  • whm solo-age?

    I know WHM's aren't really meant to solo but... I'm sorta obsessed with the premise for some odd reason ._.
    (jealousy of rdm's that can solo jesus, mainly)

    I got Hexa, capped enfeebling (helps alot ) but not much beyond that... I can solo EP++ right now (level 67) but really, really want to get to where I can solo DC without using 2hr.

    At 74 I know I'm going to level NIN to sub, but utsu ichi right now isn't worth losing BLM enfeebles/sleep/bind/ele seal.

    Anything else I can really nab on to solo? Or am I just about at my peak for another 7 levels :/

    Go level another job. WHM's solo marginally better than Bards - everyone else is better at it than we are, for the most part.

      I'm not a WHM myself, and Icemage is partially right. WHMs arn't the best soloers out there. However... if you look below, there is a topic I made about a WHM tank. He can get himself upto physical dmg -70%, and also tanks via other methods (/NIN, Kraken Club/Purgatory Mace, Utsu:Ni/Ichi/Stoneskin spamming Hexa). He's a really good soloer, he usually duos tons of stuff with his BRD fiance. They've duo'd the 'old school HNMs' such as Serket and Roc.       I forgot what it was under, but I think it was 'Tips and Tricks.' I know it'll be expensive and blah to reach the point where you can solo like a l337 person, but don't give up! WHMs also get Reraise II/III, really great for soloing dangerous stuff. I'm planning to level scythe skill with meret so I can become a good melee BLM someday. :d

          funny~ was thinking about posting a topic on "best WHM solo/melee equip".

          Having whm at lv75, you kinda start trying out every possible thing with it. WHM/NIN rocks solo imho, Buffalo's can easily be solo-ed for example (diaII/para/slow/stoneskin. and especially keep Haste on of course), takes longer than other jobs probably but you have about 0 risk of dieing.

          Back to your question, soloing dc's. I think it's possible, I could easily defeat easy prey and get a VT to about 80% HP with WHM/NIN. Also depends on the mob though, if you got a fast-attacking monster which takes your blink off fast you probably get in trouble.

          Biggest problem is your weapon imo. Only 28 mil kraken club and mjollnir (dynamis relic, 28+ mil) can do really better. So if you got like 60 mil, you are a pretty kick-ass solo WHM/NIN ^-^

          Evasion equip -can- be very useful, though not if you fight stronger mobs. I think max evasion on WHM has little effect to decent challenge or maybe even easy prey.

          Best solo equip:
          Clubs (not really realistic): Kraken+Mjollnir
          Clubs (more realistic): Morgenstern (rather new, rare-ex lv72, dmg:27, delay:310, latent: dmg:40 crit.hit.rate +6%), Purgatory Mace
          Clubs (cheap): Darksteel Maul (+1 more expensive)

          Head: Optical Hat (rare-ex) or VE pin (easy buy, expensive though). Optical Hat best choice statwise.

          Neck: Spike Necklace on tougher mobs where eva doesn't matter, otherwise evasion torque or the MP+10 eva+5 one

          Body: Noble's tunic. If you have a vermillion cloak it might be better to get a black cotehardie unless you really need the refresh while fighting.

          Hands: WHM AF mitts

          Legs: Zenith pants. Haven't really found a good solo legs item yet. Anyone suggestions? :3

          Feet: Can't really find much good for this either. Dance shoes got eva+. Cure clogs/errant boots are more PT/Alliance equip.

          Belt: Lots of options here. Sarashi belt gives you haste +5%, though you might want accuracy (life belt acc+10) for stronger monsters. Mithra stone (acc+3 eva+3 def:some) is ok if you don't have much money.

          Cape: there's dodge cape (eva+5), but meh. empowering mantle or bluecape would be ok. hmm or cheviot cape (-5% physical damage), this one's very expensive though

          Ring 1: Serket ring
          Ring 2: Venerer ring (acc+3), STR+5 rings should be good also though

          Earring 1: Suppanomimi (AGI+2 + another Haste+5% for dual wield)
          Earring 2: Fenrir earring is attack+10 during the day, Elusive Earring (eva+5) or MP+.

          Ammo: Fenrir's stone (eva+10 during night)

          so nya. there's a lot of options and it costs a lot of money.
          only things you're really stuck with is crappy solo legs/feet and weapon unless you're very good friends with IGE ;p

          whole post based on WHM/NIN, WHM/BLM can solo easy prey allright if it's sleepable. when you run out of MP, sleep it, rest up, continue killing.

          one final note~ don't let you down by people who yell WHM can't solo. you can solo ok, but we need to go through more expensive equip to be able to do it ok ;p and it takes a while, unless you have those really expensive weapons

            there have been various posts on the BST forums on the usefulness of /bst sub for soloing other jobs. you might want to check that out to see if it suits you.

              /bst is actually doable as long as your bst sub is equal or greater than your main. You only loose a little bit of chr between the jobs. Main problem is, you wont be getting release till 70 and you've gotta get your bst sub just as high or higher than your main for it to work well.

                I tried a lot of this stuff...then I just realized it would be cheaper and less painful to level a real solo job to 75. I've taken up NIN.

                  You could try WHM/PLD or WHM/WAR. If you can get your hands on Jelly Ring, Cheviot Cape, Genbu's Shield, Terra's Staff, Defending Ring (the WHM I mentioned is also 75PLD, that's how he has it...but it's understandable if you don't have it >.>), and Medicine Earring... that's 65% if you exclude Defending Ring and use Club/Shield. You could get 60% if you use Staff Combo and exclude Defending Ring. Bust out Sentinal/Defender and you'll be taking very little damage and could probably solo lots more variable stuff. Equip a Phalanx Ring instead of Defending Ring for +10DEF, you'd be a great tank for duo/trio events. Although, my idea is pretty hard to accomplish... and would require lots of effort and stuff. :/

                      For feet use AF boots...the spell interuption down helps, and a Druid's rope would help a little too maybe..

                            not sure about soloing but defensivelly whm are hecka hard to crack as long as you have a stash of items and no crazy instant death tricks from monsters.

                            Anyone who fights maat should have train their instincts well enough to fend something off.

                            Useful if you end up needing to bid for time.

                            Offensively i would go with an earth staff tp to 100%, shell breaker, then switch to your club of slow death.

                            shellbreaker +dia2 can make your measly attackpower seem a lot more powerful, when you hexa.

                            with the shield change you're slightly better off if you ever train it high enough to be useful.

                            That's about the best defensive alternative to whm. since your evasion is an E and capps at 200, it's pretty crappy. If you sub nin, you also get whatever measely parry to muster. Add to aqua veil and you can hold some NMs for long range help.

                            and why solo with whm, they are the fastest travelers out there.

                            Teleport vhalz + outpost = beat almost anyone to a selected area.

                              Imo, only good for switch in gear when casting like utsu, then flick back to evasion or what ever you have gear when not casting. I still think the AF 1 boots would be more helpful then the 3% haste, its really noticable...at least in my experiances.
