    Re: Suggestions for Galka WHM?

Absolutely. Max MP isn't the end-all of WHM, much as some people would like to say it is. Astral Rings are nice, but hardly what I'd call a necessity - you can get by without them with correct food usage and juicing.

In fact, I'd say, at lower levels, juicing has more impact than any gear you can wear, especially if you have the ability to make it yourself in the field.

At low levels, cookies are the way to go. I cannot tell you how often they have saved me. This came as no surprise when I was the only mage (WHM) in a 5 melee party in Dunes once.

Yes, we made it to chain 3s and 4s w/o too much hassles. Cookies really helped. Pies are useless (Max mp for what? You won't be able to fill 100% resting if you're planning to exp chain) and juices take up too much inventory space unless you have 40 slots minimum to carry stacks of crystals and mats to make them. This might be difficult, since at low levels, you gain levels quickly and also need spells (So you might be carrying tons of shit in the first place)

Again... comes down to cookies ;3

Cookies can be a good food choice, but atleast until I can equip some of my RSE, I'll be using pies for the extra security. The 50+ to my magic really helped me out. I wouldn't want to run out of mp, and have the mob pull some AoE move right as I rest and put everybody into the yellow, and me sitting there like an ass, waiting for my mp to come up.

My inventory space did fill up often (been too lazy to do my gobbie bags) but I always had enough space for my materials, and new gear/spells. With Pilgrim's Wand and juice, I got just as much mp back while resting like I would using cookies, only I had the advantage of a major MP bonus. It may be different for other races, but I had to do something to make up for my lack of MP.

Juice is better than cookies (assuming you only do one of the two). I think your approach works just fine Auron517. It wouldn't be the way a Taru WHM would operate, but they have different priorities than you do.

Well I wasn't sure exactly how much MP a Galkan WHM/BLM has at level 15, so it's tough to make that comparison. All I know is you have to be frugal with your mp. In that 5 melee party I main healed for, I made sure everyone was in the white, but did not top them off except for the main tank and backup tank (2nd voke) If a THF wanted to be an ass and SA right off the bat, let them deal with their 2/3 HP total doing so. I just laugh.

It's like DRKs using souleater right from the get go. If any of you mages see this, do me a favor and let them die. That should serve as a deterant for future idiocy ;3

              Re: Suggestions for Galka WHM?

Fellow Galka mage here. 68 BLM / 35 WHM.

I leveled cooking to 30 specifically so I could carry 2 Water Clusters and 4 stacks of pineapples to make juices on the spot for parties. Also, I never used any +MP food on WHM. I used Wizard Cookies for the huge +hMP. Galka MP is scary low that you'll need to rest after every battle so the best strategy is to heal it as fast as you can and juices + cookies will do this for you. You'll be full MP for every pull.

Equipment wise, I used every +MP item that was available to me. The most noted piece of equipment though were 2 Astral Rings (might be out of your price range) and the Baron Slacks for the +hMP. I also recommend camping the NM Bird in West Sarutabaruta for the Pilgrim's Wand that gives +2 hMP.

Galka RSE is killer! Make sure you get all 4 pieces when you can because this will increase your MP Pool by a ton. The first piece becomes available at LV 27.

At LV25 you can get the Mycoloid(sp?) Gloves (+2 MND, -2 Enmity, RA/EX) from the Funguar in Carpenter's Landing. You can pop it every 15 min by trading it a sleep, dance and woozy shroom. I think they may give a little MP too but I don't remember off the top of my head.

Also, if you have SMN leveled you should consider using it as sub for the MP Boost.

Galka can make super good mages. You just need to be very MP conscious. Regen is amazing as well as lots of Cure 1s. Divine Seal will save MP as well. Juices/+hMP is better than +MP because +MP is passive in that once you use the MP it's gone. The juice and +hMP will regenerate your MP super fast and you'll always have MP after a few moments of resting.

              Good luck!

                Re: Suggestions for Galka WHM?

One of my secondary(which I played quite a bit in the past) characters is a Galka; When I leveled as WHM I used Witch Kabobs(High Quality version of Roast Mushroom) Juices were a must(sometimes things went bad).

Regen was, and still is, one my my favorite spells in this entire game. At that time Astral Rings simply weren't an option for me so I didn't use those. I had alot of Max MP increasing gear; but for almost every slot that I had MP gear for I had substitue MND gear for. After the inital MP is used gear that increases Max MP isn't doing anything for you anymore so I'd switch them out for something else.

Pilgrim wand and Baron's slops would be pretty good to have as well.

                  Re: Suggestions for Galka WHM?

The best suggestion I can offer is +Refresh and +MP on Rest. Granted, I am a taru, but I have played with various different settups. +MND, +MP, +Def... of all of them I like a heavy +MP with a secondary focus on +MP on rest. I would think for a galka, the reverse would work awesomely; +MP on rest where you can, +MP in everything else, +MND only if you don't have +MP there.

Juices are good. Choco milk is good if you don't want to go through wiz cookies. Obviously at certain levels you can start planning your party around +MP regen too; more so now that there is the option of Healer's Roll. @ lvl 30 in bibiki bay I was resting w/o +mp on heal gear and food for about 30mp per tic. Imagine getting that +Refresh +Mp on heal gear, +food, +eventually dark staff + other gear.

Pokeing around at some of the newer (mostly higher lever gear sadly), you could easily break +50mp per tic while resting with a proper party setup. At that rate, you're talking a Cure V in 10 seconds - just enough time for a backup cure to go off while you get MP for a full heal ala no hate.

Which reminds me... time for me to go do some assault missions...

EDIT: We also have use of Imperial Coffe now, which gives +5mp on rest and +5hp on rest ad is a 2hr or 3hr food. I looked everything up on somepage, and with equipment alone you can get to about ~45mp per tick before /smn, and without taking into account drinks, Healers Roll, Refresh, Ballad, or Ballad II.

                    I agree.

At low levels, I recommend pies for the +MP. At higher levels +hMP became more important, but I always carry a couple of Yag Drinks in case of emergencies. My cooking skill is 61, but I never had much time to synth my own Pineapple Juices in XP parties.

Regen and Paralyze are wonderful. Just beware of Regen's longish cast time and wait until the tank's Provoke to cast Paralyze on the incoming mob (or you may grab the mob's attention).
