Whm is a nice job, with the healing skills you can help yourself and others, plus there is raise, the teleports. I think whm is the most importan job on FF
Reraise 1/2/3 (At level 33/60/75) is nice, especially higher up. If you pay attention to when it wears off it means you'll never have to eat a Raise 1. Even if you're not that high, it guarantees you have a Raise for yourself.
Teleports (levels 36/38/42) are nice. You never have to find a teleport or pay for one since you can teleport yourself. And if you sub BLM you can teleport to wherever, do whatever you wanted to do, and warp back when done.
Sneak/Invisible (level 20/25) are good because you can go where you want without the use of expensive items. Though RDM gets this at the same levels as WHM, and many jobs (namely BLM, SMN, BST, BRD) sub WHM and get these (@40 & 50).
You get Auto-Regen (at 25), which is good for soloing, but unfortunately WHM isn't a great soloer.

WHM is just so-so XP-wise. Everyone wants the security of Raise I/II/III but in the deepest darkest parts of their brain they'd rather have a RDM or BRD or whatever in the slot in a lot of cases if they could just break themselves away from wanting those high level Raises.
WHM really shine at level 75 though. Reraise III is irreplaceable. You really can't do anything nifty at end-game without WHMs, unless you like losing tons of XP for mistakes.
Still, every job in FFXI is what you make of it, to a greater or lesser extent. There are people who simply can't stand playing WHM, because it IS a passive job, and you basically just react. For those who can get into the right mind-set though, it's quite rewarding.

Hehe, WRONG....WHM aren't the best soloers. But everyone says that WHMs suck at soloing. I just can't get this. With THF sub (gimp mind you) and Hexa strike. I could farm EP manticores in Eastern Altepa for seals (which will let me BCNM), hides (1k to vendor), teeth (1k to vendor), and Hairs (4-8k on AH depending on udercutters). It only takes me ~2mins to solo an EP mob with hexa strike. I can make 50,000 gil an hour easily farming EP mobs. So if you have trouble soloing as WHM, you just don't have hexa strike yet (available at level 67, 220 club skill).
Also, while soloing, it's a lot better if you have staff skilled up to spirit taker (level 215 staff) If you use spirit taker, you have almost no downtime whatsoever while farming.
WHM is an incredibly useful job. Most NAs are like OMG I'M DOING DRK, RNG, or DRG BECAUSE I WANT TO PWN JOO!!!!!.......those idiots end up quitting around level 30 to go play WoW and kill eachother in their low-intellect bliss.....Anyways, you'll love WHM, it's very fun and rewarding.

This is why WHM can't solo. A PLD/WAR can easily kill EP mobs in a minute or so, without the need to cast 200 buffs and debuffs. Just about any job can solo better than WHM -_-; ... the only exception I can see is BRD, which doesn't seem to be able to solo at all.
Lv67 + hexa strike and spirit taker doesn’t really make whm a soloable job because you have to wait to get to that level and skill. I think a soloable job is a job were you can efficiently farm a mob taking either minimum damage per mob + number of mobs for down time and/or doing the most damage per hit to a mob + number of mobs vs downtime through out your job leveling career. In other words, a lv 1-67 whm being a non efficient soloable far out weighs the last 8 levels of being a top tier soloable job. Whm can still solo, it just takes time/effort/money (if you want the equip) and strategy to know what mobs are most worth your time instead of just farming a zone with a melee job with+15Thf (at least) and coming back with stacks of stuff to sell, which almost any job can do if its Lv of Job vs Lv of zone, but whm main would still be a little slower.

I don't cast 200 buffs while soloing. I only use Protect and Shell, and also Regen III. I can take down a mob in about two minutes. It took my PLD friend 5-6 mins to solo an EP of the same level. In this game, skill and knowhow far outweighs the job choice.

ok i'm both whm and brd.....taru
whm can solo to a certain extend, you just need to know what you can take....you can not take on anything higher than EP without a lot of work.....but you can run to say Giddues and with blm sub nuke a large number of yags and rest while waitin on respawn, or hit the canyon and do the same thing.....(of course this depends on your lvl) i have found that though i can take out EP mobs its a real battle of mp conserving and casting the right spells.....
as for brd not being able to solo...pffft
but like whm it's what ya choose to fight where.......i have been farming with my brd abit lately..usually gear up with MP items, my sword and shield (don't really need chr while farming so many get defense gear) as brd i can take out EP with abit of work but i can do it...usually do stoneskin, blink, minute x2...when ss i down i do lullaby and ss up again, when mp gets too low i do ballad
Yes melee can take the mob out faster at times but mages can still farm, just need to pick your area carefully......it's knowing how to handle what job you play and how best to work the mobs
War can't solo Shite. A whm friend of mine has classically been about 2-5 levels above me and when we go duo stuff together, we used to have him tank. This is an elvaan war/nin letting a taru whm tank because it was just more efficient. Of course, I'd have to let him get started and turn around a lot, but it worked quite well. This is how we did much of our skill upping. Now he wears a lot of -Enmity from his AF and I wear a lot of +enmity so things are different, but he can still hold his own. The fact that someone said "We can't take a Decent Challenge without a lot of effort" speaks volumes. As a war/whatever (in fact, a fully leveled /thf usually works better for solo than /nin), I fear most things that check EP. I can't silence a weak mage and take advantage of their fragile hp/defense, I can't cure myself to outlast a crab or a beetle. I think a drk/whm could likely solo very well but I've never seen this in action post-20. Aside from subbing mage jobs (drk/whm, drg/whm) I think that a lot of melees have a hard time soloing. This said, I will note that al the jobs who are worst at taking out EP and up solo are some of the best farmers. I farm with axe/shield (raised shield a lot this way ) and rampage every other mob for a very fast kill, Dragoons, Dark Knights, and Monks are all excellent farmers. I could definately see Paladins being effective farmers as well as good at killing higher level mobs due to self-cure but my Pld is 1. Thieves are an in-betweener as -sure- they can solo just about anything, but they don't kill as fast. Ninja just ain't fair. They can solo Toughs and they can farm quickly.
"And if he left off dreaming about you, where do you suppose you'd be?"

They just don't want WHM for their raise. Also for our cures and other spells over 37 that a /WHM sub can't access. RDM and BRDs especially BRDS have natural lower mp then WHM and BLM. I've played RDM 60+ and I don't like the idea of refreshing, regen 1 , hasting, cureing, casting protectra and shellra, silena or paralyna all while trying to do my job as RDM. Some ppl enjoy this and I'm glad but I don't.

For most people, inviting a WHM means they want big cures (Cure 5), Viruna, Stona, or Raise II/III. None of the other spells in the WHM arsenal are unique enough to specifically spend a party slot for. Viruna and Stona only come into play for a handful of levels each (around the late 50's/early 60s), and Cure 5 is simply a luxury, especially as most WHMs haven't the foggiest clue how to use it (i.e. waiting until your tank is almost dead to cast Cure 5 because it's "more efficient" is NOT the correct answer).
I love whm. I really wanted to play a role that supported my set PT. I like being the core healer/enhancer. I do miss being part of WS chains but that's about it.
