  • Maxing out Subjob

Im not a whm, but my girlfriend who plays a whm is.
Well heres my question and such. Shes a 30 whm, and she has the facination about summoner (its mainly carbuncle). But she refuses to max out her blm as a sub, because she hates it. So im like ok, so summoner. Then she says no i dont want to do summoner, because its hard to get a pt after level 15, if you dont have all the summons.
So basically she wants to level summoner to 15 and leave it as her whm subjob, and then level whm to 60-70 to get the summons. Now will this really gimp her (i really think it will gimp her a lot), but in the sence, she was telling me that whms will get a pt tell no matter what the subjob so i just wanted to verify that. And also, how hard is it to get summoner to level 37ish without any of the "main" summons? Well thanks for the replys.

Getting to 60-70 with lvl 15 sub won't happen. She is right she will still get lots of invites early on, but past 40 it will slow down a lot. There are very few parties at each lvl range past ~30. Having a gimped sub will add lots of downtime as you try to get into those parties. For her to get parties would be very tough.

On the otherhand, its not impossible to lvl smn to 25 without the other summons. Just try to act as a full whm. Valkurm and qufim are usually desperate enough for healers that they aren't too picky. Until 22 and you get cure II from whm subbed you might have to act as a backup healer though. Try to lvl your smn up to at least 25 so you get mp regen, and then she can probably get whm to 60ish without much trouble.

sence, she was telling me that whms will get a pt tell no matter what the subjob so i just wanted to verify that
That's the pre-30 world. After 30, melees switches to advanced jobs, thus the 1-30 range has a surplus of melees and their is a shortage of healers(at least on most servers I hear about), but past 30 with less players, whms aren't in as much demand and most mages don't switch to an advanced job so their numbers don't shrink any to match to the smaller player base like with melees. Those random invites really slow down after qufim and kazham.

dont take this as encouragement, but i leveled my whm to 60 with a lvl 17 smn sub. without any problems. i started since release, and had been keeping up with friends, so there was a small community type feel, and no one really cared that i didnt have my sub up to date since i was able to do my job. playing late nights, i consistenly got jp invites despite my gimped sub. its possible they thought i would change my sub before exping, but well...too late they already invited me xD.

but just because you can do something doesnt mean you should.

as far as leveling smn goes...getting to 30 is not a problem even if you are carbuncle only. again...erm...i did that. :dead: most of the time i was simply the main healer and i did my job well enough. after i got garuda, i went back to level smn and guess what? i was pretty much doing the same thing. of course aerial armor is useful, but i certainly couldve done my job without it. mostly i summon only because i have nothing better to do with all that mp.

Ok thanks for the replys. Just one more question.
As a taru whm she naturally has more mp than lets say, a elvaan or galka whm. But lets say both at level 50 (the taru and the galka whm's). And the taru has a level 15 summoner subjob, and the galka has a maxed out sub? Would the taru still have more MP, as well as PT invites?

Yes. Taru would have 578, Galka 326 + a big boost from RSE most likely, but still less than taru.
          as well as PT invites?
Maybe. Many players take subjob lvl as a sign of player skill. An underlvled sub hints at a lack of dedication, slopiness, laziness, or lack of skill to many. It would be a toss up, but I would take the galka whm/smn because he would have mp regen while the taru wouldn't and I always choose players with appropriate fully lvled subs first.

few specifics i look at when looking at subs is how fitting/leveled they are, at 40/20 anything less than /20 will cost themselves the pt space, imo, and it just gets worse, however i also am leveling my bard now. i leveled whitemage in steps, in the begining, to 16 for curaga, at 40, 21 for regen, then at 50 to 25 for raise, i'll probably level it again when i get to 60 to 30, etc

i was curious about which would get invite to taru with under leveled sub or gala with good sub so i ask higher lvls in ls.
They like me all said they would take the gala.
Like Rones said, if they have a terribly underlevled sub theres a good chance there just to lazy to level it.

I saw from somewhere you only gain 1/5 of what yoursub job gains. stats, hp /mp whatever... so.. it doesn't really matter Tooo much.. it's more of their job abilites and useful spells we're going after.

Of course... 58whm/20blm would surely be bad if arguement for that you only need the blm lvl 20 conserve mp heheheh 8 lvls of BLM will help a lot even if not for the spells..
