Well, you seem to have a very good feel for what you need to do already, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. Dunes parties have always been kinda hit or miss as far as effectiveness goes.

http://ffxi.somepage.com/ is a great source for finding any item in FFXI, including where to buy it if it's sold, or how to make it if it isn't. Or camp it if it's a drop.

i found out where to get them... im using a bronze sword but im about to synthesis a xiphos for myself hoping my crystal wont break... an how come evrytime i want a fire crystal i can only get it in parties

Fire Crystals drop from Orcs. Certain Goblins, Birds, and several other variety of mobs. You must not be fighting the right kind. Try around Sandoria.

In Fort Ghelsba, all of the orcs (provided they still give you exp) should drop Fire Crystals. Lizards too. You'll also get valuable Dark Crystals from the Fungars in there. It's good times.

Sounds like you need signet casted on you. Go to a gate gaurd, which is an NPC right near gates to ronfaure with "T.K." at the end of their name, talk to him, and ask for signet. This will enable crystals to drop from monsters that give exp.

earth because you're killing worms/beetles and dark because you're killing funguars. orcs can't drop either of those ._.
