Maat goes down!

Fellow whitemages,

Just wanted to say that I beat Maat on the first try! I went ahead and gave it a go at lvl 69 anyway (I was too anxious) Thanks to those who gave me insights on my previous thread and thanks to Tifa/Miriamel who's battle plans I followed (thread is a few pages back, but a mighty good one). Now begins the long stretch to 75! /psych

Good for you! Congratulations on beating the old man. I personally beat him at 66, though ... was lots of fun. I even posted about it here. What kind of equipment did you use?

Is it possible to actualy "defeat" Maat as WHM? Like, beat him to death with a hammer or something?

/sigh ..... why don any1 listen to me go in to the fight with matt and go /em kicks maat in the balls. and i'm sure the game will give u the victory XD or at least it will act like stunn lmao XD ... ok i'm prolly getting annoying now >.<

My stuff was pretty standard:

Full AF
x2 electrum rings (switched out for a Verve and Vigor ring: both +Vit)
Healing staff
Dodge earing
Enhancing Earing
Republican Gold Medal
Poweful Rope

My items were just a combo of what Tifa/Miriamel suggested

3 yagudo drings
1 vile elixir
2 X potions
1 tavnazian taco (not around during those previous posts)
8 echo drops

Looking back the fight went pretty smooth. I played it extra safe, figuring that rather than somehow die and "save" money by not using an item, I would use the item to ensure 100% victory. I used Benediction when I prob didnt need to- again I waned to be careful. Same goes for the Vile Elixir- but I wanted to be sure I didn run out of mana. I had brought an earth staff too but then i got worried that maybe my win depended on the total % healed. I'd lose 10% healing potenticy by swapping out the Healing Staff and I didnt want to run out of time. As it stood, my time was 8 min 53 seconds /panic So I only had about 1 minut to spare. Maat did only 1 WS on me: Shoulder Tackle. He cast a lot of spells like Holy, Banishga, Slow, paralyze etc. Don't know if thats normal or not.

From what I gather, yes a whm could to in and try to beat Maat physically but it would be very hard. Ive heard about a few people doing so but with the Kracken Club and other insanely overpowered gear

Yea, there was a BRD who had bought like over 100 mil in gear (Kraken, elusive that kinda stuff) and tried to beat him to death. He still died XD. Anyways if you were 67 or higher and had capped club skill (hard to do but worth the effort. Hexa strike ftw!) you could have a decent chance. Anyways if I can ever get my hands on one of those clubs I'll be sure to try it out. (First I gotta get high enough level XD)

Bards HAVE to beat him down. There is no alternate method for them to complete G5.

Speaking of which, I think I'm gonna work on making a video of me beating Maat in actual combat as a WHM, instead of using the Curing method. Of course, being level 75 I'll have a major advantage, but oh well...it'll be fun nonetheless.

I know BRD's have to beat him down, but rather then beat him down by normal means he tried to kill him by using a kraken. He reported that giving a kraken gave him to much TP so he used WSs to much.
