Re: 7/24/06 Update - What's in it for WHM?

Tarus actually get the best Convert ratio of all if they try. I plotted it out once and found that with maxed merits and optimal gear/food, Tarutaru RDMs can get something like 1200HP/MP.

Doesn't really matter, though. Convert ratio isn't terribly important at 75 for HNM situations mostly because you rarely need to Convert. If your RDMs are forced to Convert it'd better because of emergencies. I'll probably drop down to about 900HP and 1000MP at level 75 with RDM for HNM purposes. Stats and skill bonuses become much more important at that point than raw Convert potential.

OK I might as well weigh in now that the update is out..

Martyr & Devotion - These were the two rumored abilities that WHM would be getting. I wasn't too excited about them before, and I'm still not too excited. I can see some uses for Devotion though - it seems like Convert Lite, only it gives MP to everyone. If it gives MP to you as well, it's at least a decent ability to have since you can just toss a Regen 3 on and bust this one out to help others in your party. If it doesn't give you MP as well it's a pointless ability for a level 75 to have, particularly in TP burn parties.

Protectra/Shellra V - I did a test on these to see how much better they were than P/S IV - the difference is negligible, about 5 more defense for P5 and I'm still unsure about S5.. that can probably get stronger with added merits though.

MY Overall Score : C- , especially since some of the stuff that other jobs got is just insane (particularly BLM, WAR, MNK, DRK and THF).

        particularly in TP burn parties.
Perhaps its incentive to join regular parties?

I can certainly see uses for Devotion, I think it should help me a lot when doing missions and other events with my ls. I think I'm gonna focus on meriting that and Protectra V.
Protectra is nice for partying with plds I think, perhaps it will allow them to take off some def gear for extra attack, devotion could be useful for them too.

I think it's kinda sad that everyone seems obsessed with burn parties these days, there is other stuff to do in game.

Yea.. with enough incentive you can make a cow fly, this might just be a small step. Who knows.

Why do I get the feeling you already tried synthing a Flying Sheep +1 using Wild Sheeps and some stacks of fireworks?

Hey, getting them to fly is the easy part it's the landing that's tricky.

Actually, I'm using burn parties for three very particular goals:

                    - to merit my Cure Cast Speed and MP
                    - to improve my playing speed (I'm very active in Dynamis and I'm working on taking RDM to 75, so this is an ESSENTIAL skill to work on)
                    - the farming... it's just ridiculous how much money you can make collecting items and crystals, not to mention the money you save..
