Kraken Club

Do any of you White Mages have a Kraken Club? I'm wondering if it's worth saving for. Would it, at level 75, allow me to solo AF key mobs, an activity I currently cannot do.

Any thoughts on this? It would take me a few months to save up and buy it, and I'm wondering if it's worth the effort, or if the improvement in output isn't really all that much versus a Darksteel Maul.

the TP gain on it is absolutely ridiculous, but I've only seen it used by Paladin's (NewCompany ruining King Arthro's shit had like 6 paladins all weilding kraken clubs spamming moonlight and flashing), Ninja's, and Warriors. I've not seen a WHM weild it. Most people that have one say that the TP gain is insane, but the damage sucks. I would imagine that it would allow you to solo AF key droppers...and I'm surprised that you can't already. I (at lv70 blm) can pretty easily solo them (provided I don't get any links). Try subbing RDM, and using stoneskin/phalanx/aquaveil/blink to absorb hits, and any time you get in trouble, sleep the mob, regen yourself, and continue.

I've borrowed it from a friend once. It's quite fun, and how often you hit is absolutely insane =p

The TP gain is great, but the damage stinks. When i used it, the most i'd get from a 300tp hex was around 350.

One of the upsides is you and a friend (monk for example) can single handedly do a 2man-level 3 renkei.

Hex> Something > Black Halo for example. The TP gain is that fast.

You should be able to solo AF keys w/o one, you might have to invest in melee gear like snipers or whatnot. Nin, blm, or rdm sub would probably be wise too =)

wouldnt be of any real use to a whm unless you subbed nin so that you could ws with a stronger club. fun for sure, but not really useful...ive seen pampa, a fully decked out whm on midgard farm goobs using it -_-

if youre concerned about soloing coffer mobs...should be able to do that pretty easily without one :x but if not a kraken should do the trick yeah...

Thanks for all the great feedback. Yeah I guess I should work on getting nin to 37. It's just such a painful job to me as a caster.

Guess the kraken is more a fun item than anything else. Maybe dual kraken and darksteel would be neat though!

It's 15 mil on Bismarck, but I've really got everything I want that's purchaseable. Only ex items left. Just trying to figure out if it's a total waste or not.

Someone who has the money and understands that if dropped it'd go to a far better ls use in the hands of a war or drk.

Incorrect. Maybe not on *low* HNM, but on anything worthwhile...they'll need voke, as well as the other abilities that Warrior offers them.

Please read my post. I'm well aware that it's rare lol.

Darksteel is short for Darksteel Maul, a club, which would be dual wielded with a kraken club.

As far as pld, as fun as it would be I'm honstly not sure how much good it would do a pld. The only point I can see would be to sub nin and dual it with a sword, to spam spirits. But you'd lose an awful lot from /war I'd think.

Not to say it wouldn't be a waste on a whm as well.

Atropos basically said it. PLD/NIN really only good for low HNM, such as taking Serket with only a few people. I have seen Amikiri tanked by a PLD/NIN before though, but a good number of trick attacks are necessary and time to let the paladin build hate before nuking.
