I played RDM before and i rather liked it, as well as WHM, why not try both to get a feel for them and then make a choice cause asking here you will get 2 differenct oppinions about the class', but its really entirely up to you.People look at the world and think why, i look at the world and think why not.

/BLM served me well all the way up to 75. I started lvling SMN for fun since I spent all that time fighting avatars, but I'll probably only use /SMN sub for HNM/Dynamis/etc, since I still prefer my trusty /BLM sub for running around doing random things. In terms of xp efficiency, I never had a problem getting chain 5's w/ BLM subbed, unless it was just a poor party setup in general(DRG and SAM don't tank too well, unless the SAM is Micken o.O). Best advice is probably to play with different viable subs and see what works best for you. WHM/BLM is a good starting point, and pretty well balanced as an all-around setup.hi

Can't go wrong with BLM. Like Insanity, I subbed RDM until 10 and from 11~27 (current) I have subbed BLM.
Dezone, which BLM learns at 18, is one of the most useful spell in the game. I also enjoy playing BLM the mostRDM 75, BLM 73, WHM 42, SMN 41, RNG 40, NIN 37, DRK 37, THF 25, WAR 20

Below level 30, it doesn't really matter - /SMN, /BLM and /RDM will all give you more MP and not much else that's worth having. You can Blind with /BLM or /RDM but probably shouldn't because it has more hate than most enfeebles.
At level 30, /BLM gives you Elemental Seal (handy for Silencing caster mobs) and /RDM gives you Fast Cast I (which is always nice). /SMN still isn't giving you anything much except in the rare case you want to carby pull - maybe 10 more max MP than the other two. (But max MP isn't all it's cracked up to be - you can go longer before you have downtime, but then you have *more* downtime, which pretty much cancels it out.)
At level 40, /BLM gains Conserve MP and is the clearly superior choice.
At level 50, /SMN gains Auto-Refresh.
A while ago on these forums someone posted stats on Conserve MP and showed that unless you cast hardly any spells at all, Conserve MP saves you more MP than you would get in the same amount of time from Auto-Refresh.
In other words, any time the difference matters, /BLM is better for keeping your MP up.
However, by level 50, both /BLM and /SMN are also giving you some useful spells: Aerial Armor for /SMN, and Warp, Tractor and Aspir for /BLM (Aspir is another good use for Elemental Seal, btw.)
At even higher levels, you can start to get things like Escape and Dispel from different subjobs. /RDM gets Fast Cast II at level 70.
Basically, none of /BLM /RDM and /SMN is ever conspicuously bad (like those WHM/WAR nobody wants to invite), but some of them may be more beneficial than others depending on level and situation. In particular /RDM will often be overshadowed at higher levels - the convenience of fast cast 1 or 2 is nice, but the better MP supply of Conserve MP or Auto-Refresh is usually better.Defeated: Maat, Divine Might, Fenrir, Kirin, Cactrot Rapido, Xolotl, Diabolos Prime, Kurrea, 9/10 Dynamis Bosses (missing Tav), Promathia, Proto-Ultima, Proto-Omega, 4 Jailers, Apocalypse Nigh, 6/6 Nyzul Bosses
RDM90, PLD90, DRG90, COR90, SCH90, BLU54
All Nations Rank 10, ZMs & PMs Complete, AUMs Complete, Captain, Nyzul Floor 100 (5 Weapons, 4 WS), Medal of Altana, WotG Mission 15, 1/3 Addons Complete, 9/9 Abyssea Main Quests, 6/6 Caturae

at one fafnir... we had fafnir at 1%... both tanks terrorized... everyone else's elemental seals were used up, mp was low, and things weren't looking good
only one elemental seal was ready, a whm/blm
the whm uses elemental seal, sleeps fafnir, and blms use manafont and floods fafnir to high heave and we win the day!
whm/blm = good when things go awryobserve the splendor of ping pong balls!

And Auto-Refresh has one very clear advantage over Conserve MP. It's active between fights and any time when you're not casting.
I started using /smn post-30 for two reasons.
1) I had noticed early on that any blm nukes I wanted to cast weren't worth the gil, rdms were taking care of the enfeebles, and while blaze spikes is cool, it always seems to wear off before I get hate(if I get hate at all).
2) /smn gives a lot more mp and gives the Max MP Boost. In my opinion, nothing is more important for a whm than mp. MND is good, but once a cure spell caps(which they usually do before you start using'em regularly), mnd is useless for it. Plus, /smn gives a higher mnd boost than /blm.
I do use /blm for soloing, though. Blaze Spikes is handy when soloing, as are the extra enfeebles, and against mobs i'm soloing, my nukes usually aren't resisted and while they're not as damaging as Banish II, they recast time is a lot lower. I also get more hp from /blm, which is more useful when soloing than mp, and I think /blm gives better boosts to melee-related stats than /smn. /rdm could also be useful for soloing whm since you'd be able to use en[element]. And, unlike a melee job subbing rdm, your enhancing skill would be far higher than a half-level rdm.Randomn00b gets hit for 5 damage.

Randomn00b: HEAL ME PLZ

Randomn00b gets hit repeatedly for various amounts of damage and eventually dies.
Katrina: Ooops, did you want me to heal you? =O I'm so sorry. You shoulda said something. =(

Max MP is not that important. As long as you are careful with spells, and have enough in the tank to get through a chain 5, max MP capacity beyond that point is meaningless.
Making sure you don't waste MP is the key to playing WHM successfully. I've seen Taru WHM/SMNs who blow through their MP faster than a Galka WHM/RDM at the same level, yet achieve less, due to poor selection of spells.
Sure, everyone wants more MP, and yeah, it's great to have in an emergency. But when you're talking about XP efficiency and intangibles, /SMN doesn't give you a single benefit that eating a pie or other MP-booster food won't until you get to level 50 WHM.
