I'm having some trouble with my Mana during Assault.
The crux of it being the fact your average party reads the word 'time limit' and somehow translates that to 'series of frantic headlong rushes to the nearest mob irreguardless of actual time left'. Coupled with the fact buffs wipe while walking in, even if your going in uncapped, it keeps putting me in a position where I'm starting this whole mess with about half my mana pool - with no real chance to recover outside of Refresh.
Being that I'd like to Reraise III myself, and cast Protectra IV, ShellraIV, and RegenIII on PLD or Haste on NIN before I can even think of resting. Poof, half my mana.
And it's not like the mob's just passively sitting there letting me do that. No, no, it's wailing on the tank. So Cure, Remove status effect, and melee #2 is already making a frantic headlong dash to the next mob while somehow managing to stare at that 50% of mana and angrily demand a Haste.
My MP expenditures superceeds what I can recover with simple Refresh alone.
The mobs while not exceedingly powerful, can still make ouch that needs to be healed, which in itself isn't an issue - along the lines of Roaming Merit parties. With the exception that much unlike these parties you really can't let mob proximity set-up a psuedo-camp for a handful of minutes - Assault mobs are positioned as far apart from eachother as humanely possible. Leading to a net loss - that always cumulates into a desperate situation, despite my almost fanatical reverance for the MP efficient Flash and Regen spells - by the last 2 or 3 mobs.
So what do I do?
I've tried - god help me- *reasoning* with people, bargaining with simple logic for a small measure of patience well within the time constraints given. But about all that's gotten me is the level 75 MNK's expert, all-knowing, advice on mana.
"Why don't you rest through most of the battles like the BLM?"
"A NIN doesn't need Protect"
"Haste me, so I can kill the mob faster and save you mana"
And so on. -_-;
Obviously, and irritatingly, this is something I'm going to have to handle entirely from my end.
Do I cross my fingers and sacrifice ReraiseIII?
Reraise III is 200 MP, and that's a good start. But even in my most selfsacrificing moment that just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I eat a possible R1 because Person A is nervous and twitchy by the time limit, Person B couldn't care less, and Person C just can't keep their bloodlust in check long enough?
Do I start bringing Ethers, despite the fact most others can't be bothered to even bring Food?
Do I try to use % MP increasing Foods outside, rest to full, so that when I lose half inside I have more than usual?
How have you folks been handling this?
