Oh I'm excited and quite pleased with what we got. I was just thinking one or the other with regards to the hp / mp thing and some additional mysterious sounding ability is all.

Re: 7/24/06 Update - What's in it for WHM?

I'm a little sore, did RDM get Dia III and we got passed up for it? Doesn't make much sense.

As far as cures, yeah I think we have enough of them too. I don't need Curaga V. I don't even need Curaga IV. Maybe I'm just lucky. I'd like Erase II, takes more more than one negative status, also, removes paralyze, poison, etc etc. Rather like...what's the old spell....esuna?

On a new note, I now need to put "<White Mage><Yes Please> <Apir> <Pet> <No Thanks!> on my search comment. I don't mind being able to fill the PLD's MP tank, he can't stop to rest like I can, but every time some punk little RDM *cough cough* comes up to me snapping about how I ought to be filling his MP tank "Because 40 of my MP is worth 160 of yours." I'm going to have to recant my hippocratic oath.

          EDIT:

And yes, I have had redmages tell me that if WHM gets a MP shring ability, I should give them my MP so they don't have to convert.

Yes, it was inspired by the Simpsons

Re: 7/24/06 Update - What's in it for WHM?

Now, now... no more glum faces about this. We're not sure what Martyr and Devotion do yet. Even if they do what we currently think they do, that does mean they will suck.

Another thought could be that Martyr gives all our hp and mp (1 hp remains for living purposes) to another player. That could be useful in emergency situations. Or Martyr could be that activating it puts all current hate on you and removes it from other players. Then, after you are brutally slaughtered in ways that would make Altana cry for mercy, hate is reset. Martyr-dom at its best.

Devotion on the other hand could be a damage boost to divine magic or even a refresh-faster mp regain. Nobody will really know for a while yet, at least until the data mining reports come in.

Well, Dia is at its fundamental level an enfeeble, and Red Mages are the masters of enfeebling (or should be).

                They are...

I can't get Silence to stick worth a hang to things that redmages 5 levels below me can stick silence to reliably.

Dia for some reason has always seemed a very 'whitemage' spell to me, though. Maybe it isnt' as illogical as I think it is, but still. I would like whitemage to at least GET Dia III, even if it's at a level penalty to RDM (higher level).

On another note, lest I be seen as 'criticising' the new update....I would 'mind' having to refull other magely jobs like RDM or BLM that simply don't want to /heal.

But the idea of being able to tank up the PLD with a wave of my magic wand...that appeals to me. Maybe because I have a natural affection of PLDs, or because their hMP seems to be ungodly low.

I hope these aren't meant as fixes to WHM because they are only available at lvl 75, after spending merit points. As someone already mentioned it's not going to help him get chosen vs. a RDM for xp PT's no matter how cool the abilities.

You do know RDM starts with Dia scroll as their first spell right? But then again I wouldn't mind WHM having DiaIII, although I would love having Protect and Shell V as RDM

Why are you so selfish? If WHM gets an ability to make MP last longer for other jobs then it's a good thing. Imagine if RDM/BRDs complained about helping other mages with Refresh/Ballad, and many WHM take Refresh for granted and are not even polite (referring to your post about sneak and invis) when they spam "Refresh! Refresh! Refresh!" even though they are almost at full MP.

R1 got lot less costly on the XP side of things

we did get protectra v and shellra v to blow merits on

i'll hold judgment on the others until i can get back in the game and check the description on the merit point thing

And with a 75 whm in your party you probably will get Protect and Shell V.

You think it's bad now? Wait until the pld is screaming at the whm to "mp bomb" him and the whm is yelling back, "No MP!". RDM, COR, & BRD are going to be in a world of hurt...

I wouldn't mind RDM having them either. To use your own argument, that's Enhancing Magic, and between Phlanix (however), En-spells, Refresh, RDM has a corner on that market too. Besides, having a second high-tier protect in the party can be a GOOD thing.

My first thing is, Refesh/Ballad is a luxury, not a requirement. When I went through the 50's on Midgard, there wasn't a RDM to be found, they were all on /anon (something to do with an update, I remember), and BRDs were in short supply. Until my late 50's, early 60s, I had maybe three parties that had a refresher class. My play style is built around this, it's why I devote myself to hMP, not raw MP.

If the RDM skips refreshing me, I honestly might not even notice. I know there are parties where I haven't. PLD notices the absence LONG before I do.

As to being 'selfish' with my MP, yes, I rather am. If there is a way to 'control' the amount of MP given out, I wouldn't at all mind giving the RDM 40 MP to refresh me with.

On the other hand, knowing how SE does these things, I bet it's not "enter a number" but more like a siphoning act...MP flows out of the WHM into whatever job they're 'touching off' either until that job's MP pool is full, or the WHM runs out of MP. In that case, I would likely use that job ability much less.

Remember, it's not just ME that needs my MP, it's my tank, it's my melees that the RDM doesn't haste (Why are MOST, if not quite all, RDM's allergic to haste, anyway?), it's the aforementioned protects and shells and bar-elements that don't get put up because the RDM doesn't have them....

Bottom line, everyone needs MP, me included.

Oh and about the Sneak issue...I'm not selfish with it. I'm MORE than happy to sneak anyone who lets me know they need it.

Just because I don't do it automatically doesn't mean I'm selfish.

Kinda like how not handing out money to everyone you see doesn't make you selfish.

Looks like giving up MP to the Red Mage isn't an issue.

According to the data mines you give up HP to give a member MP! (^_^)b
