    Thank you for reminding me. This is the case with myself, but I... happen to have a few friends who are in a position to easily help me with this task. I suppose I take them for granted a bit too much >.>;

      Re: at low levels

The NM you have to fight has 2.5k HP and uses Poison 2, Bio and Virus. It is also immune to silence and is the DRK class so will be hitting you pretty hard. If you want those gloves at 25 you will be much better off looking on the AH or getting a friend at Lv40+ to kill it for you because being hit with all of that at once is pure pain.

Personally I don't find hate a problem because Regen is my default healing spell (unless we're fighting something dangerous) and Roast Mushrooms are my food of choice. They only need about 11 in cooking skill to be synthesized too so they are pretty cheap and easy to make

        Re: at low levels

Throwing in a few points to clarify some things I've seen in the thread.

The Myco cuffs are not 100% drop rate, it's moderately high, but it is not 100%, so if you go for them bring along more than one pop set.

The pilgrim tunic is usually up on the AH for a few thousand gil, available at level one, for all jobs, and provides the same hmp +1 we drool over on seers. So let's not encourage the thinking that there is no good pieces of gear pre-29. At those levels, with the limited mp pools mages have, any kind of hmp gear set on top of cookies provides for faster recovery and longer chains.

Bomb toss is most certainly a magical based tp move. Ask a Pld over 62 to use rampart. The stoneskin will absorb the dmg; it would not a purely physical based move. Cursed sphere, Toss, Aqua Ball, Fireball (lizards), Sandspin, Gastric Bomb--all of these low level moves are magical based. On a completely unrelated note, Cursed sphere when used by monsters is dark based. So barwater won't do a thing for it.

/tangent And this isn't directed at you Firewind, but your signature mentions Plds and coffee breaks. Please, do me a favor and slap a Pld using defender in exp parties. There's no reason to destroy your damage that badly for a tiny negation to damage taken. /tangent

There's one problem with that idea: Mycophile Cuffs are Rare/Ex. That being said, they're well worth the effort if you have a job high enough to beat it or know someone who does; they're the best handpiece for a long time for several mage jobs. -- Pteryx

            Re: at low levels

I didn't realise that those cuffs were rare/ex until after I posted.

Vandros: I would like to point out that you are wrong about Cursed Sphere. Poison is the Enfeebling Magic associated with the water element. cursed Sphere not only reduces the damage but lowers the changes of you being poisoned

Cursed Sphere - FFXIclopedia - a Wikia Gaming wiki

Water (Element) - FFXIclopedia - a Wikia Gaming wiki

If I remember right Blind is the enfeeb associated with the dark element:

Dark Element Magic Spells - FFXIclopedia - a Wikia Gaming wiki

Bio is also associated with Dark but isn't an enfeebling spell. It's a Dark elemental spell.

And my point about PLDs is a webcomic reference. it is also one of the reasons I give for always taking a PLD over a blink tank as a main when forming a party. PLDs are NOT damage dealers so why would they try to boost attack? They are there to be a brick wall while using their abilities and MP to build up hate. Really why should a PLD be expected to deal damage? It would be like expecting the WHM to pull or DRG to tank. It just defeats the whole purpose of the class.

Blink Tanks IMO are pretty much useless in an exp party pre-37 unless you're fighting Beetles, Crabs, Pugs or Flies. The vast majority of other mobs exp parties will target either use magic (Worms, early Gobbies), hit way too fast for shadows to be effective (Mandies, Bats) or just hit through the shadows (Most Giants and Worms) so Utusemi: Ichi is not enough for them to keep avoiding damage especially if they are the only tank. As soon as those shadows go down Blink Tanks live up to their name: Blink and the Tank's HP has gone.

There is also the issue of Blink Tanks not being able to hold hate. Most of the time I am not able to heal as effectively as I would like because Blink Tanks simply cannot build up and hold hate quickly without SATA or skillchaining and frankly very few parties do skillchain and I have only ever seen one Blink Tank actually co-operate with the THF so that she could SATA. But then when the Blink Tank has hate the shadows rarely stay up for long and if they got hate from SATA it becomes almost impossible to get the hate off them before I run out of MP or they die. In both cases i can't heal the party effectively because Blink tanks cannot hold hate pre Elemental Wheel: Ni and Utusemi: Ni spells.

PLDs also help a lot with MP efficiency. Since once they hit 30 and unlock Sentinel are rarely have to worry about them taking a lot damage, especially if they sub RDM or WAR. I usually only have to spend the 15MP on using regen one or twice on the PLD and I can sit back and relax while tossing out some buffs and enfeebs to help out the RDM. If the DDs do their job well then the mob usually dies before the PLD takes enough damage to dent my MP. It's only when something goes seriously wrong I find myself using up enough MP to warrant skipping my mushrooms and popping a juice or cookie to rest instead of just resting when cures aren't needed.

I'm not denying that Blink Tanks are useful post-37 (I'm mainly talking about pre-37). There are plenty of monsters that deal huge chunks of damage in a single hit that would crush a PLD but shadows would just block with no damage. It's just as a healer, the person whose life depends on the tank the most I'd rather have the reliable PLD that CAN hold hate then the squishy Blink Tank that gets someone killed (usually me or him/herself) due to being unable to hold hate.

The BLU spell Cursed Sphere is not the same as the mob TP move Cursed Sphere. Category:Flies - FFXIclopedia - a Wikia Gaming wiki lists it as Dark, and there's also these tests.
