  • Advice on how to lvl new whm?

Ok I've finally hit lvl 18 with my BLM. Had some help from a lvl 45 Rdm.

Now I want to lvl whm to 15 or so and then rdm to 15 or so too. But right now lvl whm is what I want to do.

I have nothing for a lvl 1 character. No spells, no lvl 1 wands. Everything I have is around lvl 15 to 18 for my blm.

So what do I need to buy? What should I do?

This is my only second job. I've only played BLM (and I was away from the game for 6 months). Please... any advice would be good.

    Hello.

All I can recommend is if you are going WHM then head to Port Windurst (AH is more expensive but do-able if you are not in Windurst) and buy the EQ on sale that is there.

All of the EQ at level one is of equal "worth" as any other piece of EQ. The choices you have are very slim and as a WHM you just want cheap and cheaful +MND +MP EQ which is all freely avaiable.

Your BLM sub will be very helpful to you and make leveling much faster than if you had been WHM first. Just don't get too overconfident in how strong your BLM magic is as it is capped to half.

Now whm don't attack so how do I lvl? Do I need an attacking staff or something?

lvl 1-5 is so gay you will die of boredom.

at lvl 5 get a hammer and a shield , it will help you a lot.

EDIT: i got question now that i think of it , is it better for whm's to use hammers throughout their career or wands? or staves?

You can either just wack things with your club while curing yourself, or find a partner.

I leveled in a duo of WHM+BLM for both my main and sub job through the early levels. It actually works out great because we could just stand apart and juggle the mob between us. Those 10 or so levels went flying by very quickly.

i agree with the above posts totally first 5 levels are gay as anything... i'm part of sandy and got all my stuff from ah but i guess that wasn't a good thing... lol

however, once u get all ur eq just go start wacking things that decent challenge or under... i prefered even match. but u choose. you'll level up in no time. once u get to lvl. 5 u can start partying or keep lvling. all up to u. i recommend soloing.

            have fun and good luck!

Hammers are for the most part useless in an exp party, you have no business meleeing. Use wands with +mnd whenever you want to enfeeble. At 51+, you will be using elemental staves also such as dark staff and light staff and you macros most likely to switch between your weapons. I carry 4 weapons atm, +mnd club, dark staff, light staff, and a high dmg meleeing staff for when I'm solo killing too weak stuff.

Having leveled WHM to 9 on my other character, and NOT being of the opinion that WHMs should sit out entirely...

At level 1, go with a Maple Wand, just for the hell of it - the extra little bit of MND will help, but not a whole lot. In addition, pick up a shield as well (since there are BLM shields out there now, it's worth leveling up your shield skill JUST IN CASE).

At level 5, invest in both an Ash Pole and a Bronze Hammer, and start leveling up your staff skill if necessary. The difference in damage between the two of these is relatively small (on Easy Prey, it averages about 3 more damage with the pole), but it's a good idea to have both of these capped if possible.

At level 10, make your decision - do you want to be one of the more typical "sit in the back" WHMs, or do you want to melee for the rest of your foreseeable WHM career? If you want to melee, invest in +1 MND+ rings every time a new set becomes available, and stick with poles and hammers, along with the highest-end mage armor (+1 tunics, shields, etc. - do NOT invest in 1:1 HP->MP conversion equipment unless you're either Elvaan or Galka, as +1 hairpins and Energy Earrings/Rings +1 will give you more effective MP boosts for less HP spent, and meleeing WHMs will need the extra HP for the hits they take). Otherwise, stick with the wands with good MND+ (you can now go with the regular MND+ rings if you want to save some money) and go with armor that gives MND+ and MP+ bonuses in general.

No flames about this, please - I know most people don't think WHMs are meant to melee, but they're quite capable of pulling off damage on a par with some of the lower-end melees (Dragoon comes to mind here, heh) with slightly less risk on their own, and slightly more risk in EXP parties (hint: you'll need to find a tank who's willing to let you take a few hits as well so you know whether or not it's actually *safe* to melee against what you're EXPing on).

at lvl 5 you get banish aswell, and that helps a bunch.

If you are serious about being whm ignore MDenham advice on how to act in a party. That kind of stuff might cut it in the terrible parties you get in valkurm and sometimes qufim, but that horrendous playstyle gets you a quick boot later.

                    No flames about this, please
Sorry, you can't call time out whenever you please. Say something extremely ignorant and you will get flamed.

I have to agree with not attacking as a whm. Sure it's needed from lvl 1 to 10, but after you really need to sit back and do your job.

The main reason I am lvling my whm is to get the skills for the magic. My ultimate goal is Rdm/blm but I've heard that whm is a good way to go first. So it is unlikley i will take white higher than lvl 20, but maybe to 37.

Once I have my whm to lvl 16 i'm moving to rdm and then we'll see where I go from there.

I also echo the sentiment of the two poster above.

Please do NOT melee as a WHM. If you want to melee for a while then RDM may be better suited to you. RDM can melee with moderate efffieciency during the lower to mid levels.

As for a sub with RDM, BLM and WHM are equally good subs. If you pick BLM sub remember you can still heal ^^

I thought I would loose interest and find the game boring. But with the thought of building Rdm up and whm. Plus the posibility of using non magic classes (which i've not done yet) I am extreamly excited. This game is one of the best ever made.

For rdm <50 whm is probably your better sub. For rdm 50+, blm's conserve mp, warp, and escape give it an edge over whm sub. So you should be fine using lvl 20 whm until you switch it to a blm sub later.
