The biggest thing I'm curious about at this point is what the PC requirements are going to be. I'm probably going to have to buy a new PC if I want to play this game... my poor laptop lags on ffxi most of the time. Not to mention I heard somwhere it will be vista and windows 7 supported only, and not XP, which I have. I'd like to know the requirements so I know how much I'm going to need to save up for a new computer by next year ~_~;.

I really think speculating on how this new mmo is going to be is kind of pointless until they give us more information... right now all they've really said is "Hay, we're making a new mmo, mmk? We'll throw in some familiar races into the trailer, to throw you guys all off. Now you think it's going to be the same as FFXI, silly players! Now let's sit back and watch all the speculation and laugh while they are totally on the wrong track~" Or somesuch idea.

Keeping my precious tarutaru would be spectacular, but I'm not banking on the idea that they're going to make characters transferrable. Given that this is not a direct sequel, apparently, they're probably going to make everyone start over again. Which kind of makes me a little sad, I'm quite attached to my tarutaru, but if they have Tarutaru in the new game, I guess it won't be as hard to start over, or something... I just hope I can manage to get the game early enough to snag my name. If I couldn't name my character the same thing I've always had, I won't know WTF to name her.

Most problems with XI are due to the crappy/outdated client though. For instance, I can run CoD4 with all the bells and whistles set to max save for AA (2x) and the game runs great. But I lag in XI when more than a dozen characters are on the screen at the same time (and framerate goes to hell when I'm in Besieged.)

So considering this time around SE will probably use DirectX 9 at the very least you may not need to upgrade that much depending on what you have on your comp.

I'm going to go ahead and say it first.

There will be less Chinese gil sellers in FFXIV than in FFXI.

        Reason?

        XIV = 14 seperated = 1 4

1 4 can be read as 'go die' or 'die' in Chinese.

Well I run on a laptop, and from what I've been told (I don't know how true it is...) it's extremely hard to upgrade a laptop. I might be better off just getting a really nice desktop, anyway. The limited hard drive space on my laptop hurts my storage, as I'm a photographer, and high-resolution images tend to take up at least 50% of my hard drive at any given time, before I back them up on my external hard drive :/ Not to mention I also need to replace my battery, because it's fried and doesn't hold a charge anymore. When I'm running ffxi or any other memory-heavy program, I have to have a laptop cooler going underneath it, so it doesn't overheat. 'Cause dang that thing gets hot, and causes my programs to super-lag D:

XD, that's brilliant. Makes you wonder why they made ff13versus rather than ff14, and making this new one 15.

          That made my day, sir.

Damnit. We're gonna have to do a lot of work to relearn damage and enmity formulae.

Nothing is wrong with jumping. Jumping being in the game would be fine, especially to get around those annoying rocks around Delkfutts tower. It's been so long, I wonder if that is the right name.

Any way, Jumping and intelligent collision detection: good. Jump button in an MMO: annoying and unnecessary. I'm thinking something like Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time.

But what is most important to me is Mog-airships to replace Mog-houses. It would be so awesome!

I don't they're going to use materia. It clearly looks like we're getting another variation of the job system (going by the artwork on the website anyway)

What jobs will make it in this time though, and how will they differ from FFXI? Are they going to use a system similar to FF5 or Tactics where you can mix and match job abilities? What about the skills system? Crafting?

So many things they can do differently. I hope they don't make basic necessities such as potions so hard to come by this time. It'd be great if every melee job could tank this time, with a few jobs (like PLD) who specialize in tanking doing it better than everyone else as opposed to having just two jobs who are good at it and everyone else takes hits like a little girl.

partially. They could do it for the PC and 360, but that would screw over PS2 owners and also SE said while it's totally within their power, they'd rather spend that time and money on a new game (thus, Rapture)

Oh and also, to make the history more different or fun, if you did play ffxi before, and they did what Konami usually does with old data...

Maybe your a descendent from your original character in ffxi? Or they could build a history about a great hero / heroine that was your character in ffxi and use that for all the cut scenes to mention him or her?

                  That would be totally cool.

Oh and what is the official website for it? I dunno where it's at.

http://www.finalfantasyxiv.com though it doesn't really have much information on it at all :/ just a flashy trailer and some screenshots... from the trailer.

                      Would be nice to see a few changes to old favorites this time around though;

WAR - Put more emphasis on being able to use virtually any weapon please. WAR should really be an all-out bruiser who can wield the right weapon at the right time. Maybe give them some abilities that change depending on the kind of weapon equipped?

MNK - SE did a damn good job of MNK in XI, the only thing I'd like to see changed is it's ability to mitigate damage improved a little.

THF - Less focus on enmity control, more on obtaining money and items please. Honestly, leave the sneaky shit to Ninja.

BLM - Try to make every element useful this time, instead of just ice and lightning?

SMN - They're probably going to come up with an entirely new way to use summons, but if they don't at least enable them to truly multitask instead of just heal and support and only being a respectable DD by end game. SMN's power should come at the trade off of huge MP consumption like it traditionally has.

NIN - More focus on Ninjutsu and Throwing this time please! And for the love of god if you bring back Utsusemi the way it is in XI and allow NIN to be a tank again instead of a DD/Puller ...

SAM - Enable SAM as the tank this time (the way it should be, not NIN)

No job should ever be invited to an alliance for no reason than to increase item drop rates.

It's as bad as justifying Rangers as overpowered because they have to pay for their ammo.

Make the thief tricks more prominent as opposed to "safety net" benefits, and increase the concept of what sneaking means.

But then, i'm hoping for a lot less rigid of class systems anyway. Goooo Vagrant Story equipment leveling!

Actually, I had been discussing with Murphie that if you can't keep your skills, it would be at least nice to keep some momento items; moogle rods, Yukatas, AF, and so on. I was also thinking it would be nice to keep your quest/mission logs, even if they're totally useless, Murphie suggested a book you could keep in your home.

All of that would fit very well as 'useless old relics' that only look cool and interesting, that would fit the idea you describe. Maybe they could 'link' characters instead of importing them, that way if you continue playing FFXI, your progress and rewards there will be reflected. It would seem strange from a time perspective, but it's simple enough to have your moogle say "Look what I found while I was cleaning the attic, kupo! It's one of your grandfather <FFXI CHARACTER NAME HERE>'s relics! You should display it, kupo!"

Plus it would allow people to modify their characters-- nothing canonical says that people of other races can't mate, they just generally don't seem to. Or it could be a non-biological ancestor. Could keep Feba's memories alive in a Hume, for example.
