Cost of Erase and other things...

I was wondering about the cost of Erase. It is a great spell... but is it really woth having at the level you get it at? I havent quite checked the price lately but one of my friends told me it was 200k when they bought it and it has been inflating... Is the spell really worth that much?


And a question about equipment. Im a level 31 WHM/15RDM and I have this equip:

Yew Wand +1
Mohagany Shield
Silver Hairpin
Seer's Robe
Devotee's Mitts
Seer's Pants (?) I dont remember the exact names.
Seer's Boots (?)
2x Tranquility Rings
Friar's Rope
x2 Earrings (The ones that give +4 MP and +4 Darkness I believe)

I was considering some Morion Earrings so I would end up with +3INT along with my +18MND. But is there a better combination of equipment? Please help. ^^

Don't bother with +int as a whm. Also, you don't need to worry about Erase this early. Only thing you will use it on is beetles and crabs. Crabs spam it so fast it becomes inefficient to even try to erase (along with extremely frustrating). So just go for +mp gear first and then +mnd gear.

Most of your gear looks pretty good for early 30's. The biggest thing I'd recommend is getting some of the hume rse gear. It's simply incredible. I know people at 73 who still use the pants from time to time depending on need.

The boots and pants will give you an enormous mp boost, which you really will want. Don't bother questing. It will take too many people too much time. Buy them now, then quest around L50ish and sell back then.

As far as erase. Early 50's is the first time I'd even consider it somewhat useful. Around about 60 you should consider it high on your need list. Past 60 it's worth it's cost and then some. Before then not really.

Erase is only of limited use when you first get it: It lets you XP on Desert Dhalmels in Eastern Altepa Desert (to counter their Defense Down special), let's you use a ninja tank against Spider type enemies. Other than that, it's useful, but not really necessary. If your income isn't up to scratch to buy it, there are far more important things you should be spending money on.

Get it at 50-ish? That sounds alot better than 32. I only have 60k anyways. Ill probably try and buy the RSE legs then. Thanks!

Erase is almost 400k on my server...

Anyway, my best advice would be Hume RSE legs. AFAIK they the best legs you can wear as a mage for a long time (replace with AF, IF AF is useful..applying to mage jobs). I took WHM to 46 without RSE legs (as a mithra..butt 32MP is 32MP) and I hate hate hate myself for not having RSE legs for all those levels I could have and should have used them. ^^

I really think the only reason that Erase is available at such a low level is so that people can sub WHM and get Erase. There's no definite requirement for it pre Lv60.

I would actually disagree with this, but perhaps my situation was different. If you have a great LS or group of friends, at lvl 30ish its really easy to work over the whole RSE quest. We all chose Ordelles for our camp of choice. By having members pair up and camp in the right spots, you can easily cover 90% of the chest spawns. Stay as a PT and fight until you get a key, then on your proper day/time go into the camp strategy. It works great and by the time we were finished with everyone, we got our rdm's entire set in about 2-3 hours (of course she could warp to Jueno, so that helped)

Altepa dhalmels. Their defense down is harsh if you don't have Erase, but take that away and they have nothing - except great exp and good drops, that is.

You can use it against some other things too, but a lot of them are AOE making it a pain to try to get rid of all of them. Mage monsters using bio, dia, shock series, etc., maybe (if you or your RDM didn't silence them first); but you can fight those monsters without it.

Fighting dhalmels without Erase is almost as bad as fighting cockatrices without Stona. Aside from dhalmels, it's a nice extra but parties are used to going without it because it's so expensive. It probably won't kill anyone and it won't keep you from getting invited to parties (a smart party won't take a RDM without Dispel, but against common exp mobs Dispel is much more important than Erase).

However, you might get into more high rank parties if you can put (| Erase |) O in your search comment, and that has its own benefits (usually better-equipped and sometimes more skilled party members, for example). You'll want it eventually, but you may have faster ways of making money if you wait until higher levels. It's up to you.


I got all my RSE by questing it in Shakhrami around level 30 (as RDM). Get a good map that has the chest spawn points, and mark the one-way drops and stuff on it. Gusgen has all those nasty locked doors; I haven't tried Ordelles but some people have gotten good results there. You're a stealth job - use it. You may want to wait until 34 so that you can Warp through sub, or you can just spend the CP on instawarps (or bring along a 40+ BLM friend if you have one). One or two 40ish people to farm keys are helpful (esp a 45+ thf if you know one), maybe your LS can put together an RSE event for your race/sex.

It is almost certainly faster to quest RSE than to raise the equivalent money at level 30. It may require a little more knowledge of what you are doing, though.
