  • Mid game WHM responsibilities.

I was leading a party last night of 54-55s towards Cape Terrigan for some EXP. The team had a WHM and a RDM in it for sneak and invis.

We got through Kuftal no problem at all and got to Cape Terrigan. Much to my surprise only 1 out of the 4 melee actually had Silent Oils + Prism Powders on them. We sneak + invis'd up and ran across Terrigan to the beach. Yes you know what happened next. All the melee slap bang in the middle of the beach area start shouting "Sneak Wearing" or "Invis Wearing". Surrounded by nasty MOBs I try and recast but it all goes the way of the pear. Well me and one other melee die in the process and I politely ask the melee to please carry Silent Oils + Prism Powders with them from now on.

One melee, who shall remain nameless, blatantly refused to buy anything as it was firmily "The Mages Job To Sneak Invis" him. Apparently my simple request is just as bad as a WHM not curing him in battle (something I seriously considered at the time).

Was I unreasonable to expect the melee to carry the these items when running across a very hard (and relatively unknown) zone for us? I have never seen this behaviour and lack of concern for group safety in any JP group I have been in but it seems quite prolific in NA parties.

Unreasonable ? No, me do nots think so.

Me never see JP act like that either.

it is not your job to sneak/invis anyone but yourself, at any level. casting those spells on other pt members is a courtesy, especially when both sneak and invisible are required. youre putting yourself in danger. it is fair to expect the mages to do the initial casting of si for other pt members, however after the mages themselves are invised, it is the responsibility of other pt members to take care of their own si.

if its just sneak, there really isnt much of a problem since you can recast that without cancelling your own.

however, i would consider leaving any pt that demanded me to si them, especially if it was more than one melee that came unprepared with oil/powder. terrigan in particular is quite dangerous if youre expected to take care of someone who didnt come prepared.

^I tried that in Yhoator... -_- I got lucky that it sticked on my ONLY party member.(The others ghetto suicided, or what you may know as "D4.")

Casting invisible one someone while you're invisible at low levels is dangerous for two reasons..

1.) Your enhance isnt that high most likely for them to stick long enough. And invis wears off whenever you cast something.

2.) And both will eat mp really fast, if they wear off too often. . .

Now I can understand them not having silent oil/prism powder cause they cost alot of gil... Powder alone is 6k on rag, 7k on cerberus..(I have characters on both.)

Silent oil I think is 4k..

Yea they cost, but since you can't group sneak or invis, it's just seems right to spend the money. The healers are concerned about your safety...but remember the solo days... You STILL have to be concerned of your own safety.

This happened to our set party once, in kuftal, when elementals were up. Never again. We all, even mages, carry oils and powders at all times.

At these levels it's just a must. Moving a whole group while casting sneak and invis is very hard. We try to do it to save their money, but if they need it, they have it.

everyone should carry oils and powders for when shit happens. i didnt carry em before, but when i died three times doing windy rank 8 in temple of uggelepeh, i swore to always have it on me even as a whm from here on. later in the game, there are lots of things at aggro magic casting and sneak invis is just so tempermental with its duration time. oils and powders seem to work better. and you never know when guivre will pop on you running trough kuftal. good to have a powder to throw on if he does and run like hell

actually, i was helping some of my LS members get a coffer for AF in the Necropolis, and i cast sneak/invis on one member, we had one sneak/inviser for each non sneak/invis.. when it was going to wear off they told me, we stopped and recast.. it worked pretty well for most of the time

When you get to an area where stopping for more than a handful of seconds is unsafe, such as terrigan, or there are elementals everywhere, like kuftal in bad weather, you will understand the paramount need for oils and powders on everyone. ^^

yeah...and for the most part, eldieme is sneak only (except bombs). sneaking an entire group is fairly simple, especially if there's a 1:1 sneak caster:melee ratio. you just need about 5 seconds of safe time to recast it. however, areas like terrigan or deeper parts of davoi and oztroja are pretty scary, since if both sneak and invis fail on the melee, you have to stand visible, endangering yourself for about 20 seconds recasting those spells....thats a very nerve wracking 20 seconds... monsters could start moving around and aggro and what not when you're casting.

whats also irritating is when i'm paired up with a melee whom i'm supposed to sneak and invis and they turn back and run 30 seconds to a safe spot, barely making it before sneak or invis wears off while there's a safe spot also 10 seconds ahead...then i have to run all the way back to sneak/invis them again. most melees can make more money than mages easily...they should use that extra cash for a stack of oils and powders every now and then .

                    I am a 58RDM and a 49 Sam.

No issues when I am on RDM, I really take care of myself and anyone that sticks near me as long as I dont put myself in danger.

As my sam, if I die I die and it is my loss. If I was stupid enough to rely on someone I dont know to sneak my through a zone then I deserve to die. I carry oils and powders at all times on both toons.

Mages HAVE to pay large ammounts of money for spells that they CANNOT sell back in the AH. That money is gone forever. Mele's, with the exception of nin and rng, cant sell just about everything they ever spent gil on back at the ah.

Mele can afford oils and powders. If they die because they were unprepared to go somewhere they went, it sucks, but it is not the mages fault for not holding their hands.

Man if brds could just get groups sneak/invis songs.
