  • Am I at fault?

I had just teleported to Holla and got on a bird to go to Eldieme Necropolis for the Teleport-Mea quest, and I got a tell requesting a raise. I told the person that I was busy at the moment...and I got a nice slap and blacklist.

So, should I have raised that person or...what?

  • #2
    No.

If they Blacklisted you: its their lose, not yours.

What I would do if I got a /slap when asked for a Raise and I say I am busy? I would immediatly say "OK! On my way!" and then just B-list them for the remainder of the evening. Having them wait for you and not know you are not coming is the best actual punishment you can give them.

    EDIT: PS:
I have not added anybody in my B-list perminently. I only use B-listing as a way to shut out harrassements rather than to avoid "jerks". Sometimes some ppl are not in a good mood or are having a bad day. Other times it might not even be them that is playing the character, but someone they know. Things happen. Anyways. I usualy B-list ppl for a night or so. Sometimes I don't hear from them again. Some other times I see them in a party and we just /bow to each and party (either they don't remember me, or they are just not trying to make trouble).

    Just my 2 cents.

Its not your main priority to babysit other people and be there beck and call girl now if it was on the way i would ask for a the gil you spent getting the choco as payment but it would be up to you to grant them the raise but remeber 1st priority is you and no one else in terms of what has to get done, just remember /anon when doing something as for the /slap and the black list, who really cares its not like your going to party with them unless you take a week break and they catch up to your level but none the less your a white mage partys come natural
People look at the world and think why, i look at the world and think why not.

            Definatly not in the wrong.

If it was me that would have been an immediate blist as I don't have the right apptitude to deal with people like them politely and gracefully.

                Icemage's Guide to N00bSpeak, article 271:

                >> Raise @ <pos> plz.

                Translation:

"My time is more valuable than yours. Come here because 60XP is worth more than the 1500 gil you just paid for that chocobo plus 20 minutes of your time."

                ---

I refuse to Raise people I don't know unless I see them on my way someplace and I'm not on a chocobo. I'll occasionally make minor exceptions if I'm not pressed for time and someone is nearby and will get an obvious benefit (i.e. level 51+ who can get a lot of mileage out of Raise III), but even that is situational.

I guess the choice is yours, but I do want to comment on your "NoobSpeak" segment. I mean, what do you want people to do when they need a raise? Not even try to get one? If they got into trouble and someone in their party is in need of a raise, there is nothing wrong with looking for a WHM/RDM/PLD etc that can help them out.

It is a problem if they think anyone MUST raise because they asked them to do it. The rest is all standard. If you need a raise, look around and see if someone is kind enough to help. If all people choose not to help, thier choice. If someone helps and raises, GREAT and /bow /kneel and "Thank You" (and sometimes "You can have this"), and all is well.

Don't call people "Noobs" because they ask for help. We all need somone to lean on in this game...

                  PS:
I do NOT mean this reply as a flame... more like a "hey... be nice!" kind of thing.

I used to be all sweetness and light and go around Raising people. Want to know what it earned me? Lots of whining, lots of wasted time, zero satisfaction, and people who forgot who I was the next time I met them. They're eternally grateful until you're out of sight.

I Raise III'd a level 73 Black Mage on the ferry yesterday because he was stupid enough to get beat down by the Sea Horror (ran outside without Sneak).

Didn't even get a "Thank you".

This is why I don't go out of my way to help people any more. You can thank jerks like the above.

Hmm, the thing about it was, I'm not even sure how he knew I was a WHM unless he did a /sea all whm. When I'm not partying I'm constantly /anon, so it's not like I let my guard down or anything. I raise people like crazy in leveling spots (Dunes, Qufim, Crawler's Nest) just out of kindness... but this guy was near the entrance of La Thiene Plateau and I had just teleported there a few seconds earlier.

But, from what i read, I'm not to blame....oh well. If I see him dead again, I'll start casting raise...but intterupt it and skip away.

He probably knew you were a whm because he saw you had a Hammer that was WHM only, like a maul. I tend to have my Yew Wand Equipped 24/7 for some reason, I just tell people that I'm a BLM when they want a raise and it's too far out of the way.

                          I symphathize (sp?).

I will also admit that me myself do not remember the name of the person that raises me. Sort of a shame that I don't though...

But, in my case, I always try to give something in return (unless I am unable to). Usualy, I give a GIL amount almost equal to the amount of Experience points the raiser saved me. Like if I needed 7000 exp to lvl up, I would give 700 gil to the person that raises me.

I might not remember names, but I at least try to say "hey, you saved me some time and exp, and you used up some time and MP doing it. Here is something for your trouble."

Ice Mage... I like your name. You are one "cold" WHM.

No, you definately weren't wrong. I tend to raise the people I see, (assuming they're not lvl 2 at the entrance to Windurst in Sarutabaruta). I also tend to go /anon if only because I get constant tells for raises (or teleports) no matter where I am, or if I'm in a party or not. I get tells from people to raise them after they've seen me in a zone 10-15 minutes before and who don't ask, but TELL me to come raise them.

WHM is just another job in the game, however, because of raise and teleport, we are often expected to go out of our way to help them, no matter what we are currently doing. It's something (after much frustration) I've learned to accept, but not like. I never see myself not stopping to raise someone (though like Icemage, I tend not to get off a choco to do it), but at the same time, if I am currently busy doing something, then I'm not going to drop everything, travel across one zone or more just to raise a random person.

PS: On the flip side of Icemage's comment about those you raise not remembering you, sometimes it's better that they don't. Some that have remembered me have sent me tells everytime they, a friend, or a party member needed a raise. Which is worse, them not remembering, or constant bombardment to travel across the world at their beck and call?

I know raise is a godsend for a lot of people, but the fact is that there is a shortage of WHM's because not many people have enough balls to have the fate of a party in their hands. That's why you rarely find WHMs and PLDs. The thing that pisses me off is that we're expected to get killed if shit hits the fan....you guys know what I'm talking about, Benediction. Everyone seems to think that being a WHM is an easy job because all we do is stand in the background and heal....WRONG..and then when we screw up because a Screwdriver hit...suddenly we're to blame. With the prices of Raise II/III going up, we're expected to have these spells at the levels we get them. WHMs get the short end of a lot of BS right now, I say we start taking control of parties and tell the Melees who do "all of the work" what to do, or we won't heal.

Sorry about the long rant...I've just been in too many parties where WHM's get no credit.
