      Re: WHM Demand?

I'd have to disagree with you, pyromaniac. Even though this is actually just a matter of opinions.

Sure, SMN's make fine healers, but WHM's are designed for that. The first thing that comes to mind are raises... It irritates me to no end when I hear stories of people who just go 'yeah, take the SMN, we won't need the higher tier raises'... Sure, if they really don't need them, then fine. But if the shit hits the fan and they suddenly do need them, what happens? They either act like they're worth their salt and eat the R1, or start begging for the WHM's in the area to come and R2 them. But this is quite the dead horse already.

And if/when I do play as a SMN, I'd much rather be a SMN than just a healer. But alas, it would seem it just doesn't go that way in most situations.

But to stay on topic: WHM = just a raise-whore? I think not. There will always be a demand for WHM's. It's a class you shouldn't overlook just because another class can perform similarly to some extent. That about sums up my two gil about the demand for WHM's ^^

        Re: WHM Demand?

I'm with Lanih with this one. WHM's are designed as healers aswell as buffers etc I have and always will say WHM are supposed to be the healing support, Summoners are Buffers and Damage Dealers they can back-up heal just fine but a SMN and WHM working together makes a kick ass pt(providing you have the right set up)

          Re: WHM Demand?

White mage demand is just the same as always i'd say. We have a version update coming in about a month in which i'm hoping SE will come through on widening the gap between white mage and summoner. At fanfest they mentioned certian jobs taking the place a white mage should have in groups *cough-rdm_smn-cough*. They are planning what looks like an extensive change to the summoner job and I don't think they're done with whm yet either, so well see as the expansion goes on.

I actually refulse to be the healer as summoner because i played the job when it first was released and wasn't ask to be THE healer in a party until 50. I did it for 5 levels and after the sheer frustration of it went to solo bombs in ifrits cauldron from 55-62. After that i did a trio with me and 2 beastmasters all the way to 75. They also mentioned wanting whm to have a more active role in combat and a way to contribut more to the party besides just spells that many jobs can duplicate.

I'd go whm just because you'd be doing the same thing with less tools on smn unless you know other summoners or beastmasters you can group with (or make your own parties as smn). Either way it looks like the development team has big things in store for both jobs.

            Re: WHM Demand?

Giving WHMs the ability to gift HP to other players the same way Dragoons can give HP to their wyverns via Spirit Link would go a long way to separating WHMs from the other cure-enabled mages, and would lessen the performance gap at certain levels between RDM, SMN, and WHM.

Should be interesting to see what else S-E has in mind. Personally I'd like to see WHMs gain Cure Potency as a job trait - it's immensely annoying to me that the only reason I can outcure other mages with the same spells is because of my Noble's Tunic.

I hear you - WHM need a little distance from other jobs with Cure. The only real difference we get to see is at high levels - Raise II and III, and Cure V.

I don't much see the point of gifting HP, I'm afraid - our HP total's not that high, Melee at my level have twice as much as I do, and really I can do that with a Cure IV and later Cure V with less hate. If I've run out of MP to the point where I'd need to sacrifice my own HP, we're probably going to die and I should've used my last 75 MP to teleport us out of there.

Now, MP gift, on the other hand...

I have enough MP to completely refill a Paladin almost three times over. If he's good with his cures, the amount of actual healing I have to do is fairly minimal, and allowing him to do it thus solidifying hate on himself and letting the BLM finish the fight that much faster.

I'd originally thought RDM would make better use of this ability, but now I'm not so sure. With a competent tank I spend most fights above 75% MP.

Lack of HPs is only really a major issue for Tarutaru, and while Tarutaru HPs are low, but they're not ridiculously so, especially in cases where you're not expecting to get hit anyway. Transfer HP before you choose to cure-bomb and you've saved that MP (not to mention it actually gives us a use for auto-regen).

It also would have excellent synergy with our JSE jewelry (Medicine Ring, Lv50 +10% cure potency while HP yellow or lower and TP < 100%, and Medicine Earring Lv70 -30% damage taken under similar conditions as the ring).

Bear in mind that, at level 75, I have more HP as a Taru WHM than the Hume and Mithra WHMs in my linkshell due to better available choices in gear; I usually float somewhere around 950HP and 1200MP.

Good idea, though lvl 75 inparty whms that are mission critical(front line), try to stock up on HP anyway, but out party healing requires little use for HP.

I assume such an ablity hp giver would be pt target only, which you don't want to give if you were in it.

A front line whm dying is a killer situation, hp is important when aoe, drawn in, and just general safety.

I'm just figuring that, like Convert, certain races would be able to put it to much more effective use than others. Tarutaru have pretty similar HP and MP totals as rdm, and efficiency is pretty high.

But! This would help level the playing field for Galkan WHM, I believe. This would finally give them a great use to put those higher HP totals to.

I'm just conjecturing on the usefulness of both abilities. MP restores HP at an estimated rate of 1:4 (or 1:5 for higher-level cures, even better ratio with Light Staff), thus the ability to gift HP would be fairly limited since it'd be a 1:1 transfer.

However, since most parties have a refresher or two, I could definitely benefit from the fact that I always (in these RDM+BRD situations) have Refresh + Ballad x2 and the PLD doesn't in favor of attack or defense songs. I could give him some MP, then rest with my Dark Staff and my MP regen, then gift him some more MP. Unless it's made into another 15- or 20-minute ability, which would really toss the usefulness out the window.

But I'm sure I could find a use for HP gift, I'm just speculating.
