Description
Fishers are the harvesters of the realm's marine and freshwater animal resources. The goods they obtain from their catch place them in direct dealings with both culinarians and goldsmiths.
Be it from the shore of a sea, the bank of a river, or the deck of a boat, Eorzea's anglers must constantly account for a wide range of factors to optimize their success, including season, time, place, tools, and bait. In addition, the sometimes perilous nature of desirable fishing holes, be they on or offshore, above or below ground, prompts many fishers to employ the protection of more combat-oriented professions. The primary tool of the fisher is the fishing rod.

I really hope that fishing in ffxiv is nothing like it is in ffxi.

It'd be awesome if we actually get to see the fish too when it's reeled in.

But seriously, can we have fishing boats this time, you know, like you promised back with CoP?

I really hope that fishing in ffxiv is nothing like it is in ffxi.

Well now fishing has been included in the latest beta and it is not like in FFXI. There are two ways to fish... regular fishing and spearfishing. Regular fishing is the type that looks most like fishing in FFXI but it is a game of hot and cold like the other DoL's main gathering method. You cast your line... wait for a bite and then you "jig the rod". If you are lucky the fish will bite, if not you will have to jig another direction (the hot and cold part).

Spearfishing is finding a "fishing spot" and then starting. There is no minigame... just a random yes or no.
