Personally, I wish I could copy-paste the WHM equippable part of Reverend Mail onto this item. I would never be out of it if I could.

On the other hand, look at the abyss curiass...I would do unspeakable things to have one of those on my WHM.

Revrend mail...meh...I'll think about it.

I picked up my Holy Breastplate right at 40, but I only used it in parties as part of my Benediction macro. It made me feel better about the hits I was about to receive.

When I hit 58, I replaced that slot in my Benediction macro with the Healer's Briault for the -Enmity, and again at 70 with the Blessed Briault for the same reason.

I used it for soloing until 68 when I got the Noble's Tunic. The Refresh effect was much more useful than the additional 5 Defense.

Nowadays, I only use the Holy Breastplate during capped mission runs (Phomiuna Aquaducts, Garrisons, etc.) where the hate control is generally less reliable and the battles are a bit more unpredictable.

I also got my breastplate at 40, and its still sitting in storage now for the aquaduct runs and 40cap stuff! I didn't replace it until I got AF, and it stood me in good stead until then!

There are very few body pieces that give WHM any decent stats boosts around that level, so this was a godsend. I have concentrated in fast mp rather than bulk mp since about level 30 - going for equipment that would give refresh rather than increases in mp, especially where there was a corresponding drop in hp involved!

Incidentally, for Zagex, get hold of the Capricornus Subligar from the aquaducts - its a very nice match for the breastplate and another 23 def on top! WHM tank ftw!! Pity the Nimbus doublet is such a duff piece for WHM though - it would have been much nicer for both WHM and SMN if it had refresh instead of regen

I'm a big fan of the Divine or Holy breastplate, it looks really cool and its as good as defense gets at that lvl and many lvls after.

From my perception the whm is the ultimate and last line of defense against the enemy mob for the entire party. Many will say stuff like "theoretically you wont get hit, so you don't need it" but thats just a bunch of malarkey. Everyone and their grandma that plays this game knows well that alot of people either have crappy days playing, maybe drunk when they play, barely paying attention oftenly while they play, are crappy, etc etc..., and these factors exist in gameplay and should be considered like a whitemage creedo " I as a whm will cover the @sses of other players when they slip".

Ultimately it comes down to this, theoretically you WILL GET HIT EVENTUALLY, and there is a reall good chance that between 40-50 that you will too, too many ninjas out there and not enouph palladins. Really you should go ahead and put yourself in situations to get hit if it saves your entire party and often you don't see it coming until it is almost going to hit, thats why whm defense, stoneskin, blink, rr, are so darn essential for us whities.

With this type of mentality I have saved my teams countless times, if anyone dies in my team its going to me and I can just pop right back up with rr anyway. If I get hate with my breastplate-stoneskin-blink I can take more direct hits then almost any other job before I kick the bucket, this gives plenty of time for the tank to take back the hate.

I have recently put my crows jupon away and put the divine back on. 2 lvls till brialt.
