Exactly. People keep talking like this game is going to be a carbon copy of FFXI. That seems incredibly unlikely.

      On the same basis:

FFXIV cannot have gil. FFXIV cannot have an AH. FFXIV cannot have Kraken Clubs. FFXIV cannot have Penta Thrust. FFXIV cannot have Rangers or Black Mages. FFXIV cannot have gear swaps. FFXIV cannot have Tractor. FFXIV cannot have competent RDMs.

Wow! FFXIV is going to be a pretty different place with everything that's been 'abused' removed. Of course, it was already probably going to be a pretty different place because it's not the same fucking game, but that's still incredible!

        really?
        have you programmed?

it's rather easy considering all stats and data are stored in a database

        INSERT INTO ffxivuser
        SELECT *
        FROM bah.user
        WHERE (polid = abcd1234)

Assuming values and stats would copy.

Which is a pretty huge assumption. I mean, if SE wanted to make the same damn game, they would just add another damn expansion with a graphical update in it. Not create an entirely new game with a new title.

Aren't "PS2 limitations" the reason why they claim they can't do a graphical update?

They still wouldn't call it FFXIV if it was just an update to FFXI.

but you'd think things would carry over that worked?

                like nostalgic FF jobs,

the currency called gil like every Final Fantasy

                Chocobos

                Final Fantasy magic

and the fact the races look inspired by the FFXI races at the very least.

let's take Final Fantasy 1 and Final Fantasy 2 in comparison. they have similarities but they are different worlds.
ya the rules in FFXIV may be quite different in certain aspects, but it would work against it if it's too different from
what people are used to. I mean look at how much PSO Episode III flopped because of how different it was from
the formula that sparked success in the first place. But ya I understand FFXIV is a new world, and there may be
differences in its systems (hopefully the battle system is pretty much the same. we don't need marvel ultimate alliance in
our FF.) but there must also be similarities to help the players feel right at home.

I do agree that there should be clearer demarcation of what is and is not passable, though - that should have made it into my long post. (WoW is even worse, with some slopes too steep to walk/jump up and other *identical looking* slopes you need to walk/jump up to reach important places.) Freer movement would be nice in some ways, but otherwise give us clearly visible and obvious forcefields, lava, cliffs, or something else that players won't try to enter - and then don't put even one easter egg in it, *ever*, or players will spend the next 5 years trying to find the second place where you can walk through a wall or other unwalkable terrain.
There are slopes like that in FFXI too (Tahrongi, Meriphataud, Altepa), though not ones you need for important places; there are steps in various areas that are hard to go up, at least for a taru (such as Palborough Mines in front of the BC); and then there are those niches in the Qufim tunnel areas where it looks like you should be able to go between the rocks.

Yeah, there was a chocobo in the video so I'm pretty sure they are in lol. I just wonder if there will be more than 6 jobs availiable from the start or if we'll have to wait for expansions like in FFXI.

A graphical update wouldn't justify a new number, or what is apparently an entirely separate world (at the very least, a far-away part of Vana'diel, like the far east, or a distant past/future)

And they're perfectly capable of doing a graphical update for PC/360/PS3 (assuming they release a PS3 version) and leaving the PS2 on the old graphics. It takes more work, since they basically have to make every graphical bit twice, but it's perfectly doable. EVE Online has done it, as has Ultima Online I believe.

ya, but do you expect the FFXIV to be really be different from FFXI aside from world, locations, history, etc.?

well of course Summoners, Thiefs and such will have different stats and perhaps abilities, priorities and uses. but I think the gameplay will be somewhat the same, with some tweaks and additions making it feel new and different.

Well I would just like to know how different you theorize FFXIV will be compared to FFXI, in general. hopefully it doesn't need to reinvent the wheel to deserve the XIV on the title.

Well considering the way 12 was made, It felt like a very limited MMO (It even had hunts that at the challenge level could be deemed similar to HNM hunts), so I am wondering will character building be alot like that accept with more barriers to stop progression into non similar areas for instance thf to get nin ability or nin to get thf ability understand able but thf to get pld ability would require alot more effort to ge. Me personally I like the point by system for ablities, I think this is the reason I like how merits were done. It forces people that want everything to be worst then those that are focused. So I really hope they have that system. But that system might not work with the ability to have multiple jobs per a character.Plus a point buy system for weapons (ff12) and stats (ff10 and 12) would annoy the piss out of me. I never played WoW which I heard did something similar, but I did play Starwars MMO first and second updates and that buying system was great and you felt the differences like if you were another class completely.

I would love to have player macros that could trigger if hp/mp > < =. For instance you activate the macro and it will wait unitl function occurs. This might make things easier, but I would think it would be a nice addition.

A mini map in UI. Not really needed but it is so good to have, in long distance travel in dangerous unfamilar territories.

I have yet to play last remnant or infinite undiscovery but I could see some things coming from those as well like town, world design and even some limited real time action maybe. Like in Eternal sonata had semi real time blocking system that actually required actual position placement as well as planning. So maybe they can implement this for shieldblock, guarding (I still think guarding should be for every class with out sheild equip) and parrying.

Yes, I expect it to be different. Except apparently in terms of races.

Since they play somewhat the same in every FF game, that's not exactly a big leap of imagination.

I think it will be a Final Fantasy MMORPG. That's about it.
