  • Rumors of future WHM changes?

    My LS and I got into a discussion on this and rumors of WHM being "adjusted" to become a more interesting class to play (eh? we're boring?) were talked about. One of the rumors is that SE is considering making WHM have more damage output for melee. Has anybody else heard this rumor or is my friend blowing smoke?

    Does this mean we're getting more clubs for our moogle to dust?

    The only thing SE announced was a change to Benediction to allow the curing of status (and this has been implimented) as well as a change that will allow a WHM to give thier HP/MP to other party members (not implimented). So far as I know, there are no intentions of increasing the damage output of White Mage, as that totally goes against everything they have publicly stated they want the job to be.

      I agree WHM isn't supposed to have a high damage output I think what we have now is ok for getting skill.
      Also I like the idea of givin somone out HP/MP

        Aside from that, I've found as I get further into endgame stuff, there is more and more that WHM can do to increase output damage. Granted, this is typicly not helpful in a XP/Merit situation, but in terms of all of the 50-60 stuff like limit breaks, missions, high level quests, skillup parties, what-have-you, WHM start getting it fairly good - you just have to shell out the money and get more creative with sub jobs and gear combinations.

        Darksteal Maul, O-Hat, and /NIN are a good start. A lot of the new gear from TaU would probably help as well, though I havn't had a chance to actually look at it yet.

          I'd really like the few precious whm "attack" spells to do more dmg (aka Holy, Banish III). Not that whms would become bursting machines or anything, but at least we could have that option and not be so laughable

            Hehe
            Weaponskills also a good way to get abit of power behind ya. Always a good way to do abit of damage but when I use whm I like my role as Supporter I don't mind not doing dmg because I'm always busy. But might be changing to SMN again so what do I know >.<

              They say this, and yet they made one of the best WS in the game usable by WHM only. And it's not just that...all of the most powerful clubs are WHM-exclusive, despite WHM not even having the best club skill (PLD do), and they even went so far as to give WHM their own Haubergeon.

              It's just like their declaration that BST was never intended to be a solo job. I mean, give me a break.

                          Even with all those Whm only DD goodies, a Whm will STILL only be a mediocre DD at best. They gave those items to Whm to help them if they decided to solo things or help in situations named above, not to make them into better DDs. SE just loves doing wierd things with gear to make people go 'wtf?'

                            Giving HP, I can understand. It effectively gives us another source of curing aside from MP. I see it as a 5-10 minute thing though, similar to the Seal JA's. It would be nice if it generated no Enmity, too.

                            Giving MP, though.. really doesn't make sense. Often, it's the WHM having no MP that causes bad things to happen. Unless some situation comes up where the BLM doesn't have enough MP for an Escape, I don't see myself using this much. Personally, I'd rather have some passive trait that cuts our White Mage spell costs by a certain percentage (Think Conserve MP, but a constant 10-15% reduction).

                            I recall something about putting WHM on the frontlines. Maybe they're thinking about beefing our melee ability, but TBH I probably won't ever melee because Elemental Staves > Whatever damage WHM would contribute in <75 parties. WHM/NIN with some Rare/ex equipment is rock solid enough, and IMO, worth the trek to 75, along with 37 NIN.

                              I Hexa-strike. Never leave home without it (well, my maul that is).

                              In one way I would love to see whm have increased melee abilities. Most especially in the earlier levels where farming is probably the most difficult time for whm. Another would be giving us some more shields to use. Honestly, if they can give drk or thf shields that a pld can use, why not a whm? It's not like we'll be taking over the pld's job though we might end up wiith a few whm that like to melee during parties.

                              OK, enough venting and I'll erase the bad memories of farming in the Marshlands levels 30-40.

                              So it's probably safe to say that the rumors are probably false?
