    Re: Power levels and the White Mage.

    This takes me back to a few days ago (maybe a week) when i decided i was going to level up abit. I level up off and on on whim and log on even less than that. When i get invited to a party (lv 57whm) im like cool. The guy says would you like to party, we have a p/l er with us. I say yeah but the whole time to the camp (i got lost becuase its been a while since i played) im trying to figure out what the heck a " p/l er" is ?_?. I thought to myself that it wasnt power leveling becuase you dont need to in parties, thats what parties are for. Even at that i figured that people dont p/l past lvl 15 so theres no way it could mean to power level. So im back tracking, asking were kuftal tunnerl (or whatever that tunnel name is in the sand dunes) is wondering were pai is so i can ask him about it but he wasnt on. I get to the site and sure enough there was a guy stanading around in about lv 70'ish armor healing the nin-tank. I said to myself its gonna be intresting and just started my normal whm routine once i joined the party. Behold that my refined (how much i remember) way of playing whm was totally useless during the party. I had a hard time trying to figure out what to do because i couldnt cure no one. I ended up just standing there most of the time throwing hastes, regens and banishes wishing i had some synthing material with me.

    In any case, i got nothing against those types of parties with the exception of that it rots away whm skill. Its good to have a high holy skill and enfeebling skill, but those take back stage to healing skills which you need but cant get in a p/l er party. As for me power leveling? I will only do it to thf's who are trying to get to level 15, other than that i dont do it, not even if a friend asks becaus i know that i will get bored and fall asleep and the guy im p/l will die and blame me. Meh ~.~

      Re: Power levels and the White Mage.

      Thankfully I've not been power levelled and I think it is great that I havent. Having to go it alone lets you understand the ways your jobs work and what kind of strategies to use. plus i found that learning about the job from advice of other players and my own experience the capabilities of the whm and how effective the spells are.
      powerleveling is bad as it makes players skip the the most fundamental aspects of their jobs and results in everybody eating dirt. I've been playing a month and im only lvl 13 "managed a holiday to greece in there lol" but all in all powerleveling makes you miss out on the beauty of the game. levels dont make good players skill does.

      I think I'll refuse powerlevel requests

        We just need to spread the rumour that /blockaid on gives extra xp, more crystals, conquest points and drops! Nobody could resist all that surely ^^

          Re: Power levels and the White Mage.

          I really didn't get many PL's when I first started my career as WHM.. My first was at level eighteen; the PL was only there for a short time and when I leveled he had me ditch the party and go with him. At the time (myself being new to the game and all) I had no idea what we were about to do-I just went along doing as I was told. But as you probably know already he was getting me my sub-job items. Anyways, after this I got another PL, actually two of them, while I was in Lower Defukt's Tower (Oh I know I can't spell... I use Auto-translator lol.. You know, that place in Qufim..?) fighting Giants. Now, the PL I had let me keep up on my cures, and when I did slack off, she polietly told me in a tell: "I only have one request whenever I PL, the whm still does their job." I glady stepped it up. Now the last time I had a PL (Which was just yesterday), was in Garilaige (/sigh.. yes, yes, it is spelt very wrong lol) made my job very, very boring... and made me feel useless to the party. All I did was mainly buff the party as needed, buff my self out of bordom, and sit on MSN messenger chatting up a storm (yeah.. pretty bad I know). But after the person with PL left (as did a couple of others.. Oh and I was party leader) I found some new people, no PL, and the party was going perfectly fine (actually better for me then with the PL there... lol). I believe my set us was the following: Whm (me), Pld, Drk, Brd, Sam, and a Mnk. We were getting pretty much the same exp as we did with the PL. In all, the Brd and Drk stuck with me for 4 level ups during the party (since we had to get replacemtns and all), everyone else... got maybe 2 or 3 during the time they were there.

            Re: Power levels and the White Mage.

            Who needs a PL'er? Just get a super JP party. >_>;

            7.8k exp/hr at Lv.43. NIN, RNG, COR, BLU, BLM, WHM (me) in Western Altepa Desert last weekend, with the BLU d/c'ing every 15-20 minutes. I was blown away; I'm usually happy enough just to get a 4k/hr party. Wanted to get to Lv.42 so I can drool at the Tele-V scroll I can't afford (was like 300 points into Lv.41), but now I'm nearly Lv.44. @_@ I was the lowest in party, so others were probably getting even better exp...

            Ok, it's nothing non-JP parties can't replicate, except maybe the no-one-goes-AFK every other chain part. Also, we start and ended with the same people--no "Gotta go. My LS/mommy wants me!" 30 minutes into the party kind of morons. >_> That did help a lot.

            * * *

            I do remember being PLed in Qufim on WHM, though. Those were usually horrible experiences; people running around the pond endlessly, and I never have a chance to heal for MP. One idiot kept dying because PL can't get to everyone in time and I have no MP, and we have to wait for raise and weakness to to wear off.

            Another party (I think I was on MNK?), a PLD tried to tank with meat mithkabob on IT+ mobs in the tower. >_> The PLD and the PL'er kept running out of MP until I tossed the PLD a boiled crab. It was big-fight then big-rest kind of party. <_<;

            * * *

            Just to be a hypocrite, I do PL friends in Dunes from time to time. I don't care that much about the healers in party, but I do ask the tanks to tank, sending them /tell's if I have to. I usually start off by announcing to the party "I'm a lazy PL'er; mostly here to raise dead bodies. I may help out with a cure or two every now and then. AFK for a few min. Don't die, ok?"

            Then I collect my skill up's from from toss out a few cure I's, adjusting amount of curing by how stressed out the WHM in the party is.
            Bamboo shadows sweep the stars,
            yet not a mote of dust is stirred;
            Moonlight pierces the depths of the pond,
            leaving no trace in the water.

              Re: Power levels and the White Mage.

              This is gonna sound dumb....

              Last week when I was level 72 I had a party in Bibiki Bay. For those who know where the Goblin Anglers are, that's the spot. We went under the cliff into the cave with the Tartaru Efts and camped out there. Our setup: 72Thf(mwah), 72Pld, 70Mnk, 72Blm, 72Rdm(/whm), 71War. After setting up camp I begin to pull goblins and things go smoothly as you might imagine. The fights end quickly, mp pools appear to have increased rather than decreased after fights, and the mobs respawn quickly there (only 4 goblins there total) so we're constantly chaining. After about an hour, a 75 Whm shows up and plops down behind the pt. He begins curing us during fights. The Whm had a japanese name so we asked our jp Rdm if it was his friend...the Rdm said no. I then asked all pts members if they knew the Whm, no one responded so I assumed no and continued pulling. Apparently out of a certain respect, no one decided to examine the 'jp' Whm for about an hour. About 30mins later, a bomb toss does over 1k to me >,>; (no barfira) and I die. The Whm R3s me. After being raised I ask everyone again...no one responds...again. Then I check the Whm and check his bazaar. All of the items in the bazaar were signed by the Pld XD. So I ask him in /tell. He'd been controlling the Whm and his Pld all along and the cures were making no difference. I did however appreciate the R3s ^^, I died twice from insanely powerful bomb tosses that night. ; ;

              So long story short, I had a PL on my 70-72 PT...it made no difference to the exp, but apparently he was only really there to R3 because we had no Whm. Pld never did say why he acted like he didn't know the Whm...

                If I had a second account with a 75 WHM on it, I'd keep it close by in case of death. For reals.

                      This is what the blacklist function is for. Just send him a /tell the next time he asks that you've added him to your blacklist, and blist him. Sweet, sweet silence.

                      I've had the same issues with players I've helped in the past (usually in parties that are near me while I'm fishing), and they do get persistent sometimes.

                          Interesting... I think you guys should all go to the Titan server... So far, ever since I've started, I haven't gotten many PL's and most people I play with are nice. I've never had a bad party, even with PL'ers. WHen there was a new person, and they had a PL, they did their job nicely even after the PL left. And once i had two new guys in our party that i had made and after I told them what they should be doing (voking, tanking) they listened and did their jobs pretty well. Overall I think that Powerlevelling hasn't gone too bad on our server...

                              I love threads like this because as a newer player I can see what I need to watch out for. I have to say that this has been the most informative forum to date. It is interesing to see everything that people have had to accomodate for and problems that people are running into. At least I know it is not just me. But then again it kind of gives me an edge and makes me aware that I need to look out for this sort of thing. I like the ones that invite you to a PT and wait until you get there to tell you you are too high and will affect the balance of exp. Good times.
