How do you complete quests?

Ok, so I had to stop playing the game for school but I've decided that I'm goin to start up again once I can attain a better graphics card. Well I know I want to start off the first 30ish levels with a White Mage but what after that? Your help is appreciated thanks.

With a lvl 30 whm sub job, many doors open up to you. You are all set to take brd, rdm, blm, or smn to 60 if you want. Good video card is key to being bard. I origonally tried playing it with a gforce2, but all the movement and big fancy effects from bard songs was murder to my frame rate. :sweat: You might consider taking whm to 36 for the teles and blm to at least 17 for warp. 36+whm/blm is the ultimate travel machine and is incredibly useful or all kinds of quests and missions.

So at 18 you think I sub Blm and take that all the way? So I should'nt do any advanced job? Wouldn't monsters sort of target me out if I did that? I was thinking maybe WHM/Summoner but I don't really know what's more effective so advice helps me out.

WHM/BLM, WHM/RDM, and WHM/SMN are the most normal and commonly accepted sj..WHM/BRD works too i guess if you know how to play it right.

WHM/BLM-All around good choice i feel, good for teleport taxi services with Warp, more enfeeblings, Escape, Elemental Seal, Sleep, Conserve MP and all that good stuff.

WHM/RDM-Fast Cast, Dispel, Gravity, Phalanx(?). I feel up to a certain point, /RDM is ok, but after a while i think other subs are better.

WHM/SMN-You obviously wont use Avatar to fight i am pretty sure since summoning skill is limited. At 50 you get Auto Refresh which is the main thing...below 50 i dont reallly like this sub..sure you get more mp but little else to use it on and it isnt that huge a boost...Auto Refresh is the main thing ppl want at lvl 50.

WHM/BRD-After 50 Ballad is useful..and you can Madrigal the melee too, this is obvoiusly better without a BRD in the PT. I aint sure too much since i never used this yet..even tho i am planning to in SPT(once ppl catch up). I am sure Icemage knows alot more than what i ever can know about this since he uses this combination well.

You dont need to necessarily have any Adv job unlocked to not be gimp or etc. The Basic 6 jobs are not any weaker than the others.

A lot of people seem to think that you HAVE to get an advanced job at 30, or that somehow advanced jobs make basic jobs obsolete -- not true. :p WHM/BLM is one of the most useful combinations throughout the entire game. What I would suggest is leveling both of them at the same time when you start out though. You can re-use your armor and weapons and only have to worry about spell prices for a while. Plus, you'll have a subjob all ready as soon as you finish the quest at 18.

Oh, and one thing that Rones left off the list is BST. BST/WHM = best soloer in the game.

Very good overview. A few points I'd clarify:

/BLM is generic, but doesn't see much of any extra use until level 30/15 with Elemental Seal. Tractor, Escape, Elemental Seal, Sleep, Sleepga are your big winners here.

/RDM is solid until 40/20, when /BLM gets Conserve MP and races ahead of /RDM in terms of effectiveness. Fast Cast and Parry skill are both useful, and this sub once again becomes viable at level 64/32 with Dispel. Phalanx is a selfish spell, and really only useful for NM/HNM fights when you expect to take some accidental damage from AoEs.

/SMN doesn't even become useful until 50/25, but Auto-Refresh and Aerial Armor definitely have their uses once you get there. Lots of MP boosting too, which can be a definite help for Elvaan or Galka white mages.

/BRD is really, really busy. Gets some nifty abilities even at low levels (Paeon, for instance), and gets better as you gain levels: Madrigal, Threnody, and finally Ballad at 50/25 and Magic Finale at 66/33. You wouldn't think Finale is useful, but consider that many of your XP opportunities at 70-75 are on Skeletons or Weapons, it becomes extremely useful to have. I get a 99% dispel success rate against these two enemy types when singing Finale with a Bard subjob.

Overall, it's all a matter of preference, play-style, and in some cases, the specific level that you're at. Most players won't have the energy to level all of the above jobs, but none of them is truly bad - they just offer different things to different players.

Can you tell me how to do that? Do I go to the mog house and go to change jobs? So I'd start out with White Mage and lvl that a little bit, then go back to town and change to Black for a while and work that up to 18? Is that what you're saying?

Yes, you can change jobs any time in your mog house. Level WHM up to 8 using your starting gear and a staff (you're going to have to fight, so a staff is better than a wand). At level 8 you can wear a tunic and slacks, etc. So at WHM 8, switch to BLM and level to 8. Then you can get rid of your starting gear and both jobs will be in tunic gear. If you take both jobs to 10, then you can pick one and to party with it, and you'll be set with your subjob ready to take you to 20. I hope that explanation makes sense -- I just woke up so I'm groggy.

Be aware though that leveling whm OR blm is very tedious at the low levels. When you start out, you pretty much solo to 10, and it gets very, very slow. Just be patient and you'll get there, and remember you'll go faster killing easy mobs instead of hard ones where you have to rest all the time. Oh, and never leave town without signet!

So at lvl 10 I'd take one untill 18 then make that my main one and sub the other one from then on? I think that's the only thing I'm unclear on. Thanks

I would assume that he means you level up your subjob too once you get a sub, since you dont want an underleveled sub for too long. I would personally take one to 18, then take the other to 18, then go with one to 37, then take one to 75 >>


Ex:
BLM > 18
WHM > 37
BLM > 37
WHM > 75

Never underlvled that way and i usually just keep my original gear until i have no more need of it.
