im lvling a whm to get it subbed for bst and i have noticed some things taht have given me a lot more respect for white mages.
1.) its a very stressful job trying to keep everyone standing, especially under-equipped tanks.....
2.) people blame you for everyhting that goes wrong while they are playing. for example our pt wanted to fight pugs in valkurm dunes and i objected saying screwdriver would kill our tank in hit and he said to quit bashing him and he would be fine as long as i payed attention. well what do ya know, he gets screwdrivered for 240 dam and whipes him out and he immediately say "Ever tried do your job whm , ya know your supposed to keep me alive." i didnt know how to respond to this. wonder how many other white mages get this all the time.

there are other things but i wont bother to mention them, this is more of shout out to just give some props to all of the white mages out ther who go through this kind of stuff. you guys RULE!!!!

just n00bs being n00bs. if you heal them to the best of your ability, you're doing fine...and besides, nothing you can do will keep a tank from being 1-shotted. i mean he has 200ish hp and he eats a 200ish damage attack...what can you do?

i experienced something similar today, in ifrit's cauldron fighting bees for the coffer key. they use pollen a whole lot to heal themselves for 500-1k+ hp and also, they like to final sting when they have 30%+ hp. well, our tank is a 58 pld with about 1100 or so hp. final sting did anywhere between 600 and 1100...he died 3 times while still at nearly full hp, so we killed bats instead or, if we killed bees, i'd pull aggro on purpose near the end (since i have blink and stoneskin on) by nuking the crap out of the suckers...dropping their hp low quickly = weaker final stings.

If you put any one of those guys in your job position they wont know what the hell to do, people dont realise what they are saying and if they say crap like that then they deserve to die, if somebody said something like that to me id say yeh f**k you, im glad your dead then get him kicked outa the party or disband the party yourself.

If it makes you feel any better, people who don't hold their tongue almost always regret it. This is especially true when the person they just yelled at responds gracefully.

I should know, I've failed to hold my tongue many times. ^^

I for one am glad to have played as much WHM as I have. I think it makes me a better tank to have experienced the other side. I know the challenges the WHM faces trying to keep me alive, and it helps me to know what I can do to try and make that job easier.

I think that anyone who plans on playing a tank job to high level should spend some time playing WHM, just for the experience.

Of course, the converse is true as well... I think having spent a lot of time playing a tank job helps me to be a better WHM as well, because it has taught me a lot about hate management and how I can keep the tank healthy without interfering with his ability to hold aggro.

It's always good to broaden one's horizons... sometimes the lessons learned come back in surprising ways.
