  • Gear advice (level 43)

    I am a level 43 hume white mage/black mage.

    At the moment I have:
    - Electrum hairpin
    - 2* Electrum rings
    - Seer's Tunic/Holy Breastplate
    - Blessed Hammer
    - 1 Enhancing earring and one Black earring
    - White Cape (gonna buy Tundra or Red cape)
    - Custom RSE slacks
    - Seer's pumps +1
    - Devotee's mitts
    - Oracle's Belt
    - A shield

I have already bought a Light Staff, and will buy Dark staff soon. I also have Erase.

Any equipment I should buy now, or will need aside from Artifact up to level 60?
I think I can afford a Vermillion cloack at 59, but I'm not sure though.

If you can afford it (few people can), a Vermillion Cloak is an excellent investment if you plan to level other mage jobs to level 59+ as well.

Assuming you get your Dark Staff, the rest of your gear looks fine as is.

Other nifty stuff: Penitent's Rope at 60, Gold Hairpin at 50

Tactician Magician's Wand is good for Lv50 capped areas and BCs since you won't be able to use your elemental staves. Blessed Hammer gives some +MND (from memory) but the MND+lots wands are so cheap that it's worth getting for that specific situation. Personally I threw away my AF hammer as soon as I could equip Arcana Breaker.

Holy Shield will last you for a very, very long time, so try and get hold of one of those.

You didn't say what you're using as neck, so I'm going to assume either Holy Phial or Justice Badge. Change that to either Star Necklace (Convert MP) or Promise Badge (MND+5) later on.

I find the Lilith's Rod a nice peice of gear to use for lv 50 caps. Since you can get a lot more use out of it. The MP drain works nicely when skilling on crabs or fighting with elementals.

WHM really don't melee at all at 50-cap battles, with possibly the exception of the mission 11 battle at Fei'Yin on those weak skeletal warriors, so I found Lilith's Rod to be of very dubious use (I actually got one from Lich C Magnus when I did the quest, but realized I rarely if ever used it, so sold it after a couple months).

It's pretty good against non-Dark elementals, however.
