  • An interesting Question

I am current Duoing with a Brd for Fun. She is the tank and I am the DD. (I know it's unorthadox, but were having fun) She is going as Brd/nin and stacking High evation gear. I am thinking about doing /pld or /sam and Augmenting my Str / ATT.

I all ready know that I should aim for an O-hat and a suit of reverend Mail. But what other gear would be good to help me out? Is there a better (non-Kraken) DD club then the Darksteel Maul?

What Subjob would be better or what I am wanting? /pld for the Auto Refresh, str increase and + def and Increased MP. /Sam for the Str and for Meditate (more hexa-strike yes please!) or just stick with my usuall Subs of Blm or Smn? Or would even Warrior be a good choice?

I know that /nin might be better then any of those. but I dont like the ninja job and want to avoid lvling it at all costs. Dual weilding doesn't impress me.

    Thanks for your help, also if this has all ready been talked about, can i get a link for it? The search function wasn't very helpfull ; ;

    Re: An interesting Question

I'm really interested in /pld myself. Especially because the new shield job trait is - i think - lvl 35. So you'll be getting more TP that way if you are getting hit (if you are getting hit). Plus, autorefresh on a melee is awesome. I don't know how well it works yet though, as I've been focusing on getting my nobles, not leveling PLD.

      Re: An interesting Question

If you are going DD then sub nin will give you 2 DS maul, more attack and haste will give you more faster tp gain. But seems the brd is prolly not going to sing ballad, then you need to find a way to refresh your mp. If the purpose of subbing pld is for the auto refresh, I would sub smn for mp boost also, pld really offer no other spells or traits that helps you in DD.

        Re: Damage clubs
Inexpensive option: Upgrade to Darksteel Maul+1
Expensive option: Upgrade to Purgatory Mace
Extremely expensive option: Upgrade to Mjollnir

        Re: subs
For more damage, sub NIN or DRG (don't laugh!).
/NIN: Slight increase in speed from Dual Wield II, plus Utsusemi to survive when you have to heal and get aggro.
/DRG: Wyvern Earring gives you 5% Haste, Jump gives you an extra attack, High Jump lets you shed some enmity when you have to cure or grab hate with Hexastrike. I think there's a cape that gives some Haste when using /DRG too, but can't remember offhand.

Another option would be to find a nice beefy staff like a kinkibo or a Kirin's Pole and use Spirit Taker to replenish MP. Kirin's Pole is nice because it gives a lot of MND, which gives you better results from Spirit Taker. This hurts your damage output, but increases your MP recovery rate significantly unless you're fighting IT enemies (which I doubt you are).

          Re: An interesting Question

In this situation I would definately advise getting a nice staff and using spirit taker - sure you can't make light with it, and sure it does about 1/3 of the damage of a hexa strike onto an IT... but the MP recovered will speed up your fights and less downtime = more exp ^^

Failing that... I subbed WAR for double attack, but I would have subbed had I had it fully levelled, or even just to 25 for DW2... then pile on the STR gear and away you go.

Like I had said, I am going to avoid lvling nin at all costs. I dont like Dual Wield. I hadn't considered /drg, but it sounds interesting. It shouldn't be that Different from /sam I'll give it a try, Thank you

              Re: An interesting Question

I would personally use Martial Wand in the offhand if subbing /nin for the TP Bonus trait. When you WS it treats the strength of the WS as if you have 100% more TP. eg if you WS at 100%, it acts like you did it at 200% etc. Can really help get in some extra crits on Hexa or bump up the damage of Black Halo if you're using it to SC. The damage output is right up there with DS maul in my opinion.
