Usually have issues with it only when a BLM pulls hate and gets Breakga cast at them, but it happens enough to be worth the extra insurance against Petrification (I also like to sub /RDM at such fights to increase my chance of breaking out of petrification early so I can Stona people).

Here's the crux of the issue! It's not that mages don't know to stand back, it's that BLMs like to nuke tons and/or tanks that can't keep hate well.

I've never met a mage past level 15 that didn't know to stand out of AoE range. Maybe I'm just lucky.

Awww.. come on... the best part of playing PLD is watching DD doing the rubber-band run...

Blm gets hate, mob heads for blm, DD chase mob, I provoke/cure/flash, mob turns, mob heads for me, DD chase mob... rinse and repeat....

So you're saying there are tanks who don't chase the mob with the rest of the melee? Pfff, next you'll tell me I can buy distilled water from NPCs.

It's true! I read about it once. Personally, I can't be bothered to go all the way to an NPC, so I'm happy to pay 300x the NPC price at the AH.

Helping people is one of the main things I enjoy about being a WHM too. Every time I run back into town after a day of leveling or adventuring, I watch for lowbies that might need Cure or Protect. I don't do it for all the "Thank yous," but it gives me warm fuzzies to hear it anyway. Yesterday I saved a lvl 2 THF from being annihilated by a Savannah Rarab. Afterward, he was like "Thank you so much! I forgot to /check it!" I loled, then told him he'd better remember to /check from now on. >.<
