  • Whm Damage Dealer?

I was recently looking up White Mage equipment and noticed we have alot of equipment which could be used to boost STR ACC and attack so i decided to make a WHM DD setup. Heres what i got:

    Job: WHM/NIN
    1st Weapon: Sea Robber Cudgel
    2nd Weapon: Seawolf Cudgel
    Head: Optical Hat
    Body: Reverend Mail
    Back: Royal Army Mantle
    Neck: Peacock Charm
Hands: Blessed Mitts (Healer’s Mitts for WS)
    Waist: Potent Belt
    Ear 1: Triumph Earring
    Ear 2: Triumph Earring
    Ring 1:Woodsman/Sniper
    Ring 2: Woodsman/Sniper
    Legs: Blessed Trousers
    Feet: Blessed Pumps

    Stats: Strength+17, Accuracy+58, Attack+10

If you have any better ideas for equipment which could be used in a slot feel free to suggest it!
Plus are there any situations this setup could be used?

no one will invite WHM to DD in a pickup PT but if your in a static and they say you try it, i sat give it a shot, you dont see RDM meleeing but we were made to melee and cast magic

Imagine if you trio with this setup at Lv.75: THF, WHM, and DRG.
      • THF/NIN tanks (using SA for spike damage when someone else turns the monster).
      • DRG/WHM cures via Healing Breath.
      • WHM/BLM takes care of status effects, buffs, and enfeebs. Restore the party's MP via the Moonlight WS.
      Everyone is a DD.

      yet not a mote of dust is stirred;
Moonlight pierces the depths of the pond,
leaving no trace in the water.

Morgenstern (once latent is unlocked) is the best club.

and I'd probably use a brass jadagna or a purg mace as the second hand over the other cudgel (pick the one you need at the time) over dualing them, if you don't have a morgenstern.

Would be better off with Suppanomimi and Brutal Earring as well if you have the option.

                Re: Whm Damage Dealer?

I had a friend who was a melee WHM. WHM/NIN, they loaded up on haste EQ, they managed to actually cap out their haste, which also made them an awesome tank.

Mjollnr+Kraken Club is amazing to watch at work, especially if Mob TP isn't that big a deal. So many Hexa Strikes...

He actually managed to outparse very well equiped DRKs and THFs and other melees in the party, although these were on coffer mobs, and not in an EXP party. He did say that he'd only been outparsed once or twice in an EXP party though... by a THF who has Mandau (and other awesome equipment, another person I knew, although not as well as the WHM)

Of course, this was back in the day of sky weapons (where I'm pretty sure he switched to a Mogernstern or whatever in the off hand, although he was a damn fine melee in KRT too, because of all that blunt damage. I have no idea how well he's been keeping up since the release of TAU.

But to answer your question, yes, it is possible for a WHM to make a damn fine melee with the right equipment. Hammers, hammers, hammers!

I tank in Skill up pts and other pts like when we go to find keys for people.
WHM/NIN @75 is a heavy DD. Shadows plus stoneskin and blink even helps alot. Only trouble I have is keeping my mp up. When I go in melee mode I go for no MP boosting equips but get equips that boost str, agil, & dex. I like to pretend I'm a fake NIN .

The best use for this is in soloing. I would use /equip macros to swap it in when you're meleeing, and swap it out when you're not. Not sure what level you want to use this, but I'm assuming it's high level since you show Optical Hat (lvl70) and lvl68 weapons, even though your character info says whm39.

I really wouldn't try using this in an EXP party. Think of it this way.... Would you invite a War/Whm to be main healer in your party? Don't think so. Well, likewise, people aren't going to be looking for a DD WHM. Aside from the fact you won't get invites as a DD, you'll always be at a disadvantage. You'll always be lacking in Def, HP, Str, Dex, and Agi compared to the traditional DD's, although you can get around the lack of Def & HP by using stoneskin & utsusemi. Sure, you can boost your stats, but the real DDs will be boosting theirs too. Bottom line is, there are better DD's and those ones will get the invites.

However it is probably OK in something like an LS event, especially with with an alliance, where there are others to take care of healing. Another place where DD mages are readily acceptable is in skillup parties, particularly alliances. Even if your skill is capped, it can be alot of fun, and you'll get some EXP or Merits. I use Rdm/Nin for alot of soloing, and melee alot in LS events, but I would never expect to melee in an EXP party. This brings back a memory of doing a mission once, where the WHM was melee'ing instead of healing and people ended up dying. People were upset and some refused to do missions with him after that. So make sure the healing role is covered before trying to DD.

As for equipment suggestion, you might want to consider something like Ruby Rings instead of Woodsman or Sniper, so you don't lose Def or Eva. You might also want to seriously look at boosting Dex, since that is the stat that WHM lacks the most, when compared to DD's (compare War/Nin to Whm/Nin here: http://www.datasync.com/%7Edsmith/FFXIStats/ and you will see what I mean).

That doesn't sound like enough attack to me, especially if you're subbing NIN (which means no passive attack boost traits and no Berserk).

If you don't have Suppa/Brutal, then you could use two Merman's Earring (+6 attack each) for TP. Substitute Swordbelt +1 in place of Potent Belt, since you've got a good amount of acc. Those changes combined would bring you to: STR+10, Acc+50, Attack+34.

Since Club skill is B+ for WHM, you're probably going to be eating Sushi even with club merits. So losing a little bit of acc to get a good bit of attack is worth it.
