Stupid ass question about seeing HP in Alliances

I noticed in the How Hard is WHM AF3 thread there is a picture attached of the aftermath of the battle. In that picture the HP / MP of all alliance members is fully visible.

I admit I don't form alliances very often but I seem to remember not being able to see the HP/MP bars of the other teams in the alliance. Do I have some kind of "anonymous mode" turned on or something that prevents me from seeing other team members HP bars?

Your alliance member's HP guages disappear when you open any of your menus. So if you go to open your magic menu to cure, and wait to select a target, you won't be able to see their health... I always thought that was an odd design choice.

Their HP/MP bar will disappear if they are in a different area too.

Also I think it's just HP you can see. I don't think you're able to see alliance members MP bars.

And just on the note of WHM AF3, will someone tell me why exactly people find it so hard? I managed to kill the Marquis first time with a party of only five, MNK71, WHM57, WHM59, RDM63 and BRD64.

"party of only five, MNK71," i think this may have had something to do with it, i belive those encounters are tuned for lvl 50-60ish ppl having someone 10 lvls over the recommended lvl kinda gimps the encounter

Wierd, I seem to remember a post on these forums where someone said it was difficult even with a full party of Lv70+s in the alliance. Still, it's out of the way now.

i was lvl 52 blm when i was asked to help with this battle. my spells were all doing under 50 damage, except for firaga II which did maybe 100 or so damage. it was the most depressing thing ever...also, the marquis hits hard as hell, our main tank had to have cure III and IV constantly spammed on him. insane battle.

Is the Marquis a bone type monster? If so, a lvl 71 Monk will sneeze on him, and knock half his life off, even when most damage dealers are struggling to even hurt him.

I love fighting Bones when a Monk; they die so quickly.

yes, indeed he is a shadow, high magic defense as well as perma-shell effect. never ever wears off...a non resisted nuke will do 50%. i gave up nuking and just debuffed and cured.
