Wow, on Hades, I haven't seen people shouting for less than 2k a tele in weeks. And before that, it had been 1k for a crag tele for months ... possibly even over a year. If you offered a WHM 500g to teleport you on Hades nowadays, you'd be shouting for a month. So I guess I don't agree with the "prices have stayed the same" thing.

On a side note, dinged 35 WHM today ... almost made it to 36 but someone had to leave and disbanded the whole party. ; ;

On my previous character, I never bothered to take gil for a tele. If I was available, I just ported them for free, and if I wasn't, I didn't even notice the /shouts. It's a very rare occasion that I'll ask someone else for a tele unless I'm doing an LS thing, or if it's in an exp group or whatever. I just prefer to be self-sufficient.

That said, if folks want to pay someone to teleport them, I don't really have any room to say that they shouldn't pay whatever they feel is reasonable.

I've never Tele-Taxi'd, but I've teleported strangers occasionally. (Fishing is my income.) Teleporting is a commodity like any object in this game or the world for that matter. Pricing will be different from place to place.

For example:
If you don't like how much the bottled water costs from the vending machine in front of you, then walk down the block to the convenience store and get one there that's a bit cheaper. Or you can wait to get to the office and pour yourself a nice glass of water from the cooler.

When I pick up people for teleporting, it's because I've got the time, they offered a price I felt was worth my time, and they were polite. If I choose not to Teleport, I respond "I'm sorry, but I'm busy right now."

What's a price "worth my time"? Depends on my mood. I've accepted 500gil. I've accepted more. If I'm in a really good mood, after I see them Trade the gil, I cancel and say "Freebie ^^!" When I was fishing for my Lu Shang rod, I asked for 6 Moat Carp in exchange for a teleport. Two people actually paid that - and thought it was highly amusing!

If there's no agreed upon price prior to acceptance of the contract, the WHM should accept what is given. Conversely, the traveler should give something reasonable and not run off without paying. "Reasonable" can differ widely, but I think it's safe to say that 500gil is the bare minimum. If the WHM requests a certain payment and you don't wish to pay that, then say "I can't afford that, sorry." and look elsewhere. Being rude to the WHM brings you no honor. And if the WHM really is looking for fares, they will bring their price down if necessary.

There are lots of ways of getting around Vana'diel. I recommend the outpost supply quests. Not that long ago, Pandemonium coordinated efforts for the various cities to take over the other starter areas. Yep, Windy got Gustaberg and Ronfaure, Bastok got Saruta and Ronfaure, and Sandy got Saruta and...well, I guess they don't really want Gustaberg ;p

If you really want that Tele and don't have enough money, try being a little creative. Offer *something* (ie Echo Drops) that might be of value to the WHM. Even an amusing role-played story might work. Just please don't be rude and know when "no" means "no".

I'm on Midgardsormr. I always give 3-5K for a teleport to anywhere. If nobody is responding to my shout I'll offer 10K.

Sometimes that won't even get me a Teleport. I was in Whitegate shouting for 5 min (I shouted about once every 30 seconds because I was in a hurry). I offered 10K for Tele-Holla.
Nobody would do it! Whitegate on Midgardsormr has as many people as Jeuno combined. =[

Luckily, my galka BLM good looks attracted a 75 BLM who teleported me for free.

But yeah, it's so hard to get a teleport I always offer a ton of gil whenever I need one.

Im only high enoough to do the first three. People shout and I'll pick them up. I was busy at the ah one day and a guy was shouting for a tele for 2k. By the time I finsihed, he upped his price to 3k. When I invited him and he opened the window, I told him 2k was fine that I was busy earlier. He gave me 2100.

I've seen some people talk about how greedy whms are because of the tele prices going up, yet they don't seem to think its greedy when they get a spell like erase or raise 3 and they jack up those prices. So, why shouldn't whm's raise there prices to help them get the spells they'll need. Erase, isn't a luxuary, its a need. I did the utses quest to pay for mine which I had at 32. Now, how many high levels out there would like to eat a raise 1 or 2 when the whm could give them raise 3 if they could afford it.

Although I agree that some White MAges may be self-centered, most are simply busy. If it really takes that long to get a tele, and you still don't have one, just get there using another means. From Al Zabi you can get to Mea in ~15 min(tele to jeuno -> choco)

I had a little "run-in" with someone in Jeuno the other day. I was busy, my ls was going to be doing Dynamis in 10 mins. I was at the ah buying some stuff for people before heading out. I saw this guy shouting and shouting for a tele and I really did feel badly that I could not do it. And then he msgs me and asks for a tele. I told him that I was busy and heading out to Dynamis. He then went on a rant about how he needed it, has been shouting a long time, whms don't understand cause they can just tele anywhere, blah blah blah I tried to explain to him that my hp was in Windy and I was going to do Dynamis Bastok in 10 mins but he said they would wait because I was the whm. >.< I had to /blist him because he started to be abusive.

Funny thing is I am lvling other jobs and I stand in Jeuno shouting just like the next guy. I was in Jeuno shouting the other day for 45 mins for a tele before an lsmate logged in and graciously took me. I am a whm but I do know how frustrating it is.

I usually just grab people that have been shouting for 5-10 minutes and teleport them for free, they already wasted alot of their time shouting and it only costs me my mana. (I get annoyed if I forget to change my sub!) There's tons of different ways to make gil out there, a friend of mine has made 50 million gil with fishing in 2-3 weeks. if you have the time to teleport whore for 3-4 hours to make 50K, you have time to fish. Frankly the whms that -charge- people tick me off cause I once was a lvl 20 noob with only 2K in my pocket and giving 500gil to a port was a lot of money. 2K+ for crags is lunacy at it's best ^^ I only expect gil from people who actually send me tells while I'm lfg and subbed SMN. Usually they get this respomse: "What's in my search comment?" <player> You're lfg. "Right. Does that mean I want to teleport?" <player> It's only going to take a minute. "No, it's going to keep me from getting a party as I teleport you." I hate getting tells while I'm lfg for dynamis when it clearly states in my search comment: "Dynamis - XXXX. I will not teleport." and I still get the tells.

I never ask a whm that's lfg to teleport, it's a total piss off for me and I'm sure it's a piss off for others as well. When I did tele-whore in earlier levels, I never put a set price nor did I ask for gil, I left it to the player to pay me what he could. noobs would give me 200 gil, higher more experienced players would give me more.

I give 1-5K average. when I shout for more then 15 minutes, it's 10K I get bitter though when I get the invite cause I know it's a frothing mouth for my gil.

I'm a little too nice as whm sometimes.
If I see someone offer a huge amount (10k-ish and up) for a tele, I usually grab em and tele for free. If they offer that much, than they're obiously in dire need of a teleport. I don't really advertise for teleports, but if someone sends me a /tell, I generally tele them for free if they don't mind letting me finish whatever business I have in town first. Occasionally, people insist on payment, and thats ok with me. I don't really make an issue out of it.

OMG, I'm so glad I'm not the only one! My friends jump on me for tele'ing people for free. One day I took 3 people within 2 mins that would have totalled nearly 30k for free and my ls was laughing at me. I just feel so guilty for taking such a large sum for something so simple and that only takes seconds of my time.

I don't feel guilty at all, especially when I go to the AH in Jeuno looking for a single fire crystal, open price history and see 1k, and bid up to 2k (in 100g increments) - and I'm STILL unable to buy the damn fire crystal. When people jack up prices like that, I don't feel guilty at all for charging people for teleports. And that's just an example of price gouging ... of course it gets worse.

And thats why we are all different. I do feel guilty doing something so simple for such an eye gouging price. 1k fine, 10k {No, thanks.} I also lvl other jobs and I am sometimes the person shouting and I'll never shout for a 10K tele knowing how little effort it takes to actually do it. 2k possibly and only if I'm in an extreme hurry!
