Having macros that span multiple sets scares me. I also don't really have the space, my other sets are for other jobs/roles.

for my whm i use 20 macros, 17 that i dun change and ctrl 8-9 that i change depending of what i need, like to select the main tank when im in alliance and tanks in other PT, barspells, -na spells or silence

i like to combine my macros with spell/equipment i use for that spell, well they look something like

to cast on party members i like to press F1-6 and then use the macro i need

also for spells like erase , haste, regen and suck i also use /recast "Spell" so i can see how long till recast

dun remember exactly how they are but is something like this:

      ALTs
      1-4) /ma "Cure II-V" <st>
      /equip errant body/ healing staff/ medicine & peace rings/Clerik pantaloons

      5-6) /ma "Regen II-III" <t>

      7) /ma Erase <t>

      8) /ma "Flash" <t>
      /equip Legs "Healers Pantaloons"

      9) /equip my max mp equipment

      10) /equip my resting equipment, once im full or close to is i change to ALT9 gear

      CTRLs

      1) /target <bt>
this helps me to target my battle target, i like this better than to have the macros for dia and such like /ma "Dia II" <bt> cause if we get link that /ma "Dia II" <bt> macro can screw us waking the sleeped mob

      2) /ma Stoneskin <me>

      3) /ma blink <me>

      4) /ma "Dia II" <t>

      5) /ma Paralyze <t>
      /equip Ice staff / Healers briault / errants pants /errants hat/rainbow cape

      6) /ma Slow <t>
/equip Earth staff / Healers briault / errants pants /errants hat/ rainbow cape

      7) /ma Haste <t>

      8-9) depends what i need

      10) /p
      /ma "Protectra IV" <me>
      /wait #
      /ma "Shellra IV" <me>

It must be what you get used to. I have no problem switching between my 4 macro sets to cast any spell.

If I am ever in a party (limit 2 is a good example) with more than 1 WHM I am never outcast by another WHM, especially when multiple people have multiple ailments that requiring resolving.

I am sure you can all see it too as I can usually spot a WHM who is not using the multiple macro method I use within 2 fights. I would not change my targetting method for the world, I feel very comfortable using it and the people I party with, generally (we all have bad days), agree I do my job exceptionally well.

          Re: Being a good WHM.

I had six cure 1 and six cure 2 macros until I started running out of space in the macro bar, hehe. It's amazing how much faster curing is if you don't have to actually target someone.

Now I have one set of macros that I use for whm. Whoever had 80... wow more power to you...I would get messed up trying to remember which pallete I was on!

I'll agree with the posters that said using a controller is really helpful. If you don't want to have <p0> - <p5> macros, then I recommend that you keep your tank targeted all the time so that you can just hit the /ma "Cure X" <t> and cure them, since that person will be who you heal the most.

            Re: Being a good WHM.

I don't think i could live with using the keyboard. I look at that thing in big battles and wonder what it must be like without a controller. My macros look like this

            CTRL set
            1. Med (switches in about 5 things and /heal's)
            2. Cure 2
            3. Cure 3
            4. Cure 5
            5. Blindna
            6. Paralyna
            7. Poisona
            8. silena
            9. erase
            0. (rotating cursna, viruna, stona - depending on mob)

            Alt bar
            1. Healing equip (light staff, etc)
            2. Flash
            3. R3 (or the misc macro)
            4. Protect/Shell
            5. Dia2
            6. Silence
            7. haste
            8. regen 3
            9. aerialarmor (for behemoth/big fights it's needed)
            0. Divine Seal

These macro's I came up with after looking through my spell list and deciding just what the absolute basics of whm were. Cure 1 and cure IV are not macro'd because I find them to be a waste of space. All my macros use an <stpc> and i'm on PS2 so I only use controller. It's very very rare that time to target is a factor in anything I do. To compensate for this i've increased my cure speed via merits. Dunno if it works but at least i feel better!

<p1-p5> are really a waste of macro space. Learn to use stpc and stnpc. They'll save you a lot of macro spaces and such

                Re: Being a good WHM.

                Namelesss

try typing in your spell command into the chat bar (not macroing)

                /ma Cure Players name
                /ma Cure <p0> - <p5>

this way you can repeat spam the spell (remember the spell has down time too), by just reentering that text (let me know if you dont understand how to re-enter text, I'm assuming that you already do) over and over.

This is a fast way to cure without bothering with targeting. In laggy situations this work faster then macros imo, and I lag quite a bit so I type in certain spells a lot in certain situations.

Hope this helps! Also, if things come to such an extent, remember you can always throw in a Cure II, but at this level try to understand that using Cure II may cause your tank to loose some hate, especially if you have been spamming Cures continously. So whenever you do use Cure II, try to find ways to save yourself, while it's attention is on you ^^ work it out with the party. If you have antoher mage, make sure he/she spams Cure on you.

Around 20 or so these points are pertty moot ^^, once you get cure III, you'll have cure II and Cure to alternate, without taking much hate... and then use Cure III when needed for a higher hate penalty

This works fine until you realize you're chasing 2-4 tanks around a huge battlefield arena in a kiting fight like Kirin or King Behemoth. Taking the brief moment to swap macro palettes = someone probably just died. I cannot imagine trying to swap palettes with a keyboard + running behind a tank + making sure everyone else stays alive + making sure YOU don't get hit by AoEs.

I used to use manual spellcasting off the magic menu. It's infinitely faster than any other method - as long as you don't have to move. The moment you've got to change positions with any sort of frequency, you lose all the advantages.
