Plz help!Scared to be a WHM :/

Hey!I'm sorta a n00b ,because my brother just introduced me to the game.I decided to be a Taru WHM seeing that I like to be a supporter rather than an attacker.I'm currently lvl 9 and I love the job so far.The thing I'm scared about and that I need insight on is that I'm kinnda scared :/I mean if I dont do a good job everyone wil die anjd I'll get yelled at.I consider myself a good player but I dont know bout other people. Should I be consernd.Also I currently have a 56k connection and I get a "Lag" sometimes.I convinced my family to get DSL and the modem should be here about next Tuesday.Should I wait till then to start training with others?Plz help.

Don't be scared about being a white mage, as long as you aren't a little bitchtaru about things like curing a pld because they have cure, or trying to take over a group because they are the leader.... Being a white mage is hard at first, here's some hints:

Use Apple Pies, relatively inexpensive and +25mp
Use hairpins, don't worry about the -hp, you won't get hit that much if you have a good tank.
Update spells, not armor.
Have fun. You get A LOT of party invites really quick.

It's super stressful at first, no doubt. After 5-10 levels with parties you get used to it though. Just be nice, pay attention, do your best, and accept that people will die sometimes no matter what you do and you'll do fine. Make good macros and get used to them and the job becomes much easier.

Thanks for your advice ^^ I'm a very nice (maybe too nice) taru so I guees i'll be ok.Also about the DSL thing should I wait till I get it cuz If I have lag during a fight in a party i wont be able to cure.

Nah you can run on 56k right now. You are probably not even out of Tahrongi yet. There isn't a whole lot of lag there. It will get a lot worse whenever you go to Qufim or Crawler's Nest. But you will get lag even on DSL. Turn your filters on and you should be ok. To turn them on hit "-" then go to Config and I think it is filters after that. But turn the ones you don't need on.

Now as far as being a whm, it's an easy and hard job. You will definately have to get used to people dieing, and get used to the fact that you will die. It's going to happen. People die that's part of the game. The hardest thing about whm is deciding if your going to cure when you know your going to get hit. You will see what I mean later on. When the mob is standing in fron of you and everyone in your party is damn near dead. Do you use Curaga or not. That is something that you are going to have to figure out yourself.

I will say though pay attention to your tanks HP. You are going to end up fighting things that can drop a tanks HP from full to half and even further later on. Just pay attention.

And above all just because you can Cure II or Cure III etc. Doesn't mean that you should use that one. Those spells create a lot of hate and when you use them you are asking to be bitchslaped.

i know how ya feel ^_^ whm can seem scary at first. It feels like everyone is counting on u and the whole party's life is in your hand's. Just realx. Its not at all scary as it may seem. Just cure the tank and all who need it around u. Dont get distracted by what your ls, or friend is trying to tell you because it only takes a second for the battle to turn around. Just remember that if someone dies, its not always your fault. people die, and as stated before its part of the game. Remeber that a whm need to keep the pt alive at all costs. If your to scared to cure because of hate and your party members die, u will most likely die also. So dont be scared to sacrifice ur own life for the good of the entire party ^^. I got a quick question about WHMs in PTs. Do you cast debuffs? Is so, how many and what are some good ones? And if theres a RDM, do you let him/her cast ure debuffs instead?

When I leveled my whm, I tried to use Dia, and either slow or paralyze. I let the rdm use the other, blind, poison, etc. I did that mostly because I had max'd enfeebling, and whichever I picked would land every time.

Leveling a whm the first time around, you definately want to enfeeble at least dia and one other spell, so that you can keep your enfeebling up. It's not really neccessary, but it is certainly helpful at times when you don't have a rdm with you. After lv60, you won't be able to land anything anyways, but it's nice to be able to land some spells before then.

Ok, on my ls they say that DSL does not speed up the game,is this true?Also I was thinking about being a blm and subbing whm because if blm is easier than whm, i still get to train my sub WHM so i'll still get the benifits of helping while also lvling faster with blm.But whm's get to Teleport and i'd like to do that too.This is my last questions, I promise ^^

Ok here goes my little helpful bit.

Dsl won't speed it up much. The servers cap the connections so dsl cable dial up all going to get you about the same amount of lag. I myself have went from dial up to cable and I still get lag and connect issues.

BLM and WHM are two very different jobs if you ask me. The job of a whm is to support and help... as a BLM you will be a primary damage dealer in the group. Yes with a whm sub you can back up heal but as a blm people are going to want you for damage first.

If you like to be the one in the thick of the battle tearing stuff up.. blm will be ok for you.. but by no means is it "easier" you are the weakest thing out there.. take to much aggro your dead. You dying might be the end of your party as well depending on what you are fighting. Or if you don't play it right you cause the healer to waste tons of mp trying to keep you alive which tends to get him killed. So if you like being a healer.. then by all means be a whm..

As for the above stuff.. you will have great nights.. and you will have bad ones.. some nights you will be saving the world others your heal will hit a sec to late and someone dies. In the lower levels someone might yell at you for it.. if its your fault or not. There are things you can't control. I was in a pt lastnight and a pugil used screwdriver on a pt member and did 277 pts of damage which was like 2 more damage then they have HP.. No heals no nothing would have saved him, he was ment to die and you can't let that stuff get to you.

If you have a macro setup in a way ur comfortable with it.... also using F1-F6 to target ur PT members... u should be fine in the early levels... ^^
