Interesting... I think you guys should all go to the Titan server... So far, ever since I've started, I haven't gotten many PL's and most people I play with are nice. I've never had a bad party, even with PL'ers. WHen there was a new person, and they had a PL, they did their job nicely even after the PL left. And once i had two new guys in our party that i had made and after I told them what they should be doing (voking, tanking) they listened and did their jobs pretty well. Overall I think that Powerlevelling hasn't gone too bad on our server...
The only had two PL parties in my entire time playing. One was one of the party members second character, the other was the wife of a party member. And both times they only helped if the WHM was out of MP or we pulled a bad mob.
But I besides that I have not had any parties with a PL in it. The parties I have been in have done well without one and I can't complain. But I have been known to help some low level players outside the town if I am farming or something.
You know what, you can kiss my...

This is the reason why i only party with people that i know if I'm going to have a PL. I know that most of them have been playing for awhile and know how each jobs plays somewhat. Sure they might not know every little detail about it at the time, but they have an idea. If I do have a PL, my parties will never have a whm. We go with 6 DD's and have a blast.

I recently came back to the game after a 2 year hiatus and I have to say the amount which a lot of people rely on Powerlevelling is astounding. I try to stay away from PLs because (even though I used to play and I think I have a pretty good grasp on what my role is in a PT regardless of my job) all it will do is rush me through levels and make my playstyle rusty.
Yes, you can blow through levels fast (a-la make it through the dunes grind in one day) ... so maybe i'm weird, but I enjoy working for my accomplishments. I have recently fallen in love with Carpenter's Landing as an alternative to the dunes and have levelled several jobs there with a duo or trio in lieu of suffering through the dunes. It's just as challenging and the reward when I hit level 20 is fulfilling
At the moment I'm working on BLU, and I'm proud to say that I have soloed or duod the ENTIRE way with no powerlevelling (i just hit 26 this afternoon), and I plan on it staying that way hehe.
Some people are just lazy though. They come from faster paced games and expect everything to be handed to them until they reach the be-all end-all game play at level 75 ... but I'd rather work my ass of to get there and be able to tell people of my accomplishments with pride.
I'm main job WHM, and even through the dunes and Qufim, y'know, if I see the party has a PL, I just ignore their existence and do what I should anyway. It seems like the PLs have often been PL'd, because half the time I did what they're supposed to be doing way before they did. *shrug* I considered them my backup healers. Did okay.
Still don't particularly like the concept of PL, though.
A new PC player and a new Xbox player are the same the problem is younger players. And not all new players are @$$holes. And PLing is redicules exspecialy wen i mage get PLed for example HP:1113 MP:229 WTF
If I do have a PL, my parties will never have a whm. We go with 6 DD's and have a blast.
I don't understand why most parties won't do this. If you are going to have a PL, why invite a WHM? They are just going to be bored and then gimped on healing skill (depending on how long they are PL'd). Plus, by including a WHM, you are taking away a main healer from another party that might actually need it!
I had to take my WHM back to the dunes to get from lvl 18-20, and the party I joined had a PL. I didn't know there was going to be a PL until I got to camp at the secret beach, so I decided to stay and suck it up and just get the exp. It was not the best way to get used to WHM again after being BLM for 36 lvls, so now I get to go to Qufim totally rusty on my WHM skills (but I'll probably get PL'd there too ).
Nibblonian: "You are the last hope of the universe."
Fry: "So I really am important? How I feel when I'm drunk is correct?"
Nibblonian: "Yes, except the Dave Matthews Band doesn't rock."'
After letting it sit idle for about three months, I decided to give my WHM a good days grind. I was halfway to 32, and thought if I could get and stick with reasonable parties, I should get to or really close to 36 in seven hours.
My luck began with getting a tell from a friend asking for a Raise, since we were both in Sauromogue. I said I'd help, but died from his stellar description skills, and a very unfortunate time for Sneak to drop. He got me and himself Raises, and then a Skink kicked me in the back of the head while weakened and killed me instantly. Warped back to Windurst, hour 1 has gone by just smoothly.
After a brief break, I head back out. Along my way, I got a tell asking if I wanted a party. We met in Port Jeuno and agreed to exp in the Citadel.
We begin by heading to camp the first right dead end at the bottom of the stairs (Y'know, where the Beetles spawn), and seem to do alright. The Taru died once, but I guess he couldn't help it and it kept the rest of us alive, and I died once, but they lived so I'd say I did my job right =^_^=. Overall XP doesn't seem too bad, and we have little problem handling the pops.
Then the THF decided we should move to the first Banishing Gate. Which I've never been to, and I don't have a map (I've since learned they can be bought in Jeuno). So after having to Invis the entire party and Sneak half, and then after getting someone to lead me there, we reach camp and resume.
The THF D/Cs occasionally, but nothing too major, and the Taru dies a couple more times, and I die once more, but overall the party seems smooth. Then the THF D/Cs and never returns. We continue without her, then the Taru goes afk unannounced. At this point, instead of seeking replacements, someone called in their LS and got a PL.
As soon as the PL gets here, he states in say "according to my ls, the NIN sucks and the WHM doesn't use cookies". This is the first time anyone has ever pointed out to me that I don't use cookies. As a WHM, I use exclusively Rolanberry Pie, and very VERY rarely do I ever find myself wishing MP came back to me faster while resting. And I've never heard a complaint about that.
Then the PL stated I was useless to the party now, and they should drop me. The party defended me up, down, and back again, and I knew I was doing a damn good job. While he was arguing with me, we were fighting and we was Fast Casting Cure III under all of my Cures (basically leaving me useful for Regen and Erase).
Then the PL stated WHM was a hard job and I'll get it eventually, I'm just new.
The only nice way to state what my response was is WTF.
I don't care what the number in my job states, I've been a White Mage as my primary job for a year and a half. It was the first job I took to the Dunes, first job I took to Qufim, first job I took to Kazham. Everything I've done in this game, I've done as a White Mage. And all along the way, from the Dunes to the Jungles, from strangers to friends, from noobs to people level 75 three times over, I've constantly been called one of the best White Mages several people on Siren have ever partied with.
I don't care if your Red Mage is level 73. I don't care what hot shot LS you're in, and I don't care what the hell they say about my choice in foods. You DON'T tell me I don't know the job I learned the hard way, through sweat, hardship, grunt work, death and deleveling, all in the sake of making sure the other five stand victorious and tall. I am a White Mage, and THAT is what I do for my living.
I told him off, slapped him, apologized for my party, and left. (I don't regret leaving the party. In the two hours I spent with them, I earned 1k xp. That doesn't bug me. What bugs me is that they would defend my talents, but ultimately wanted him around more than they wanted me). I was back in that exact same camp 20 minutes later with a new party, and they had added in a new Taru WHM, which I sent a tell to warning him about the PL. About an hour later the WHM and I think it was the DRG were sending me tells asking for a Raise, so I assume things went poorly for them.
My new party lasted about two hours (and I lost my life for them two more times, but it was of course just doing my job), and on my way back to Jeuno I must've somehow aggroed a Goblin Pathfinder because it's Tiger killed me when I was ten paces from the city. I swear that thing must've followed me for three minutes. I logged off with a positive gain of about 1,500 xp.
Oh yeah, that's close to level 36.
I think I'm gonna start putting {Garlaige Citadel} : X and PL: {No thanks} in my search comments.

A White Mage is still useful in a party being power leveled. There's still a lot of smaller things that can be done other than cure bombing, such as buffing, debuffing, erasing, and more.
Sounds to me that your party wasn't up to par with fighting in Garliege Citadel.
I stayed in Yhoatar Jungle until I was level 33 and then levelled from 33 - 35 in Garliege Citadel, now I'm in Crawler's Nest.
I havn't had any PL's past the Dunes I still cured and my party were really decent and they understood that I need to keep my Healing near the cap.
I've had a few bad experiences though but I think the majority all boils down to how well the players communicate and what jobs they have, I have much love for Ninja's they make my job alot easier ^^
Paladin's and Ninja's to me are my best friends in a party. I think some people are in such a rush to get a party they don't look at the jobs they just look at the levels.
On this below reason alone I can see why you needed to vent it was beyond being discourtisious and there was no excuse for a higher level mage to do this. I've never met such a lack of profesional courtesy from a fellow whitemage /em knocks on wood.

I have assisted with pling on occasion and my normal method is to use my highest protect on the tank and usually use cure 2 and 3 depending on how fast damage is comming in. I also will not grab hate off the tank unless there is a problem such as the tank dcing since it robs the tank of evasion skillups, parry skillips, increased shieldblock, and additional tp if they are taking part in the weaponskills. I normally let the tanks hp hover in the high yellow so the parties healer can get some heals in if they wantbut throwing a higher cure if a lucky crit, screwdriver exc brings them into the red. If the tank is a ninja rather than a paladin I keep them topped off since they can die so quickly if shadows are down. I consider myself as backup for the healer rather than their replacement. The parties whm has certain things they can see before the pl. they take care of the status ailments, their enfeebles help the fight move more smoothly, and if anything happens to the pl (dc, emergency, or what pl was waiting for comes up since most pls are doing it while waiting for something else). There is one other reason to hold on to your whitemage in party. I cannot speak for the other mages out there, but if I hear of a pt I'm pling kicking the whitmage because they don't need them anymore due to my helping I will leave.
The worst I've ever seen of was a friend leveling whm in (can't remember if it was dunes or Qufin Island leaning tword the Island) and checking with a nearby pt if they needed a whm and getting response "we have a pl and don't need a whm leach".

Well put and a very good summary for the mindset that draws whitmage mains to this job.
You'ld think that with 73 levels under his belt he'ld know enough to send a /tell if there was something he felt you should hear. I'm suprised the ninja didn't also slap him with the opening statement that the ninja sucks. I can't imagine helping a party by imediatly after showing up trying to piss off both the tank and the healer, but I like assisting pt's that would survive without me so I don't become a crutch for an unworkable party.
A note for any PL's out there if you feel someone is overlooking a better way to do something send a polite tell rather than publicly indicating person x knows nothing because of reason y. Courtesy gets better results than insults plus there may be a reason things were being done a certain way that you don't know.
When leveling other jobs I've goten those same tells and am more than happy to try out what is said if it sounds reasonable.

Don't give up on a leveling area over one overpuffed redmage. The joke fortune I was shown today fits the Redmage you described to a T "The only problem with self made people is they tend to worship their creator"
To me, it's very, very simple.
I run 3 toons. My first is a WHM, the second a THF, both at 70 as I write this. The third is a RDM, currently 60.
I worked up the WHM and THF both the hard way - there was no PL at the start, because nobody had higher level jobs - one would feel lucky if one got a raise by chance, as someone japanese ran by, and saw that you were dead.
Now, for both the thf and rdm - I PL'ed them both rotten. PT's with newbies that accepted to be PL'ed I could care less about - if they're stupid enough to think that they can fast forward their level without any kind of alarm bells going off, that's not my problem - if you're bad at playing, you're bad at playing, PL or no PL. This game isn't rocket science. I've had people that have declined invites to PT with my THF and RDM because they didn't like to be PL'ed - I respect that, and have no problems understanding it.
I'm probably not the best thief around, but I'm above average, and I'm fairly sure of what I do. Same goes for WHM - I won't claim to be an expert, but I'm far better than many of the people playing WHM out there. As for RDM, I suck, but I couldn't care less about it. I only play 3 at the same time when I'm exploring, and want a debuffer / refresher, seldom in a PT do I play 3 toons - for that, SE did a too lousy job on the keyboard input.
Bottom line:
If you don't like to be PL'ed, then leave. It's easy & fast. Find something else to do, learn the game properly etc.
