What does Aquaveil do?

Do I need it? I'm level 10 and don't know whether I should get it or wait 'till 11 and buy Cure II? Also, should I buy Dia?

Aquaveil lowers your spell interruption chances. In my opinon, it's skippable. Cure II is a MUST! So if you only have gil for one or the other, get Cure II for sure. Aquaveil is a luxury plus.

Aquaveil only costs pennies. You will likely see it drop off some gobs or low lvl whm enemies. Its a spell you will use later in your career, but not useful for exping.

Definitly get cure2 and then dia. Dia is very useful.

Not to sound too rude, but if you're forced to make that kind of decision, I think it's time you went out and made some gil ... have you tried farming for crystals or some such? Remember also that a lot of the low level spells can be bought from NPCs for a pittance.

Dia 90 gil
Cure II 650 gil

you also should get you all Bar-Spells, the lower once cost like 100-700 gil each

Dia is a most common spell, used in most case every fight at start up. it lowers the mobs defense and will kill them faster.

I see no need for Aquaveil in an EXP-PT. but if you do something solo, farming, EXPing, doing quest with killing mobs it is really nice to have, i will not miss this spell.


the most common spells can be bought in the magic shops in the starting towns or in jeuno.
shop will save you very often a huge amount of gil

aquaveil isnt worth it in party situations due to you fighting mobsIT++. not only that, it drains alot of mp, an takes to long to cast. as for bar spelss. i only see barwatera, an barfira, as being the only 2 major ones youll need, the others are junk, an never really help you avoid sleep or paralyze.

they will not avoid sleep or paralyze, they will lower the time you have the effect as i remember correct (if not, feel free to correct me once agian ^^)

barstonra is good to have too, if fighting worms (which is the best option till level 22) barstonra is a must to have

I feel Aquaveil the only real time i used it was fighting Maat when he kept hitting me and i cant really time my cures else its gonna be tricky.

I only use it when soloing my whm, mainly because it slightly increase one of my magic stats (enhancing I think, please confirm) I like the animation that goes with it as well, will take a screenshot and post if I have time. As said before Cure II is a must if your short on cash at Lvl 11 I doubt you'll get many xp parties if you don't have it at that level.

Other useful things are.....

barpoison (lvl 6 I think) especially if your in bastok and fighting rock lizards.
Protect (obviously)
Protectra (for parties, get at lvl7)
barparalze self explanatory (can't remember level)
Banish - uses a bit of Mp but useful in a solo fight
paralyze - Great way to start a battle while soloing from a distance, also useful as an additional enfeeble when in parties. use at low levels often to up skill so it is useful on higher lvl mobs in the future

I'm only up to lvl 14 currently with my mage so can't comment any further.

You can get cure 2 in Sebina, imo, its pointless to buy the majority of spells of the AH. Most of the spells can be bought off of NPCs

Aquaveil is also nice for when your PT has an add & you need to cast sleep.
Although the chances of you getting intrupped are quite high, everything helps.
