Maat Fight: Healing Staff vs Earth Staff?

i am a level 69 WHM on serpah getting ready for my fight against maat. i have purchased my RSE belt 70, earring 70 and ring 50. i am also lucky enought that Roc gave me a Healing Staff the first time i killed him. My bard friend has an Earth Staff i could borrow. Do you feel that it would be more beneficial to have the +10% cure potency from Healing staff or the Damage Reduction from the Earth Staff?

Having not done the fight, but reading the reports i am thinking that the Earth Staff would be better, but some info from people that have done it would be much appreciated. Thank you.

either one would be fine. personally i would lean towards the healing staff...50 more mp and more powerful cures will make it hard to lose. as a taru you might feel more safe using the earth staff, but i think the earring should be good enough.

20% less damage is better than 10% healing.

used with earring you get -50% damage.

I won first time with earth staff medicine earring+ring steppe rope steamed crab and one yag drink, 250mp left.

i started with healing staff, astrals, and republic gold medal. i switched to earth staff, JSE ring, chersobyl ring and holy phial after i spent the extra mp from the starting gear.

Maat did 80-100 damage and 140-170 damage crits with earth staff on. i used 11 mulsum, hi-potion and 2 yagudo drinks. i did used benediction, but not divine seal.

Maat did not cast silence on me, but he paralyzed me once. Luckily it was removed with no paralysis taking place. I don't understand how this can be true, but i don't think he did any WS to me.

i ended with 220 hp and 60 mp.

the way enemy tp is calculated is..

amount you gain+1=enemy tp

assuming that maat, besides normal mobs, gains tp this way it would be impossible for him to use a WS on you. But i'm no where near genkai 5 so i'm not sure abgout maat's tp equation

they also get tp from doing attacks on you. Cast dia on a mob, and it'll eventually do a ws (even if you don't engage it).

hmm. well i did just stand there and get punched in the face for 5 minutes. i guess he didn't punch me enough hat he got any TP. maybe he did one weak WS that i didn't notice. i am pretty sure all the times i got in trouble were due to critical hits interrupting me. oh well, all that matters is that i am done^^
