Question - There doesn't seem to be any option for the free trial when adding Options, so what the hell do I do? I want to go with the 6-month payment plan for XIV as I intend to be playing for a while, and you save about $6 or $7 by doing so. I don't really want to get billed right away either though when I have a freaking free trial period.

Ok, first off just go through with registering it without buying any Crysta. If you read the OP, you'd see that the very first line says that they give you enough Crysta for the first month with one character plus you won't be billed for anything. After you have it all registered, then you can decide how you want to work the rest out...you'll have a month to do so why sweat it now?

If you read the OP you'll see how the billing works. You pay for Crysta that you HAVE to be billed for immediately. So if you don't want to be billed, don't buy any until its close to your month being up, which is Oct 22nd if you register today.

I registered the game, but I can't make a character unless I add an option right? And it asks me what kind of billing... I want to go with the 6-month plan. What I'm confused about, is if it will bill me right away, or late October after my free trial is done.


EDIT: WTF my Crysta Paybook says I have no Crysta.... I entered my FFXIV code and it says on my service accounts "FINAL FANTASY XIV - Windows(R) Sep. 22, 2010"

I don't think you need to add an option. But I am unsure about that.

I'm not liking this that I have to remember every month to buy more crysta. Also... What if you forget to buy crysta before the month is up?

For example, if you reactivate two Character Options (each costing $3 per 30 days) on the 28th day of a 30-day subscription period, you will immediately be charged $2, and the usual $6 in recurring charges will begin two days later as part of your recurring subscription fees.


^ administrative fees now? What the hell, they didn't do this with POL and XI.

Yes, you add ONE option for a character, otherwise your account will have no character.

I am not aware of one but I have not tried all the different payment options so maybe there is. I kind of doubt it since you need to supply your SE account with Crysta. I imagine they might email you around the time of your accounts billing cycle.

Hope so. I just don't want to go through hell trying to reactivate my account if I miss a payment. Why can't we just go back to the old way?

Right off the bat this seems as tho it may be leading into the possibility for in-game microtransactions. I hate M$ pts and I can't say that I'm very enthusiastic about buying another form of fake money. At least the numbers work out logistically so you're not left with some random amount you'll never be able to use... depending upon the pricing SE uses for subscriptions and/or in-game transactions.

The Europeans have it worse when you look at how much they are paying US for their fee. The Crysta doesn't add up the same according to my calculations. I see SE "adjusting" that in the future or losing subscribers over it.

I hope they just get rid of it, and allow up to pay it with our CCs, and not just buy crysta every month or so...

I don't see this happening because that would be one gd big overhaul of the system. They want the payment business totally out of their hands after what happened in XI with accounts being stolen. (Which I found out today that mine was stolen a couple months ago and I never even noticed! lolololol)

How does that make it harder to steal your FFXIV account? If they have a third party do the payment, that's just the payment info, you still have to log in with your SE account info...

Its not so much about stealing the account but about people freaking out about the person stealing it possibly getting access to your credit card. They were inundated with people calling about cc worries and such. Plus add to that people complaining about how they billed, getting billed for more than they thought they should (which usually turned out to be a partial month plus another month or they bought a security token, etc.), and other shit which totally turned SE off to being the main biller. This way if you have an issue, you get in touch with another company and not them.

PayPal is the way to go since many, many merchants use the system and it's one of the most secure around.
