[/COLOR]Moving on, the general consensus is that a lot of "end-game" players aren't willing to sacrifice "all their hard work" to jump into a new game.

Unless I was mistaken, what really separates FFXI from any other game?

It's as if people don't realize that this is just another game, that just has a WHOLE lot of shit that other games don't.

It's no different from paying to play a really huge (liek xbawks) game, albeit, with a glorified chatroom.

But to each-his-own, I suppose. I was recently thinking about actually fishing for a Lu Shangs, and when I heard this announcement, I quickly realized that I've been losing interest in FFXI for a while (too much to do, too little time).

So maybe that's the source of my happiness.

FINALLY, A KILLER APP FOR THE PS3!!! (sike, I just needed A REAL EXCUSE to get it, but FFXIII Versus was going to be my reason anyway).

Also, lol everytime someone says "my character". We pay SE for the rights to control an avatar. They can do what they want with our characters at any time for any reason.

I'm scared to even mention FFXIV in my Linkshell because it might offend someone the wrong way, or make the wait more
painful to them and they just don't wanna hear about. well lately they have been quiet about it but I'll see what they talk about tommorrow and then jump in if they mention anything.

But I think FFXI veterans, or some of them, will move to FFXIV easily and with much anticipation, just like there are already WoW players packing their bags and waiting for the green light to start playing FFXIV next year! Some may refuse to let go of their hard work, but most can't resist experiencing the "next best mmorpg", including those that didn't have the patience,
time or tolerance to reach the level cap and make it to endgame activities. This time they will be pretty even with everyone else at launch, and massively more options to team up with people and work together, so it won't be like LS these days where the endgame members do their thing, and the newbies are left to fend for themselves most of the time.

FFXIV will naturally draw in all kinds of subscribers,
    FFXI veterans,
    WoW veterans,
    MMORPG newcomers,
    MMORPG veterans,
    curiousity seekers,
    friends and family, etc. etc!
especially those that missed the launch of FFXI. I have yet to experience an mmorpg of this quality first day!

It would be pretty scary if everyone here landed on the same server, that's for sure. <_<

I definitely want to be on the same server with TGM and TM. Murhpie can come along too for the hell of it (mostly because we need a minority in the mix. Nothing like having a homosexual tell you that your Mog House isn't fab enough, then takes you on a shopping spree).

          :-D

I have great fun with the people I play with, but I really like the DiV community, and I'd love to post here with fellow players, and have a Blog-Ring of sorts with 5 or more people so that we all talk about the same events, but from different perspectives.

Most of the people I roll with go to BG or don't blog at all. There are no blogs of people on Gilgamesh that aren't end-game/assholes. :-/

that would be sooo funny! and fun. You'll know it's us from the website if we /poke you no less than 2 times. :p
Anyone think the servers will have the same names? Or the names might be based on something besides FF summons?
The scary part is trying to choose the right server that has the most good people, while at the sametime, not the biggest population. or the lowest population. It will be hard to gauge just by server names. each server will have its own mix of fwends and jackasses. Hey I know! maybe FFXIonline can make a poll and decide which FFXIV server will be the official

I like this idea. The cookies don't hurt.

I'll have mine with tea, thank you very much.

I'll make sure to remind TM to make a poll when the release date gets closer. As for now, I'm eagerly waiting to see how they're handling beta. First thing I'm getting after I settle on this accident is a PS3, then we play the waiting game.

Oh yeah, PS3 for $400 is cheaper than getting a new PC, FYI.

Even if you got a graphics card for ~150, there's still RAM to take into account ($50-50) and it's unlikely that people have Quad Cores (but maybe next year they'll be cheaper).

All in all, starting from scratch, buying a PS3 for $400 + FFXI for $60 honestly seems like the cheapest choice.

I know damn well that my computer can't even handle FFXI in Dynamis...

ya, I'm getting a PS3 myself. after the 6th x360 I'm just fed up with the rrod.

Hopefully we can play FFXIV without needing the disk after installation. that's another reason why I like playing FFXI
on ps2 instead of Xbox360. if anything happens to the disk, I can't launch it! I prefer just having the disk as a backup.

Oh yeah I wonder when the beta will start for North America? it could be the earliest chance to try it and help report any glitches! and they said the beta period will be longer than before, this could lead to a more polished launch.

My whole LS is Butt-hurt over FF XIV and even mentioning it warrants death...

So I left. If they're going to be such dicks about it then all the more reason to make a clean break. I only ever talk to maybe 5 friends on a regular basis and half of them are friends IRL who live near me.

Ya I have a feeling some LSs are sensitive about the subject, because it somehow interferes with their enjoyment of FFXI.
I guess some kind of insecure idea of a potentially superior FF mmorpg making the current one feel obsolete. :p

for me, it actually makes me enjoy FFXI more while waiting and speculating about FFXIV.
it would be fun if my LS talks about it once in a while and ideas what it might be like, and plans for moving the LS over
                        and stuff.

well ya like all beta tests, not everyone will get in, but I guess it's like a lottery, there might be a chance, but of course
a better chance than a lottery, since hundreds to thousands may be invited (okay maybe hundreds).
through some website, they'll probably ask people to sign up for a the ps3 beta test or PC beta test, and
just wait for an email that gives them a code that will let them download the beta from PSN or whatever.
                        it might work like that.

I'm going to HOPE that out of the current PS3 owners, the vast majority of them are not interested in FFXIV

                          *sigh*

Part of the "current" issues, I suppose, is that a lot of people (myself included) might totally say "It's been real, Vana'Diel!"

And go cold turkey. I don't foresee myself playing XI and XIV at the same time, and that'll just mean that, FOR PEOPLE LIKE MYSELF, FFXI will just have to go to the wayside.

I'm going to stay active in the game, because I enjoy it (omg, Spellcast changed my life, lol), but it's mostly because there's no definitive date for FFXIV.

It kind of puts things in perspective though; Not willing to deal with bullshit when the end is coming. Knowing SE, there's no guarantee that "2010" is set is stone, so I'm not going to burn any bridges (It's only JUNE!!!!), but I do know that I'm not going to be bitching too much about CoP access, Sky gear, Dynamis Gear, let alone the fact that I'm only up to floor 5 of Nyzul, haven't done Salvage, have no Einherjar points, can't stand ZNM, still haven't capped Merits on RDM...

I think I'm going to shy away from a lot of "End-game" activities and focus on getting my character maxed out.

Full RDM Merits and Lu Shangs, and I'll be happy. I don't really need the gear if I'm not doing end-game :-D

Rejoice and be merry, everyone! For the end is nigh!

---------- Post added at 04:56 AM ---------- Previous post was at 04:53 AM ----------

Reminds me of all those movies we watch (Knowing comes to mind, as it was the most recent); when the citizens know that the world is going to end soon, you see the character of a lot of people.

Seeing the butthurt, fuck SE, I'm so glad, can't wait, it's going to be pointless, I'm not going to keep my character, etc reactions just goes to show how diverse people are in thinking and expectations.

Also shows that people take gaming way too serious.

a lot of ps3 owners will be interested in FFXIV, especially the Japanese console community, almost all of them play FFXI on PS2 instead of PC, and nothing wrong with that.

                              Yeah.

I'm sure that if I could have afforded a harddrive back then (FFXI came out when I was a junior in HS), I would have been in the Beta. I didn't get FFXI until the summer after PC release in America (the game was still VERY young. I don't think people had started meriting when I got it).

I'm trying to get to the market first and harass it. I want to take crafts up while they're still cheap. I want to do things while it's still easy to do.

I imagine that the first generation of people to level crafting in FFXI held onto the secrets VERY tightly (I remember before the wiki, when all we had was Alla, and a lot of people didn't know how to get ores from gardening).

So yeah, I want to be an early adopter so that I have a leg up on the competition. Not saying that I'll rush to 75 or w/e the cap is; I want to be the best acclimated so that I am in a good position for success when the game comes out.

Since I don't have the time to play that I used to (real life and all) a more casual approach to gaming appeals. Not that I'm ready to throw in the towel in Vanadiel just yet (despite what I was saying the other day), but I'm definitely excited to try out a new FF title that is a bit more accommodating to my schedule.
