent Eorzea will turn out to be.

Especially with Crystal Tools at its side, maybe we'll finally have visible capes? :D

I also think the equip system should stay the same, but there should be more variety in lv.1 clothing.

Also I feel there should be "jobs" that are not related to "jobs" for combat. It's hard to explain but I think that would
give the community more to do, and still benefit in some way, without needing to necessarily get into crafting and
mining and all that, but that stuff would still be there too.

But ya I think the best step for the Job system is to not give each Job an experience level. there would be only
one experience pool and that's for the player's overall experience. Their skills would be what is learned from whatever
Job they equip. So someone could be a White Mage specialist. Or they can be someone that knows white mage spells,
but they can also wield a sword if they developed their swordskill to use one effectively, kind of like Final Fantasy II's
system where your job is basically your skills as whole. But then players being a jack of all trades would kind of diminish the unique roles. I dunno, I just think that each Job shouldn't be leveled up like it's a separate character. If someone is a level 20 RDM, they should still be at level 20, even if they switch to a THF, just that their THF skills haven't been learned/skilled up. But I just think a subjob kinda of forces players into a certain role, since of course some subjobs are better than others for the main job. But this is a deep subject. even if it's like FFXI, I'm okay with that, but I think they can do better with this.

I really would like Weaponskills to comeback too. they are very fun and give each weapon type more personality.

I'm not okay with auction houses being left in the hands of players. We have all seen the corruption that can come out of that.
FFXIV should be strict with item values and price limits for every item in the game, that way people can't sell stuff too high beyond what the item is really worth. Personally I rather trust NPC shop and NPCs bazaar prices than player prices, but then people would complain none of that money is returning to the community. But since even an mmorpg is basically a
civilization that involves more than just players, we can still make money just selling the stuff to NPCs, and NPCs buying from us and selling items to us at fair prices. Take for example someone who crafts a rare item, they sell it to an NPC, they would get the full value of the item, just as they would rom a player, now if a player needs that item, they can just buy it from an NPC. No hassle, no time sinks waiting for items to sell, no economy nonsense, And everyone would make good money and get the gear they want better this way, and the jerks that try to get rich off the poor, can't exploit the economy anymore.

I also think the combat system should be more reasonable with damage and accuracy and make it more practical based on the material of the weapon, the distance of the enemy, what the enemy is made out of, etc. So like if someone is firing an arrow at an enemy at point blank range, it should 100% hit, unless the enemy has good evasion. yet I think some enemies like Crabs should never have evasion stats. it's ridiculous how FFXI's stats work. even for an mmorpg, it really made you feel like a incompetent adventurer missing a Gigas that's like right there. But I don't think they'll ever fix this and they'll just choose stats over physics.

also I think maps should allow people to set map makers on the map, even if you don't have the map of the zone, it still
makes sense to use map markers like a personal trail where people can plot their own course and keep track of where they
are and where the exits and key locations are at, without needing the map. just use the letters and numbers to set
coordinates, as they explore and draw out their own custom markers based on the paths they found, so they can record
and remember which way leads to what, and where such and such entrance/npc/whatever can be found on the map,
based on the markers they set on the map when they found those spots earlier. I think that would make exploration
much better instead of depending on finding/buying the full map before they can use map markers.

but yeah, there's a whole list of things FFXIV can improve. but they should take notes from mmorpgs like Champions Online and try to make the job system more fun, useful, flexible and doable without needing to be rich or must-have gear or subjob/whatever. and they should make things more obtainable for jobs that need something to do their job. like Ninja's Utsusemi Ni should of been sold in a NPC shop at a price that's no more than a WHM's most needed spells at level 37.
I still shudder at farming those neckalaces just for Utsusemi Ichi........ I think crazy time sinks can't be helped no matter what mmorpg SE makes.

I would really like equipable materia-like crystals to boost stats of armor/clothing so visible gear swapping (other than weapons) wasn't required, and clothing could become a more customizable feature while keeping job and all the other restrictions in place.

I other words kinda like what happens with those windower plugins that let you lock your armor.

-You could swap gear (materia crystals) at will to boost your stats, but your external appereance wouldn't change. And it wouldn't change anything other than that. Boosts would be restricted to the armor slots equipable by your job so you would only be able to put your "Leaping Boots materia" in the feet slot and only if you are the right job/lvl. Etc.

We already covered the no tail thing but look at them; their upper bodies are still fairly big but not quite as wide as before, and they have normal freaking legs instead of tiny little pegs! Nice to see they can actually support their own body mass now lol!
