If you have an Android smartphone, I highly recommend paying the measly $1 for this app, as it not only gives you an alarm function for favorite materials, but you can adjust that alarm to go off as much as 3 Eorzean hours in advance (8.75 minutes earth time), which gives you enough time to log-in if you are only trying to gather from a particular node (warning, this could just be my experience, but if you log-out after expending GP, you may not get back the full GP amount if you log back in)
