I can definitely see RDM/NIN soloing this with little trouble. :3 Sucks for every other job tho!
I did managed to get Paralyze and Slow to stick easily probably due to being /SCH (and remembering to bring my elemental staves for once) though silence didn't stick and I can't remember if I saw a message saying if repose stuck or not.

And you usually don't have the time to put up barspells with most -ga spells. By the time you've gotten into range and selected the right spell the -ga spell has probably gone off (especially if it's a RDM mob), someone interupted it (unlikely against a BLM mob) or a good BLU/BLM/DRK spotted it and stunned it. It's why I just tend to shrug and select Curaga instead .

I've seen a RDM/NIN essentially solo this, I know i wasn't much help when I got help from a RDM/NIN friend for it. I think a properly geared WHM/NIN would stand a decent chance at soloing it. It all depends on the skill of the WHM and if he/she bought enough Yag Drinks and Mulsum. BST probably could if it took either enough jugs or sent wave after wave of bats after the NM and SMN can solo it by Carby kiting though it will take a long, long time.

These are Tier 3 ga nukes he's doing. There was plenty of time to put up barspells and I did when I wasn't in the middle of a song The bar-whatever would help a RDM survive the nukes is another reason rdm could solo this with little mishap if they know what they are doing.

I dunno if SAM/NIN could solo without a little support but it probably could be done. :3 Maybe with items for just-in-case. I think the wiki mentions a SAM/NIN fighting it with the 50ish WHM that needed it and winning.
We know the characters aren't real, we just don't care. :3

Well I was standing at the maximum possible range and I had to spot the casting through the party's damage taken spam so it probably worked out better that you were doing it even though my enhancing is capped. RDM has a higher enhancing skill so they should have no issues with Barspells at all. As a matter of fact I'd much rather RDMs put up their own barspells for that very reason. If the party is taking less damage then I don't have to take hate by bringing out the big cures.

Not too sure about SAM/NIN soloing it. I have done the RDM AF3 fights with a SAM before though. First was duo'd me as a 66WHM/SMN and my friend who needed the pimp hat as a 75SAM/NIN (SC Fusion + Banish III put the Ghost NM down to 45% in one hit) and the second NM was trio'd with the third as a 74BLU/NIN to stun the statue's AoE's.

I think a decent self SC fusion would do some nice damage as a SAM/NIN but I'm not 100% sure if you can Third Eye D.Death in case Shadows go down during the 2 hour or the D.Death spam. SAM definitely has the ability to duo the NM with a bit of healing support though .

Actually, -ga damage would have been reduced if you were standing in range, since it's split between the people it hits. You can brag about capped skills when you're 75.

Anyway, it can be solo'd. It's not cake. BST's are cool.

It's not split evenly though. Although you reduce the odds of getting one-shotted quite a bit, the more people you add, the more damage is being taken in total (i.e. the way the damage is reduced, if you have 3 people, the sum of the damage taken by all 3 is still greater than if 1 person had taken the nuke.)

What Armando said. I'm fairly sure that the damage isn't split exactly evenly because if i remember right it takes into account resistances and the like. I know I've been hit for 2 by a bomb toss while the rest of the party was hit for 200+ before.

That's not a spell. Anyway, they're right. I had 1000 Needles on the brain. Probably because I was helping with a Sandy 6-1 fight with 4 of us a couple of days ago.

Damage splitting is specific to -ga's (and 1000 Needles but that's a different case...). Bomb Toss, Cursed Sphere, etc don't split damage. The way the damage is split doesn't take into account resistances, it's a fixed formula (damage is multiplied by 0.90 - 0.05T where T is the number of targets...caps at 10 people for 40%):
                  1 person: 100% - 1000 damage
                  2 people: 80% - 800 damage (1600 total, 600 difference)
                  3 people: 75% - 750 damage (2250 total, 650 difference)
                  4 people: 70% - 700 damage (2800 total, 550 difference)
                  5 people: 65% - 650 damage (3250 total, 450 difference)
                  6 people: 60% - 600 damage (3600 total, 350 difference)
                  7 people: 55% - 550 damage (3850 total, 250 difference)
                  8 people: 50% - 500 damage (4000 total, 150 difference)
                  9 people: 45% - 450 damage (4050 total, 50 difference)
                  10 people: 40% - 400 damage (4000 total, -50 difference)

So yes, while you are reducing the damage per person, and while there is a big drop between 1 person taking full damage and 2 people splitting it, the damage done in total still gets bigger the more people you throw in, and all that damage has to get healed somehow. If the nuke has a risk of one-shotting people, it's better to have 2 people split it than 1 person take it and die, but beyond that, you generally want as few people as possible splitting the nuke's damage.
