Has anyone tested the potency of Banish spells when using Water/Neptune's Staff as opposed to Light/Apollo's Staff? I wasn't sure because I hadn't done my own testing yet. My theory is that the MND and Divine Magic boost could equal or surpass the hidden elemental bonus in this particular case.

Re: Banish Potency : Light Staff vs. Water Staff
Divine Magic Skill only effects resists, and you shouldn't be using banish on anything that can resist it anyway because then it's just a waste of MP. 5 MND is roughly equivilant (in terms of damage) to 2.5 Magic Attack Bonus. The hidden effect of the Light Staff gives 10% Magic Attack Bonus on light spells, and the HQ gives 15%. I'll let you do the math.
Interesting, though, that they put that on a water staff when their are no water-based divine spells :/ but then again, this is SE.
EDIT: Also, Magic Skill is a touchy subject anyway - Everyone knows it affects magic accuracy, but by how much people don't know. The Elemental Staves are believed to give +10/+15 Magic Accuracy to the respective spells, and people aren't sure how much skill = magic accuracy. Some people say that 1 Skill = 1 Accuracy, while others belive, like melee weapons, 1 skill = 2 accuracy. If this is the case, Water/Neptune's Staff would be better for resists, but would 10(or 5) Magic Accuracy be worth giving up 10(or 15) Magic Attack?
As a BLM I always nuke with the corresponding elemental staff, owning the whole set. I don't get resists that often, but even if I did, no way in hell would I give up a gaurenteed 10 MAB for a possible 10 Magic Accuracy.Last edited by Neomage; 01-31-2007, 06:43 AM.Originally posted by EllipsesReally, it's just like pretty much every question about this game that begins with "Why."
