Where and how do you level a WHM up to 10? I will have my 18RDM subbed to it, but still, seems like very hard to solo...

Just grab a club and a sheild and go at it solo style. If you can find a damage dealer (not a tank, tanks are worthless as partner at that level), go for it as a pair.
Really nothng to it, since the pre-teen monsters are very, very easy. It's just a matter of killing them quickly enough.Junior Member?

If I run into and I have some time I can PL you if you like.
But yeah you want a hammer and the best shield you can get, Lauan -> Maple at 8. Around Bastok stick to DC saplings and vultures. The DC quadavs may have their way with you. If you can get a flat DC lizz (not dc+) you should be able to take them too. I don't give 1-5 advice because that's terribly simple. But from 5-10 is where it gets slow.
Vomp hill is also nice if you can handle the gobs. If you can't just avoid them and kill hornets and sheep. Remember sheep are undercons so be careful.
Use Dia and Paralyze and you should be okay.

i took a diference aproach that worked pretty well, i used the Ash Pole and was always sure to bust out Paralyze and Dia before attacking. Worked out well, could take on Even match Yagudo scribes and acolytes pretty easy cause of their low HP. Other then that i just stuck to decents and went nice and smoothly.
Oh BTW i had already lvled BLM with my staff through these lvls also, so my Staff skill was maxed throughout my 1-10 whm lvls.
But really the best equipment you can arm yourself with is Persistance
Fuk it, Cut the cord...

Okay a whm can take decent preys just buff your self up (With protect). Then start the fight with a Paralyze and then do Dia if you have rdm subbed I think you can do Poison and stack up it up with Dia. As for curing you need to know when is the right time to cure, don't wait when your hp is half way and your trying to cure and you get hit while getting cure and you'll get inturrpeted thus it will continue over and over till you die, so just wait till you get hit then quickly do a cure thats what I do . Don't use staffs use clubs they deal more damage the lvl 5 one should do you fine until lvl 10 then you'll start ptin.Blm.75 - Whm.56 - Mnk.58 - Rdm.48 - Nin.37 - War.37 - Drk.37

I just hit ten earlier today as a White Mage without a sub. I just killed enemies that gave a little experience. It took me a long time to do it, and hopefully it will pay off.
If you are in Windurst, go to West Sarutabaruta near the outpost and just kill enemies around there, that is what I did.-----Crafts-----

heh, i'll throw my 2 cents in here.
1. Get a bronze hammer the minute you can (lvl 5). Until then, use the ash club
2. Use the best shield you can.
3. "Protect" if you can.
4. Throw down Dia and Paralyze
5. Buy a stack of bubble chocolates or some juice to minimize down time.
6. If you have subjob access, sub monk for the extra HP.
I was able to solo my whm to 10 on decents and evens in the sandy region pretty easily with this setup.
Thanks Yyg!

My two cents, as I just got LVL 9 a night or two ago (bastok):
Buy hammer at 5, definetly.
Get a 'Protect' spell ASAP, be it protectra or whatever. Anything helps.
If you don't have 'Poisana', you will die a lot.
Get a shield.
Quadavs are OK if you banish them first, but wait till lvl 7. 5 & 6 will get you killed (trust me).
At lvl 8, find a party to go to Kondestat Highlands. Godly amounts of XP to be had. (I leveled from a fresh 8 to 9 in about an hour). But don't fight the goblins.
Heal random people: You need your healing stat as high as possible to keep from dying (yourself or your party).
Dia is more useful than you think.
Keep your spells up to date, including the 'bar's.
That's all, hope it helps!

most of the bar- spells are not needed till later. The only bar spell i would really suggest getting early on is barstonra, barwatera and barfira. Barstonra is very useful against worms which you may be fighting in Korr-whatsit and/or the Maze of Shakhrami. Barwatera should be useful for fighting Pugils in Valkurm.... screwdriver is a water-based attack iirc. And barfira can help alot versus gobs, i think one did as little as 1* damage to me in yhoator with barfira+shellVermillion Cloak O ^^

I've had to give this strategy out to a bunch of linkmates this month, and it always amazes me that no one does it:
For any mage class soloing or pulling
1. Stand at MAXIMUM targetting range.
2. Start inching forward while hitting the attack button. (Keep autorun off for this).
3. As soon as you draw your weapon, attempt to cast your slowest casting debuff to pull the monster. (For most of us, this is Paralyze).
3. The monster will immediately start running toward you when this debuff lands, taking one to two hits before it can respond.
4. Debuff as normal. Nuke when appropriate or if melee isn't doing the job.
This should get you through the first 10 levels of any mage job easily. When you gain access to Bind, you can try dropping that in as your first debuff and then following it up with paralyze, slow, etc. As a WHM, you probably don't want to start chaincasting Banish on monsters, it'll burn more mp than it does in damage. Definitely toss one or two over the course of the battle to keep the skill raised, but don't try to play BLM.
Never run up on the monster, let it come to you. The defender always attacks first, so this is a free hit.
If you take on a RDM or WHM classed monster, try tossing lots of removable debuffs on it. On monsters like goblin leechers and the like, the enemy will spend more time trying to remove blindness or poison than it does curing itself.
If you can use a shield, do so. It never hurts to get in an extra chance at avoiding an attack.
Hope that helps.
