  • Hypothetical new whm spell

    I was thinking about ways that whm could do something unique from and clearly superior to other healing-capable jobs and came up with this idea.

    Soul Ward, Enhancing Magic, 60 mp, 10 minute duration, 10 minute recast
    Shields the target from lethal damage.

    Either 1) damage that would reduce the targeted player's hp to 0 instead clears the buff and reduces it to 1 instead, or 2) whenever a player's hp reaches 0 the buff triggers and replaces itself with a status effect that grants immunity to KO for 5 seconds. Basically it's a safety net for those out-of-nowhere oneshot kills and times when a Cure V was half done casting but the target died. It gives a momentary window of grace for the someone to save the tank from imminent death.

    I think that would be better suited for PLD, as a Second Chance ability. As a spell to cast on others, it almost seems like it would windup being used more as an 'emergency shadow'

      Sounds like pure awesome, but what could make it better was if it cast incredibly quickly. I certainly wouldn't complain if WHM got it. They need a bone as the premier healers of the game.

      Question: would this also work against insta-Death spells? Sort of like some sort of super one-shot bardeath?

        I wouldn't really call this healing. It's protective, but it's more of a buff than it is healing.

        Now, if you wanted to make it healing, what about a 'precure'? Cast a spell on someone, and when their HP falls under X percentage, it automatically heals them for Y HP. Doesn't stop those cheap shots, but it does make it much easier to survive the hit after one nearly kills you. Or even "instant cure", a cure with an extremely low cast time, but high MP costs.

          Honestly I died a little inside from the title and having TM as the op...

          On topic tho that would be horribly exploited and broken.

            It's a little too good.

            What might be better is a WHM buff spell that increases maximum HP on a party member (sort of like what Drain II does for Dark Knights). Bonus if it triggers off of the much-neglected Healing Magic skill.

              Too good or not would depend on the total opportunity cost; MP, cast time, duration, recast time. If it's 100 MP per cast, costs 10 seconds, last 30 seconds, with recast of 2 minute, then it can't really be that abused.

              Max HP up would be a smaller change, though, but it would cheapen the value of existing HP gear. "lol you guys spent an evening getting BQ rings? What for?" is not something I want to hear when I recall the memories of that run to others. >_>p

              * * *

              I'd be all for an ability to cast Reraise on another party member. Not because anyone actually *need* that, but because I'm cheap and don't want to pay for RR items if I don't have to. >_>;

              More sensible probably would be separate Divine Veil with a reasonable recast duration or some sort of rapid fire ability for status ailment fixing spells. (Set cast time and recast of -na and Erase to 1 second, for 15 seconds duration, for example.)

              leaving no trace in the water.

                Consecrate: AoE buff (enhancing or divine, probably light-elemental). Prevents targets from being detected by undead, even through blood aggro. Highly random duration like other stealth spells.

                Peace: Single-target, divine. Clears the target's hate list (but not enmity totals) and unclaims it. (Obviously, most NMs would be immune to this one.)

                Sanctuary: Single-target, enhancing or divine. Target cannot engage mobs or take any aggressive actions (ones that would break stealth spells), but also cannot be targetted by aggressive actions. (AoE moves can still hit someone under this effect.) 30-second duration.

                Probably not all good ideas; just throwing them out there to fuel discussion and help us put together a good list. -- Pteryx

                  Redemption: Divine Magic; 75 mp 1min recast - If an enemy where to strike the target of this spell, the damage taken is doubled, while causing the enemy to take tripple damage by the next hit of this spell's target.

                  Holy Blessing: Divine Magic; 64 mp 45 second recast - If target were to damage from an enemy, that enemy is terrorized for a short period of time and the damage taken is halved.

                    Re: Hypothetical new whm spell

                    I think Soul Ward could work as an Auto-Reraise spell with a 30-45 second semi-weakened state of HP/MP down 50-60% (plus all the other weakened state downsides) when triggered.

                    And you obviously wouldn't be able to recieve the spell again until the weakness was gone (keep in mind invulnerability only lasts 5 seconds).

                    So basically you would be getting KO'd, but instead of leaving your party to die you would be buying at least 5 seconds to get things right and then would have to go through 30-45 seconds of survival before getting back to normal. And just to spice things up make it so the people who gets into Soul Ward state generates Invincible-like hate while weakened.

                      How about we can just cast Reraise on other people then? >_>

                      I am more into raising Max HP (where Cure V might actually help more) or the idea of something like immunity from status effects...or maybe even more things like amnesia-na or some stuff like that. Or single target party buffs in SS and Blink...just more unique protective measures i guess.

                      Recall and Repose was kinda meh to me..would like some new things that help the job be more fun instead of Cure, RaiseIII, and Regen.

                        Well if we're all making shit up, then how about

                        Body Boost! - Hastes all party members, gives them a Refresh and a Regen effect as well as a bar-all effect, which lasts 30 mins, costs 50MP, and puts RDMs out of business.

                          lol @ Feenicks, but seriously Repose is the shit... I don't know if you've actually used it much, but it has saved my poor WHM life MANY a time. On the subject of proposed spells I would love to see an Amnesia-na maybe...Memna >.> (Memory-Na? >.<)

                          Hell I don't know, but definitely need more than a ring that can do this... I would like to see a change to RIII to be honest. I think it should also be given the effect of lowering weakened time. Either that or a JA that would make the weakened effect wear off sooner on next Raise spell cast...I would be happy with either tbh.

                            Change Divine Viel to it's own JA kthx

                            being able to AoE status cure once every 10 minutes is long outdated.
