Even in FFXI if you run far enough most mobs will stop chasing you. Hell, in WoW things stop chasing after like 10 feet.

Here's the video interview IGN got. It's very revealing and I'm even more excited about the game now ^^
I'm so happy about FFXIV that I think... Fliegar should start talking in the 3rd person all day. (Fliegar will do this in RL too).

I can't wait for this game.

I played FFXI awhile ago but only made it a few levels (due to school).

        Hurray!

One bow is plenty, but you need like eight god damn polearms. You can't have too much pointiness.

There is no rush. If you're not willing to take your time, don't be surprised when no one wants to give you much of theirs.

@_@ I think a person doesn't need that many if there are party members to fill in those weapon roles.

            hmmmmmm

Growth is not based on experience.

Job system will be very different from FFXI

            Q. How important are the weapons?

            A. Weapons are very important and have a heavy influence on your character and how they succeed in the game world. Square Enix says to look closely at the official FFXIV logo for hints and hidden meanings about how the game will work.

            Q. Anything else about the weapons?

            A. The team let slip to us that choosing weapons for specific tasks one day versus another could affect how your character develops.

            Q. Are Chocobos back?

            A. Yes, they will return. But Square Enix has told IGN that it is looking at using them in a completely different way than they were used in Final Fantasy XI (where they were used as riding steeds).

            Q. When is it coming out and when is the beta?

            A. The game will come out in 2010, and after Final Fantasy XIII which is scheduled for spring of the same year. Beta plans are still being finalized, but that the plan is to have a longer beta period than that of FFXI (which had a beta of about 3-4 months).

IGN: E3 2009: Final Fantasy XIV - What We Know

I'm guessing there will be mounted combat. and the growth system reminds me of the original Final Fantasy II, it's system
was different from other FF games. This is very very interesting! But if weapons are important, what about armor and magic?

LMAO! at this rate, I think 18 will be considered a standard party. and 54 is considered a full alliance.

or maybe Galka will be able to chuck axes like hammer brothers? :p

well as long as the world is still purely persistent zones instead of instanced areas, and there is still
real-time weather and stuff. That's one of my bigger concerns.

I'm also guessing that since weapons are important, maybe magic-users can't cast magic effectively without equipped
staffs or other enchanted weapons. and they could have a strong effect on spell potency instead of just adding a
                    mere +5 MP. :p

Also they mentioned the weapon you use versus what you may use another day or whatever affects your growth,
this hints that jobs may be unlocked through a tree-like system, kind of like FFTactics, except your job is based on your
                    weapon.

So like if you use a Staff you are basically a White Mage. and if you use a Rod, then you are basically a Black Mage.
and if you built both of your skills with those weapons, you might unlock something like a Time Mage or something,
while still being able to use a portion of the skills you learned in the other classes. It might work something like that.

You took what I was thinking to a whole different level. I was thinking they'd make it like if you use a great sword (Long Delay) long enough you'll get strong enough to swing it faster ( I think Fable was supposed to be like that). Or if you use shields it'll make you more Tankish. *I'd better stop reading this topic. It is causing me to get get really interested!!! Can't Wait!*

I would guess if someone trains between fighter and mage-type weapons, you might
unlock hybrid jobs and skills (like warrior (1h sword w/ shield) + white mage (staff) = paladin skills unlocked)

black mage (rod) + whitemage (staff) = red mage

thief (dagger) + monk (knuckles) = ninja?

ninja (katana) + warrior (2h sword) = samurai?

black mage (rod) + warrior (2h sword) = dark knight?

warrior (1h axe) + red mage (1h sword) + monk (knuckles) = beastmaster?

but if each player has a pack chocobo they can't mount, just guide around, that might be pretty crowded in some parts
since for every player there would be a chocobo in the zone.
unless a chocobo can carry the equipment of the whole party too, but it would need some type of security measures.
and does this mean chocobos are owned? not rented/no time limits anymore?

and chocobos wouldn't be allowed in towns, so where would all that gear be stashed? does that mean each player has less inventory slots? well I'm all for realistic encumbrance but this might be tricky if chocobos can't be used like horses for travel.

I still don't get why travelers guide their pack mules instead of mount them as well for faster travel? well ya that's less weight for the chocobo if it only has to carry the extra gear, but this is very interesting!

actually, that could apply pretty well to all of the jobs.
